 Does it really matter? Roberts vs. Datsyuk in a fight speaks for itself. Anyway you slice it Roberts comes out looking like the cheap ***** he is. From what i could see, you got both ends of the spectrum, it's somewhere in the middle. Dats popped him a few times, while both were on their feet, Roberts fell down "fight" over. So let me guess, Dats isn't "man enough" for you cause he didn't take off the gloves and helmet at center ice and square off with Roberts huh? Dats was defending his teammates and himself on more than one occasion. As a wings fan that's what would/does impress me, not so much of an "ass kicking" was handed out.

Of course it matters. Pavel squaring up with a bigger, stronger man and sending a message would be truly noteworthy. Punching a guy while he's being interfered with by an official, well, that's not quite as impressive.

Again, I still haven't seen this yet, so I have no opinion of it...did Pavel's punch really send Roberts to the ice? That's awesome. Being as the Wings aren't hurting for scoring, I hope that if Roberts gets out of hand in one of the remaining games, Pavel drops his gloves and takes it to him.

He was about too but the zebras jumped in before the punches got thrown.

From the looks of that picture, no one could have jumped in before he could deck Malkin with one solid punch.

I'm disappointed now in Franzen after seeing that picture.

Dats drilled Roberts and Roberts fell down and went "BOOM". I couldn't believe Dats threw that punch. Of all people to knock down Gary Roberts with a punch, Pavel Datsyuk? Wow! WWGRD? Get knocked on his butt!

we've seen this before, Larionov vs. forsberg, how sweet it is!

of course Roberts is much tougher than forsberg and this was the finals but that's the on ly thing that I can remember comes close.

wow, I'm amazed at some of the comments I'm reading. what does it matter? He's a 3 time LB finalist, do you really expect his to start throwing haymakers at all? I didn't see Zetterberg doing much. Is it because he's Russian?

He's added muscle to his frame, increased his physicality, was our hit leader in game 1, now he's defending his teammates when for so long we've been pushed around in the PO's. And some people are going to sit here and microanylise and ***** because of where and when the linesman may or may not have got involved. Just be glad he's doing something, before he was too soft and didn't score enough (on a RW team that didn't produce much offensively during those years in the PO's anyway) now he's not impressive b/c of when a lineman may have gotten involved or because Roberts may have fallen to the ice b/c he tripped instead of b/c of the punch.

geesh, give it a rest and just be thankful he's on our team.

Yahoo's game recap has talbot getting a misconduct at the end of the game 20:00 minutes in the third period...

Anyone catch what he did?

I think he was trying to start sh*t and the refs grabbed hold of him and got him off the ice before he did any damage. Never saw him actually do anything, just the refs hauling him off.

Very well said, I may have been wrong but I read the post your refering to as belittling what was done, or it meaning next to nothing if he didn't square up and drop em like he's Grimson or something. He's improved and increased his game steadly (along with alot of guys, Z, Franzen, Hudler, Kronwall, ect.) especally since the lockout for Dats imparticular. I'll spare those that hate reading it and consider it overreacting and quick to always jump to a players defense on these boards, but the guys shot down a whole lot of doubt, misconceptions, sterotypes, and critisim over not only play but contract where he'll prove to be a bargin if not already. I hope he'll serve as yet another reminder (as there's been pleanty, very apperant throughout Red Wings history alone) of just how foolish the belief that these "soft euro's" don't have the heart of their N.A. counterparts. Sure he's Russian, paid fat, skilled but he's proving to be a Red Wing first and jumping to the defense of teammates and himself is just another way he's proving it, no matter the outcome or how it went down.

you interpreted it correctly. There were some people/someone who said they'd have more respect if it was at center ice. Like you said, he's no Grimson.

I think more than a few on this board have taken the Datsyuk a little too far and have exaggerated what really happened. To be clear, unless someone has other video that I haven't seen, Datsyuk and Roberts were in a scrum and the cameras were all over the place, when it came back near those two, from what I could see, Datsyuk threw a couple punches at the same time a linesman was basically pushing Roberts away.

The awesome part about it is simply that Datsyuk is there and being physical, not backing down, sticking up for teammates. In the past, he was basically eliminated during the playoffs because he was not able to keep up with the physical game.

So, let's be real here, Roberts would destroy Datsyuk if they actually fought, Datsyuk did not knock Roberts down with a punch, etc. Even those exaggerating on what happen don't believe this (I would think not anyway), I just think everyone is getting excited about his increased physical play, his desire to win, etc.

I jumped up yelling and screaming at the TV when I noticed that it was Pavel throwing punches during the scuffle.....

I am happy to see him sticking up for his teammates and we saw it twice last night, once after Zetterberg was run into the boards after the whistle and toward the end of the game with Roberts....I have heard people rave about Roberts for his toughness, but going after a guy like Pavel doesn't earn you toughness points in my book....

Go Pav! Go Wings!

Also that picture of Franzen about to bring the pain on Malkin is great!!

The fact that he stood up for his teammate is pretty impressive, considering the "soft" comments he's been stuck with over the years. He's stepping up and proving he's no shrinking violet. I say Bravo!

I didn't happen to notice/recognize it live, but during this they are playing "Livin' On A Prayer" over the PA.

"Whoa, we're halfway there"

Well played, rink music guy, well played.

Gotta be honest. ...and I've watched this video several times... both CBC and Versus feeds.

It looks as if Datsyuk goes after Roberts to pull him off the scrum . Roberts complies with the first blow. Datsyuk replies with a couple of his own. Not saying it's any sort of KO blow or anything. ...but for Datsyuk to stand up. Kudos in my book.

You're right, I think people were excited to see Datsyuk stepping up like that, and maybe making a little more out of it than it was. I also agree that the cameras were all over, we don't really get a good look at what happened. While I agree that the two punches Datsyuk threw at the end were when the refs were trying to push Roberts away, the ref was already in there before Roberts lands his first punch, he had his arm between them and was holding on to the back of Datsyuks jersey trying to pull him back. It doesn't really make much of a difference except for that on the Pen's board they are trying to say that

Datsyuk is a pu*sy because he waited to throw his punch until the refs had Roberts tied up. I also think Datsyuk landed another punch earlier in the scrum that most people didn't notice, it pushed Roberts over the top of Malkin and Franzen and then Datsyuk tries to pull him off of them and that is when Roberts grabs him and hits him. This is a really bad picture I took off my dvd.
