OK, I realize it rhymes, but wow is that the worst nickname ever.

The Red Wings were a loose bunch Wednesday after practice, weighing in on Tomas Holmstrom's new nicknames for the dynamic scoring duo of Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk - "Pasha and Sasha."

"I don't know if it's a good nickname or not," laughed Zetterberg, who's Sasha to Datsyuk's Pasha.

"That's cute, for sure," said Draper, who had previously nicknamed them the "Euro Twins."

Article.

Sasha = Alexander.

It is Russian. It's like John = Johnny or whatever.

Stupid.

your exacly right, Alexander Ovechkin is Sasha, Pavel is Pasha, Maria Sharapova is Masha. and Zetterberg is Z, Hank, or Zman

I'm guessing Homer was taking a friendly swipe at Z. Sasha = Alexander, but it also = Alexandra, a girl's name.

Anyway, my favorite quote from the article:

When asked what it would take for Colorado to get back into the series, Joe Sakic simply answered, "A win."

it's just cuz it rhymes thats all people, there is nothing behind the name. it was just a joke.

y'all are nuts

Wow, finally someone with some common sense. Its freaking Holmer, all he does is make jokes!

I really don't think he was sitting there going thinking "calling Z 'Shasha' would REALLY be a great nickname."

if they wanted to go with the whole sha thing, should have said Henriasha or Henrusha actually... and Pasha.

Sasha is pretty mesculine actually in the russian language, but its a unisex name although there are more guys name Alexender = Sasha versus Alexendra = Sasha in Russia... too funny lol prolly some inside joke going on...
