SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Absolutely not. Hasek is the wild card again if he'll come back next year, but if he's not back, there is absolutely no reason to not go with Osgood and Howard.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 (edited) There was actually speculation that Stefan Liv would be brought back into the organization; it never got past anything more than a rumor, though. The time for Howard is now, and if Holland brings in another dinosaur to further stunt his development, that'll be nothing but pure stupidity. If it was a star goaltender, that'd be one thing, but Kolzig does not fit that bill. Kolzig was a good goalie... about 5 years ago. He's nothing beyond a backup now, which isn't at all what the Wings need. Besides that, he's proven this year that he doesn't like being a backup (he'll have to get used to it, but something tells me he probably won't). Do we really need a possible cancer in the room? I say no. It should either be Howard or Larsson; not more old guys who haven't been the dominant goalies they once were in over a decade. shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 I would not be interested in sigining him. He best years are done and over with. He could be leader in the locker room but i don't think that we need that at this point. I hope that he lands with another team and gets a chance to play next year. Just hope he is not a Wing. jvxp 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 Saw this story on nhl.com I immediately though of Detroit. Hasek I think will finally be convinced its time to retire at the end of this Stanley Cup run, and Holland seems to like to sign guys short contracts. The question would be of Ollie the Goalie would do as well as Hasek did sharing goalie duties -- I don't see Ozzie leaving any time soon ... I hope not we don't need him. Jimmy Howard is ready for the NHL and he should be up with the team next season.
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 Kolzig will end up in either Ottawa or Tampa Bay. Take it to the bank.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 It'll be Osgood who has the No. 1 spot next season. Unless, of course, the Wings conjure up an amazing trade. Larsson and Howard will battle it out for the No. 2 spot and maybe 20-30 starts. Right now I don't really care who gets the starts as long as the one who gets the chance is good enough... puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 Kolzig will end up in either Ottawa or Tampa Bay. Take it to the bank. agreed. I'd say Ottawa, and he'll do well there (they are done with Emery). I expect to see Ozzie and Howard in the Fall.

Casey 145 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 Not a chance. I'd pursue Ryan Miller from the Sabres- he's indicated interest in playing for the Wings. That would be an awesome combo, and lock up the goalie situation for at least 5 years.

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 My guess is either Miller or Kolzig wouldn't last more than 2 years here... paying top dollar to not get a cup out of them would be silly and so un-red wings like!
