wingsownnhl43 14 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I have to admit, i still have man love for Shanny. He still is my favorite non Red Wing in the NHL. When he departed he said he felt he was more apart of the past than the future, which i understood and didnt hold against him, but i think you can make the same argument that Malts, Drapes, and Mac are more apart of the past but now they have another ring. This one had to be tough to watch for Shanny.

Redwingsfan18 1 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 You know he's happy for these guys, they're still his buds - but I'm sure he'd rather be a part of it then sitting at home watching.
Opie 308 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I think Shanny is in his NY apartment having a beer in honor of his former team and teammates, does he wish he was hoisting it, of course but I bet this a close second for him!
StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 I think he was happy for some guys, his departure was good move. I agree. His $4mil they would have paid him last year and probably this year would have held them back from moving forward with new guys or getting the guys they needed. I loved the guy and thank him for everything but I don't know if they would here with him. While I am sure he wishes he would be out there with the Cup he probably isn't kicking himself. He knew it was time to move on.
egroen 384 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 The parting of ways with Shanny was a mutually beneficial breakup. How about Schneider and Bertuzzi? Both offerend contracts from Detroit and jump ship to go to the Stanly Cup Champs - Result? They are out the first round; Detroit wins SCF. To Detroit: Hartigan To Anaheim: Schneider & Bertuzzi Winner: Detroit
chuklz 15 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Shanny is as classy an act as Stevie Y, he's happy for them and regrets nothing.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Sorry, but Shanny leaving was one of the things that symbolized the new direction the Wings were going. Had he stayed around, and the team continued to play the way they used to, the Wings probably wouldn't have won the Cup. Thanks for everything Shanny, but it worked out in the Wings favor that he left.
Viperar 16 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 shanny leaving was for the best, I still love the man. Schneids and Bert....whole nother story...sucks to be them

He knew it was time to move on. Absolutely. If Shanny stays another year or more, we probably wouldn't see Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen and Filppula as developed as they are now. Who knows...maybe Franzen or Filppula would have been the dreaded prospect that gets traded for help at the deadline, and we'd never get to see how great they are. You have to give him props for realizing that it was time to go rather than hanging on and possibly hurting the Wings. I still totally love Shanny, although he tested my affection when he started pulling the Avery type screen against Brodeur this year!
StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 shanny leaving was for the best, I still love the man. Schneids and Bert....whole nother story...sucks to be them Yeah sucks to be them but not to be us and the Wings. If both of them stayed we don't get Rafalski and maybe Franzen doesn't do what he did late in the year. I like Rafalski better than Schneider.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Naw he's not kickin' himself. He won 3 Cups w us and it was time for him to move on. He likes living in NY and playing for the Rangers. He was interviewed a few weeks ago and said he was watching the series from his apt. I'm sure Shanny is happy for his former teammates....

Probert 5 For Fighting 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 The difference between Malts/Drapes and Shanny is that Malts/Drapes could still skate and forecheck to Babcock's liking, and Shanny was lackadaiscal in almost every area of the game outside of the PP - when he didn't have to skate and could just set up shop by the circle. I'll never forget how dreadful he was against Edmonton. This coaching staff and management team deserves a ton of credit for enabling this diaspora of slow, plodding offense-only guys like Lang, Shanny, Shneider and Bert...in favor of the fresh and speedy young legs of Flip, Franzen, Helm, etc - and a far better true Dman in Rafalski than Shneids. They may not score as much, but they're certainly more effective on every shift.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 i think Shanny moving on was good for him AND for the Wings... tbh if he was playing for us this season i think he'd be playing in a Hudler role. Limited ice time and 2nd PP unit. His game just doesn't have that up and down drive that Babcock requires anymore...

He just didn't fit into what they were trying to do here anymore. And with a cap he wasn't worth $4mil they could spend elsewhere.
TheRedWingsWay 8 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 theres a big difference from winning no cups to 1 cup...not much of a difference from winning 3 cups to 4...if you get what I'm trying to say. He is happy for everyone...glad they won, but I doubt hes kicking himself.

bellarina 1 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Shanny is as classy an act as Stevie Y, he's happy for them and regrets nothing. I agree with you, Shanny left so that the Wings can go ahead and win another. He felt that he was only holding back Hank, Pav and others. There is definately no regret there. I hope that if Shanny scores in Detroit next season that they play the jig for him.
