lfd250 1 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Way ahead of you. Already been thinking about it. Do I think it's there yes. But then again they've only lost two games is it? hmmmm Poster Boy for the NHL in the cup finals, will be interesting
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 I didn't expect to see this thread until/if the Wings had lost a couple games. But no, there's no fix. There's relatively little to gain and way too much to lose by fixing games.
fastballspecial 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) It's definitely in the back of my mind. Unfortunately *we'll all probably be looking at it from a subjective point of view, considering we are fans of the Winged Wheel. *didn't mean to group everyone together, but I think you get the point. Tiribulus 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 *shakes head* You guys arent THAT nervous...are you? Of course. If you're not nervous you don't love your team. Fix is too strong a word and like I've said, I am not saying anything is going on. I've just never seen so many faces up one ass and it is possible to tilt the ice with officiating. If we lose fair and square then we do as bad as that would suck. I'd just hate to think that the league would in any way help either team over the other no matter how subtly. That said I want a 4 game massacre. I've never disliked Crosby and have never hated the Penguins, but the sychophantic swooning is getting me there. I want to spank these guys raw in front of the whole hockey world. Won't happen, but I can fantasize.
WisconsinWingNut 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 I was thinking more like Area 87. Do you mean Area 51? Hangar 18? I'm so nervous I don't evne know what I'm talking about...
shoe 165 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Everyone loves to win BUT living in Toronto Ive also learned people love to hate to loose as well. Maybe the Sidney Crosby story Betman wants to write might go from once upon a time to: was beaten by a great red army of sweedish elite troops, so he vowed to improve his game after a short offseason learning from the wise old Mario... Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 Of course it's going to happen. That said, pointing the finger solely at Bettman is a wee bit misguided; the head coaches and general managers are the ones who historically do most of the talking to officials. Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Do you mean Area 51? Hangar 18? Isn't that where they kept Datsyuk in stasis for about 40-50 years?

fastballspecial 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 no longer is it in the back of my mind. that call on Holmstrom was absolutely ridiculous.
Yzerfan75 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I have absolutely no trust in Gary Bettman whatsoever when it comes to him and his boyfriend, Crosby. Something really smells that they didn't even review that first goal... but then again, it's happened to Homer many times before...
Ladsud2002 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 (edited) It was nice spending the whole first period in the box, waving a goal off and they call a penalty on Lidstrom of all people. Gimme a break. Good thing were a better team. Edited May 25, 2008 by Ladsud2002
MabusIncarnate 5,359 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 You lost me at the "white dog says" paragraph and beyond. Crosby hasn't earned himself to be "the face of the NHL" yet IMO, give him a few years of experience and growing up, live up to the hype, then maybe. He's good, but he isn't a leap above all of the players in hockey, he wouldn't make my top 5 list of best players in hockey right now.
Yzerfan75 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 You know, I gotta wonder just a little bit more about this. This morning I'm patrolling the web and hit the NHL website. The "frozen moment" is Crosby laying into Stuart. Which sort seemed strange to me... considering that Kronner had many more hits and, well, there were four goals (none my Crosby) that might have been nice to show as the "frozen moment." So then I look at the stats on the bottom of the start page (or flash page? I'm not technically inclined). I notice that Fleury is still ahead in the Wins category. Seems odd... I swear some guy name Osgood won one more game than him last night. But again, no big deal... maybe they just haven't updated the site yet. It happens. Then I look at the three stars of the game and notice that this Osgood guy was (apparently reluctantly by the NHL) awarded the Second Star. As I'm reading I notice the cute little dig of "He wasn't severely tested in the last two periods, but..." I mean, seriously. Would they be so quick to add a disclaimer to Crosby like "he wasn't severely equipped to make a single point despite all the hype" or how about "despite being unable to walk onto the ice without embarrassing himself and the entire Penguins lineup, Fleury..." I don't know. I'm overanalyzing (I know) but I'm getting real sick of this crap really fast.

And I do remember Sid being knocked down a few times during the game. And yeah also no goals were shown. But I'm not surprised because Crosby is in more frozen moments than anyone. But the reason Ozzie doesn't have more wins is because yes we won 13 games, but 2 of those wins go to Dom. So Ozzie really only won 11 and MAC won all 12 for his team. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 If anything I think Ovechkin has earned the right to be the poster child of the NHL. And geez, do you think Holmstrom would surpass Gretzky's record for all those goals he's had waived off over the years?

Tiribulus 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2008 I couldn't get here much last night. It happened just as I'd hoped though. The win was overwhelming enough that no questions could be raised about it. Crosby looked like a whipped puppy in the post game. I would think a shot of him being laid out by Zetterberg would better reflect the flavor of the game for the frozen moment. There is not any doubt in my mind who the league and the media want to win. My only question with this thread was would they tug a few strings to aid that result.
