djup 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Do you think that the Wings should move any players during the off-season? I think we can afford to lose a couple players to make room for some young Griffins talent. Players that should retire: Chelios Hasek Drake Players that should be moved: Samuelsson (hasn't performed up to par IMO this season) Kopecky (has potential, but isn't developing fast enough) Lilja (the Wings weakest defenseman, and we need room for new players) Players that should be brought up: Meech (maybe could be put on forward} Ericsson (to replace Lilja) and Leino will also be a good forward replacement This is how I envision the lineup for next year Datsyuk | Zetterberg | Holmstrom Franzen | Filppula | Cleary Leino | Draper | Hudler Maltby | Helm | McCarty Lidstrom | Rafalski Stuart | Kronwall Ericsson | Lebda Osgood Howard (or that Swedish goalie we are planning signing) Scratches: Downey Meech I bet a lot of teams wish they had problems with their team being TOO deep. There are too many good players on the Wings....someone take some! SHARE THE TALENT! Edited May 14, 2008 by djup

Real1 2 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Kopecky (has potential, but isn't developing fast enough) I gotta disagree. He was great, then effed up his knee.
djup 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Both goalies, it's time for a new era in between the pipes....... I don't think we would have resigned Osgood if we were planning on moving him.... I would rather have Osgood in net that trust a new goalie right away though. Keep Osgood for now, and let Jimmy get some backup time. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) As well as this team is playing right now, I view a lot of these guys as expendable. I like Chelly's veteran presence and snarl on the blue line. But Drake, Maltby, Hudler, Sammy, Kopecky, Lebda, Meech, Lilja -- I'm not too attached to them right now. At the very least, we know Hasek will be gone. Edited May 14, 2008 by Dabura

djup 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 I doubt Leino will make the team right off the bat... but what do I know? I just don't think the Wings would have signed him to a 1 year trial contract if we weren't planning on using him in the NHL. Maybe if we signed him to like a 2-year contract he would play in the AHL. Does anyone know if he has a 2-way contract?
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 I would be up for moving Sammuelson and either Hudler OR Filpulla, and use them along with Lebda and Lilja to pick up two more proven forwards, then fill the last two defensive spots with Meech and Quincy. We're a pretty solid team as is, though, and if we keep cheating the salary cap/parity system, Bettman is going to issue some more harsh rules
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Hmm i really wanna see abdelkader play so ima go with Datsyuk | Zetterberg | Holmstrom Cleary/Leino | Franzen | Sammy Leino/cleary | Fillpulla | Hudler Abdelkabder| Draper | Helm Scratches: Maltby. I like this lineup cause it gives us 3 very good scoring linesand grit. Only problem is that maltby sits... Lidstrom | Rafalski Stuart | Kronwall Ericsson | Quincy Osgood Howard Hmmm.... It seems as if we have one to many forwards, and id really like to sign a ufa, possibly Jagr if cheap ( for their standards). I wonder what we could get for Fillpulla, a blue chip blue line prospect and a 1st. Probably a top line forward, or maybe thomas kaberle?
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Get rid of Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom. That would clear up a huge amount of cap space to pursue great free agents sometime in the future during our era of rebuilding.

skacore 2 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 I hope Chelios, Drake, and Hasek retire. I would want to move Samuelsson, Kopecky, Lilja, and one of Meech or Lebda. Datsyuk Zetterberg Holmstrom Hudler Filppula Franzen Abdelkader Draper Cleary Maltby Helm Downey McCarty Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Stuart (or Vandermeer) Ericsson Quincey one of Meech or Lebda, can rotate with Quincey Osgood Howard
Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 What's with everyone wanting Drake to go? He has been really good in the post-season this year and would love to see him around next year. I wouldn't mind seeing Chelios and Hasek retire though
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Really, in the face of things, would anyone actually want to sign Stuart over another defenseman? He hasn't exaclty been amazing.

Ummm, someone else correct me if I'm wrong but we could only sign him to a one year entry-level contract. Just like how Brunnstrom could've only been signed for one year. Its in the CBA. This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Really, in the face of things, would anyone actually want to sign Stuart over another defenseman? He hasn't exaclty been amazing. Him and Kronner have been the big bodies we've been missing in the past. Now, if he wanted to stay, would I take him? Why the hell not? Sure he hasn't been "amazing" but he's not a Brian Campbell type of player. He is very solid defensively and is a big body. To answer your question, yes! If he wants to stay, we should absolutely sign him. If he decides to go then we can hopefully sign another big defenseman

redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Here's something people might not like: Keep Stuart and Filppula, then make NO trades or free agent signings. That's right, not ONE. No major signing, no minor signing, NO ONE! Keep all our focus and cap space in keeping the players we have, like Stuart, Franzen, Zetterberg, and Filppula. Assuming Hasek, Chelios, Drake retire, let Lilja, Downey walk. Datsyuk Zetterberg Holmstrom Samuelsson Franzen Filppula Cleary Draper Maltby Leino Helm Hudler McCarty Kopecky Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Stuart Ericcson Meech/Lebda Osgood Howard move Qunicey out of necessity. Plus I haven't really seen him make any huge hits. Granted he does have a pretty hard shot. Maybe I'm just being too picky.

Heinrich 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 1st of all...I really don't want Kopecky to go away. In the season start I thought he is just too weak and slow..but at the end I enjoyed the way he played. We should keep him I belive. Players that I wouldn't miss are Chelios, Hasek,Lilija and Lebda...and maybe Sammy also. I really would like Chelios to go...I don't know... but his game performances seemed somehow weird to me. And I think he is not one of the underpayed players so....... He just doesn't fix to my idea of Red Wings roster
South Dakota wings fan 7 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 I gotta disagree. He was great, then effed up his knee. I have to agree that Kopecky was playing very well until he got low-jacked against Columbus. I thought you could really notice his absence at the beginning of the Nashville series before Helm came into the lineup.
