Your most memorable 2008 Playoff moment?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

As a whole, the 2008 Playoffs were probably among the better ones in recent years. I still think that 2007 provided for more exciting matchups (Final Four in '07 was epic) but the result this year was obviously preferred.

So, after the dust has cleared, the Wings raise the Cup and the most exciting time of the year comes to an end, what moment from the 2008 PLayoffs will stick with you forever? In 2007, I would have to say it was the Niedermeyer goal in Game 5 against Detroit. Here's a few moments that define the 2008 Playoffs:

-The entire Montreal/Boston series. End to end action with plenty of intrigue and storylines. The near Bruins comeback provided for perhaps the most exciting first round matchup I've ever witnessed.

-Quadruple overtime between Dallas and San Jose in Game 6. So much was riding on this game, I couldn't imagine being a fan of either team during this one.

-Overtime winner by Franzen in Game 5 against Nashville.

-Avery's screen on Brodeur

-Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It will probably go down as one of the greatest Finals games of all time. A buzzkill for Wings fans but memorable no less.

non wings moments:

ovechkin's winner in game 1 vs the flyers...coming back from 2 goals down at home in the phone booth. That was CRAZY..

the crowd at the Bell Centre...

the ducks losing 2 in a row at home (bye bye bandwagon)

Was thinking back to the memorable moments, and when I got to the Franzen Game 5 winner against Nashville, that's the one that gave me the chills. That's the winner right there, other than actually hoisting the Cup.

That goal was what really launched the Cup run. Before that the Wings were muddling along. Afterwards the Wings never trailed and were never tied in a series except for 0-0.

For non-Wings moments....Malkin's 8 foot slapshot was the most memorable to me. Hell of an exclamation point.

Memorable might not be the right word, but the breakdown of Carey Price.

When the Habs traded Huet to the Caps the first thing I thought was: Dumbass move.. that's coming back to haunt them... Price is good, but way too young to carry a team throught the Stanley Cup playoffs.

I was right I guess..

Being able to attend Game 5 of the SCF. Even though the Wings lost, it was the best game I've ever been too. The environment, the fans, etc. Being a part of the Wings longest SCF game ever and the 5th longest SCF game ever is something I'll never forget.

Ovechkin scoring that game winning goal in game 1 and watching the home crowd go insane after he scored. It was amazing to watch on TV.

Watching the game 7s. The best one by far was the Calgary/San Jose series, but the Habs/Bruins was exciting as well.

I have to agree that game 5 of the Det/Pens series was awesome. Even though we didn't win, it was an insane game and I watched all of it.

Hudler's backhand goal in Game 4 was crazy! I didn't think he could elevate the puck on that backhand, but he did. Wow! What a goal.

Overall though, I enjoyed a lot of hockey series like I have in the previous few years. Now, with the Wings closing the book on another great season, I am happy but sad at the same time. I will miss hockey this summer. Training camps open in September, and thats 3 months away. By the time the puck drops for the season it will be close to 4 months. I may be a Wings fan, but I am a hockey fan as well.

I have many, I like Lids goal on ellis from the other side of the ice. That was great!

Mac's goal was emotional.

Franzens hat trips against the AVS. what a series he had.

Knocking out the Stars again.

And hopefully not having to here the name CROSBY again until next year :beerbuddy:

Well said. Baseball gets pretty dull in those dog days of summer.

has nothing to do with the actual games, but i was lucky enough to be in detroit visiting when the colorado and dallas series were going on. one day i wore my home jersey around town, and everybody stopped me on the street, in restaraunts, in parks, etc.... to talk about the wings. it's times like that when i really miss living in detroit, and it pretty much drove home the notion for me of moving back someday. i want my kids to grow up in that kind of environment. where people are just good to each other. where people are taught to tend to the needs of others before their own. detroit as a city, and michigan as a state....are hurting, but it is to this day, one of the nicest, classiest, most sincere areas i've ever been.

that said.....

-kronwall hits

-franzen's OT goal vs. preds

-sweeping colorado

-the 8-2 game 4

-owning turco

-fleury tripping during warmup in game one and being laughed at

-shutting out the pens through 2 games

-hudlers game winner in game 4

-living with the anguish that was game 5 (34 sec)

-the monster, clean hit on crosby

-fleury scoring on himself

-DARREN HELM

Nice idea for a thread...

-Lid's goal in round one game six.

-The few shutouts we had!

-FRANZEN SMASH!

-Forgetting a few days ago who we "played" for round two. I actually forgot since it wasn't really a battle. Franzen's hat trick, well the two. Losing count in game four thinking we had five goals when it was seven. The whole 8 to 2 thing. The day the Wings, Pistons, and Tigers all had amazing games on the same day... boy those were the days.

-Pav's hat trick!

-Okay, don't kill me but out of the whole entire playoffs, I missed one game. Game four of the finals. I was at a Tom Petty Concert (please don't hate me for it) and I was nervous the whole time I was watching the game by looking across the Palace into someone suit before the concert started. I had to call and make sure we were the net on the left side since I couldn't make out who was who. The best part was when the whole place started a Red Wings chant before the concert started and after.

-Any awkward interviews from Ozzie!

-To see Osgood, my guy, who I cried when he left us in 2001, who everyone hated but I had way to much love for, basically kick ass. I'm so proud of him and that he finally is getting respect.

-Val's goal that reminded me of the one Franzen had on April 3rd. Pretty sweet.

-All the hard work that got all the records and "first." I can't even list them all but you know what I mean.

-All the adorable post-game junk! LOVE IT!

-All the festivities in downtown Royal Oak... man, that was great!

-The fact we won.

I'll think of more later. Yeah... we had hell of a season. Thank you all!

I loved the entire playoff run, but a few highlights are:

-Seeing some of our younger guys step up in the playoffs (Helm, Filpulla, Hudler)

-Watching Franzen continue to emerge

-Seeing Pav and Hank dominate

-Watching the Wings play physical (Pav punching Gary Roberts anyone?)

-Seeing Lidstrom hand the Cup to Drake first and seeing the excitement on his face.....that is what is great about the Stanley Cup playoffs and if more people were aware of how grueling the run can be and how hard it is to win the Cup then I think the sport would have more fans

The biggest highlight for me was that the Wings won the Cup and showed they could win games in any number of ways....

Go Wings!

One last highlight was seeing Gill and Holmstrom shake hands and give a little smile....that was great!

There are so many...

Kronwall's hits - I enjoy watching them again & again!

Filppula's goal last night - HUGE GOAL,gave me chills

Referee showing puck had crossed the line & Fleury had scored on himself

- SCGWG,enough said

Every save Ozzie made - He looked damn good EVERY game

That one hit Sarich made in a SJ-CGY series (which was a great series) - Monster hit

The image of gentlemen taking the Cup off it's container in Game #5 (therefore jinxing us) - I'll forgive them eventually.

And finally every moment that took place after the horn sounded in Pittsburgh. - If it makes a grown man cry,it must be memorable.

My son and I screamed and turned out heads away from the TV when they showed them prep'ing the Cup last night!!!

Mac's goal was an emotional moment for me. I think this stands out in my mind as the most memorable.

Helm's goal runs second. I think this kid is amazing. I hope he sticks around for a long time. I think he's going to be great.
