General manager Ken Holland said this morning that Johan Franzen has been cleared by doctors to work on his conditioning. Franzen missed Games 2 and 3 with headaches -- something that he had been playing with for at least a week.

Franzen is now allowed to work on the bicycle. Holland said that Franzen won't be skating on his own until Friday at the earliest.

Good stuff. This rainy and cloudy day in metro Detroit just got a little brighter.

It'll be even brighter tonight at about 10:30. It's a great feeling knowing we could make our 5th trip to the finals since 1995. With all the games and rounds in the playoffs, I think that's a great accomplishment. :beerbuddy: Here's to a possible 4th Stanley Cup.

Great news about the Mule. I heard today, if both Conference Finals are sweeps, the Cup Final will probably start a week tomorrow, so Mule and everyone else have a good week to heal up.

Who goes down when The mule comes back?

Malts or Darren?

I say Darren.. but whats your thoughts?

I'd maybe switch Malts and DMac, get them both involved in the finals. I'd hate to see one sit the entire time.

So I really really hope that:

A) the Wings wrap it up tonight in Dallas with another sweep :D

B) the Flyers steal at least one game to give Franzen a little more time to recover- cuz it doesn't sound like he is ready for action just yet.

The PIT/PHI series has nothing to do with the start date of the SCF's. The dates have already been established whether the CF's finish tomorrow or both of them in Game 7's.

How long do you think it takes a professional athlete to get back in shape after doing no exercises of any kind for about a week or however long it's been?

Logically, would he be back in time and in good form for the Finals next Thursday or Friday?

Not totally true. According to mlive if they both sweep the finals start Tuesday, but thats the day game 6 for the pens/flyers is scheduled.

Do you have a link to that article on mlive? The other day the league said they had days already scheduled due to other events that are scheduled at the 4 different barns.

Yup I do. Maybe it was the Dallas and Philly locations that had the schedule issues.

If it were to be done tomorrow night, I think it would be totally dumb for the NHL to wait until the 24th or 27th, thats the estimated start date based on june 9th being the last possible game for the finals. That would be 8-12 days with no hockey on. The NBA is that stupid, in 04 the pistons played game 1 of a series on Sunday I think and game 2 was on Friday, and I know the palace didn't have stuff scheduled for all 4 of those days. If I'm the NHL you get it started and the sooner you do you don't have to compete with the NBA finals.

Joe Louis has nothing scheduled until June 10th.

Also, if the Wings and Pittsburgh sweep their series, the Stanley Cup finals would start on Tuesday in Detroit, with Game 2 on Thursday, followed by Games 3 and 4 Saturday, May 24 and Tuesday, May 27, in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, perhaps. However, I do remember them saying something about issues with PIT but not so much with DET. That being said, I would assume they've figured out a schedule so whether its a sweep or a 7 game series that it can work within Mellon Arena's schedule.
