chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/1579...ew-Round-3.html Last round, Colorado had the edge in forwards and goalies. Same edge to Dallas this round. They had Colorado winning in 7, this round Dallas winning in 6 or 7. My favorite line: So despite regular season results. Despite Osgood having a better GAA and SV% than Turco. Despite Wings having more goals in less games --> Dallas should have a pretty easy time with them. Wait a minute..They give Dallas the edge over the WIngs in the category of forwards!? Ribero, Morrow and Madano over Zetterberg Datsyuk and Franzen. They have got to be on crack? I got halfway through the article and realized that they don't have a clue. Yea, I believed it now that you said they picked the Avs in 7. we all know how that worked out. Dallas better forwards?? WTF? just WTF?

To be fair you left out Brad Richards, who was creating chances all night last night, Jere Lethtinen who more than a capable second liner with defense awareness and Hagman, who has come out of nowhere to be a legit scoring threat. I agree with you however that the wings have far more talent, as their top 3 forwards, Richards, Ribero, Morrow, cannot hang with our top 3 currently and our top 3 will ABUSE THEIR DEFENSE, but as for overall depth i call the offense a toss. Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 I like our chances against Dallas simply because they try to play the same game we do - and it's impossible to beat us at that game. That said, they're far deeper and healthier than the Avs(who also tried to play that game...miserably). They have 3 solid scoring lines centered by studs like Modano, Richards and Ribiero. Morrow and Lehtinen are the gunners, and they've got a whole bunch of Finnish players rounding out all those lines. The Stars are to Finland as we are to Sweden. Those guys can skate. Zubov is back and playing well. They're not too imposing beyond him, though, no matter how well Robidas has played. This will be exploited against our puck movers. Turco is a mental caca. He wont be anymore imposing than Dan Ellis was.

WHAT A BUNCH OF TERDBURGLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /end extreme sarcastic obnoxious overreaction Nothing new or anything to get worked up about, these chaps are certainly entitled to their opinion and people have definitely gone against the Wings before. Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted May 6, 2008 Careful what you wish for. Edmonton was supposed to play the same game as the Wings in 2006 and look what happened........ No they didn't. Edmentons game plan was speed, grit and crash and bang style of play coupled with hot goaltending. Our we a crash and bang team?

If you want to grasp at straws, fine. Point is nobody thought they were going to be able to play a trap game either against the Wings, and they did.
swedishseven 9 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 dallas seemed to use a center ice shutdown style with maybe a touch of a left hand trap, that last game it wasnt working for them, and i dont think it will work against the wings...
RedFX 48 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 I really haven't been all that impressed with Dallas over the past couple of games (besides Turco). They've seemed to turn off that switch alot during that series; playing sloppy, lacking any intensity, bad turnovers, etc. Against a high puck-possesion team like Detroit, that could come back to bite them. Happy Pancake 6 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 Who did Melrose pick to win? He was so sure the Avs were going to pull the upset last round, I hope he picks Dallas.
Guest nutz2u Report post Posted May 6, 2008 Guess they choose to ignore Turncolors record vs Wings. Get ready Holmqvist cuz by thursday Turncolors will be a soprano thinkin bout facing the Wings. 4 nights without sleep to avoid nightmares is a loooong time : )
interminded 1 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 How can Turco have an advantage over Osgood ? Yes, he's good. Yes, he made 61 saves. So ? that gives him an advantage over a goalie who is 6-0 with .937 save percentage and playoff-best 1.52 ? Right.........

Marty has a 1.73GAA and a .929SV% having played 6 more games against 2 better opponents. Turco is also a better goalie than Osgood, period. The only 'advantage' Detroit has in goal is the psychological factor, which may not even play a part in this series.

Texas Wingnut 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 If these "experts" are so good at picking series winners why are they wrong so many times??? How can they measure heart & chemistry. It certainly isn't in the X-factor. Ask the Rangers about putting together lots of talent.
Seraph 240 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 What's funny is once the Wings win, the analysts are all for talking about how "unstoppable" this team is during the pregame of the finals. Then suddenly they can talk about Datsyuk's uncanny skills and how Osgood has been on fire. They're just blind to it until then. I just hope Dallas is ready for a tough series. Opie 308 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 If you guys are tired of the media picking the stars, go to Yahoo. Almost every Hockey expert on Yahoo is picking the Wings to win the whole thing. The redundant answer they keep giving is: The Wings are the most Skilled team in the league and skill will beat __________ A. Pit's Youth/skill B. Dal's hot goalie/ style of play C. Phi's Toughness and grit/skill Pretty much they are saying that there is no way any one can stop the Wings amount of skill. One guy went on to say that if Det wanted to be cruel to Col they would have split the first line up and rolled 4 lines of skill that would have been a meaner way to beat up Col. On Around the Horn yesterday both Woody Paige and Tim Cowlishaw picked Det to go all the way, TC didn't pick CF winners from either conference, just saying that Detroit's skill would over take the other teams strengths

Inultus 12 Report post Posted May 6, 2008 The lead in to your comment was Greeny talking about how the NHL needs to market superstars and the elite teams while Golic said the NHL needs to hardcore market a face of the NHL, which he mentioned is Crosby to the American public. Which lead to his statement that the BEST thing for the NHL is to have a Penguins and Red Wing finals to showcase the face of the game and the elite team. Yeah, I definitely agree that a Crosby/Wings series would be the best thing to get people to watch a little hockey. Not to derail the thread, but I can't help but comment on your sig. I lived next door to Sigma Chi in East Lansing for 5 years and they were the biggest bunch of assholes I've ever met. Just a few examples: *During rush week they would show porn on a projection in their front yard. *They had to go dry because they had too many violations *They would gang up on people at their parties, I had to clean up more than one bloody dude who happened to hit on one of "their" girls and got a bloody nose as a result *They shot out the windows to our cars (with a BB gun) during 2 of their parties *When I toured the place, it was about the filthiest thing I've ever seen Now no offense to you personally, but IMO frats are for ******* who are totally insecure with themselves. MEN do not join frats. BOYS do. Feel free to disagree.
