is a complete badass.

the two puppets on versus trying to take something positive out of this game for the penguins and messier is just like "no, detroit was better in every aspect". He couldn't find anything to say about pittsburgh except it's gonna be tough and the look on his face said "it's over". He is so cool haha.

I also would like to add that they think the scrum at the end is going to help pits? Datsyuk nailing roberts in the head repeatedly and orpick(sp?) having blood all over his jersey, yahhh that's a plus for the penguins for sure.

and WHAT THE f*** is with Mule getting punched in the head so much? If a guy had a concussion and people purposely punch him in the head, I look at that as intent to injure, though it obviously wouldn't be looked at as that by the league but that's surely what it is.

I noticed the same thing. It was awesome watching the Mezz totally giving all credit to the Wings.

Then again, I bet u that the commentators are told by the production team to NEVER seem like they're favoring one team. I would think they pretty much HAVE to give (fake) credit to the Pens......

Messier is truly the man!!

I'm glad that he has the balls to call it like he sees it. Sometimes i feel like those guys are told by the NHL not to give any credit to the Wings. They always bash them and say they don't have a chance.

At least Mark speaks the truth.

Yea, seriously, what the f*** is up with that. They just kept punching him in the head every chance they got. Bad form.

That was a classic statement. Messier was "umm no." Believe me I am going to listen to what Messier says before I listen to Brian Eng blah blah blahm, and Keith "the windbag" Jones!

I like Jones & Engblom enough, but yeah -- it's a case of Messier not being a seasoned broadcaster (I know he did NBC for awhile, but yeah) and telling it like it is, not trying to spin things a little to keep viewers invested in the series.

Guys, I wouldn't be too hard on Jones and Engblom. What do you expect them to say? "Don't even watch games 3 & 4, Detroit has this one in a cake walk." They have to think about ratings along side of giving a commentary.

Messier's a brave one, he might get fined by the league for saying something positive about the Red Wings.

Luv ya Mark, way to tell it like it is.

I like Messier i do... but does this guy come off as a glory hog to anybody else? For his retirement he got to skate around with the stanley cup. He has the stanley cup in comercials. He is constantly being touted as the best captain ever. I'm just sick of this guy i dunno.. plus he hung around the NHL about 7 years too long... Oh and did i hear there making a new NHL award named after him for being a leader or something?

This guy could not even tie Yzerman's skates let alone be a better Captain then Stevie.

Great point. They have to keep interest in the series as high as possible. So they're not sucking Detroit off - who cares?

That statement would make sense if VS was carrying any more hockey this season...

Everybody touts Crosby as the next Gretzky, well I can assure you that Messier would disagree with that statement, and he does have some insight in this subject.

Gretz was the best player in the world, and he didn't act like he was the center of attention. His teammates like Mess and Coffey, and Kurri, were more important to his success.

Crosby thinks he's the Center of attention because of all they hype. Well Sid, you have to live up to that hype. He's not leading by example. He's the Captain of his fricken team and he doesn't act like it. Looking at other captains around the league, that's what Crosby should try to lead like. Lidstrom, Yzerman, Sakic, Morrow in Dallas. Koivu in Montreal. Brind'Amour in Carolina. Those guys have battled through so much and know what it takes to succeed. I don't think the 20 year old phenom who has had the world handed to him embodies or understands what a captain truly means. I don't think that most players who have been in the league for a few years would seriously feel comfortable to have this unproven "kid" as the one who are being led by.

You're the one your teammates look to when things are down, you're the one that should be the first there and last to leave, you're constantly communicating with your head coach, you're giving 110% each and every time you're out there.

Sid called a team meeting after game 1's loss. Apparently he's heard that other teams do that when things aren't going so well. Sid... You've got to be the example. Don't whine and cry about it, don't blame the refs, the fans, the other team, you're parents. Go and do something about it.

They still have to promote the game being professional broadcasters broadcasting a professional championship series regardless of the outcome. It'd be stupid for them to say, "Don't tune into the remaining games on NBC, just wait to tune into VS next year."
