Mitch Albom

So I just got done substitute teaching today, and I got home and opened up the free press. On the front page, Mitch is attempting to write up the game and give us his slant on the game. Nothing but high marks for the Wings, but then he starts a criticism of the Detroit Fan Base. Here's the article: Mitch Albom

This article bugs me for a couple of reasons. One- it seems kind of lazy. He wrote a paragraph on the game, and then multiple about empty seats. It feels like he didn't want to analyze the game too much. Two- Who is he to tell Detroiters to spend their money? Seeing as how he's worth at least 6 Million, I don't think he really understands what most people are going through right now. Gas is almost $4 a gallon, people are losing their jobs, they can't find new jobs, losing their homes and Mitch chastizes Detroiters who can't shell out the $75 for one standing room ticket. I am a die hard, but what am I going to do, go to the game or buy groceries? Go to the game or pay my bills? I took offense to the article, I think Mitch has really lost touch with the struggles of Detroiters. Get off the pedestal and write up the game Mr. Albom.

Anyone know how to get in contact with him? If he will pay for my ticket and gas to drive across the state, I'll GLADLY go everyone remaining home game. Heck, I'll even buy him a beer when I go... what a frickin ******

so, you don't think he will be one of the five people you will meet in Heaven? ;)

I used to not mind him... but him falling into the Fan attendance bashing turned me right off of him....

Hey, Mitch! you got a cool $215 you can give to me for a ticket? I will show up! BTW THOSE are the seats that aren't being filled the $75 (lowest you can possibly get) are, can you believe it, gone

He's calling out the wrong people.

I guarantee he has season tickets (whether from himself, but probably from the free press)... how many games is he at?

It's the season ticket holders (not all of them, but there are about 16,000 of them) who are the ones not bothering to come to the games (unless they have a client to impress) or spend all their time in the Legends Club. It's people like him that he needs to be "calling out".

That game was a sellout -- don't they announce that at the beginning of games (was he even there?)?

I'll go if he buys me tickets to the games. And round trip plane tickets. Tool.

Yea If gas wanst 4 a gallon, Then i might consider going to a game. Thats fifty dollars in gas (for me) plus parking, food (20 dollars for a medium pizza!!) on top of the tickets being bought is a pretty expensive night.

solution is simple..

just sell more tickets if after 10 minutes in the 1st period seats are still empty...

with a slight discount...

plane companies doe oversell for years, why not the red wings organization??

everybody would be happy..

Good luck hearing back from him...he's notorious for not responding to ANY requests, whether they be from people in media and PR or just regular joes. I guess he's just too good for us.

He's a pretty good writer. I really liked him at one time. But he has absolutely zero room to talk about poor attendance. If he wrote more about hockey and the Red Wings, then OK. But he's written how many articles this year prior to post-season? Probably one. He should go back to writing sentimental, nostalgic books or chatting away on the four-letter network if this is the best you can muster now. I bet he only raised a stink about the attendance as a way to increase hits on the Freep's website and sell more newspapers. There's a name for that - yellow journalism.

Actually, emailing him telling him off is most likely a waste of time.

Guys like this have people who read the emails first and get rid of ones that are stupid and pointless.

My email response to Mitch, entitle Re: ticket request

Hey Mitch, read your latest article on how the fans should be filling up the Joe and I have to say, I agree.

I want to do my part, so I'm hoping you can send me some money so I can buy some tickets of my own. $300 should cover two tickets.. afterall the "cheap seats" which run about $75 per are already sold out.

Maybe you should be calling out the businessmen and season ticket holders that stay home on game night because they couldn't find a client to impress

with their 5th row seats.

Eagerly awaiting your reply (and money), Drew

Empty Seats At JLA?

Dear Mitch,

I also hate to see all those wasted seats in JLA! Oh..if only I hadn't lost my job and I still have to pay all those pesky bills. And groceries? Well mostly I can purchase them every other week, so please don't feel too sorry for me. I have lost a few pounds but you know how fat us Michiganders are...we can stand to lose a few here and there!

I do, however, have one request. I love the Red Wings and have for many, many years and I so would love to attend one of the playoffs games where there are so many empty seats. You see, due to the economy and the rising price of gas *you know I have to find a job sometime* I had to go to basic cable and I can't even watch a game on TV anymore. So here's my request...please go to your petty cash drawer and pull me out some money so I can sit my skinny butt in one of those seats at the JLA!

Hugs and Kisses,

A Broke Red Wings Fan

You know, I so sick and damn tired of these millionaires ripping on Detroit fans. It is obvious that they have no clue what a majority of the Detroiters are going throught. I for one had to move from Michigan because of the economy! The Wings games are expensive and I think a majority of people would rather watch them at home or at a local pub! spend 20 dollars or $100. I hate seeing empty seats as well, but that is the reality of it! Same on you Mitch the *****!!

I understand everyone's issues with this article, but I do like the point that he made that the Lions games are always packed, why can't the wings games be? After it is all over with, you have to buy more beer to get through a Lions loss than a red wings win, so the price probalby comes out to be about equal even if the Lions' tickets are less expensive.
