Valtteri Filppula

I think this kid is so promising. He was very valuable this playoff run, and I think the best is yet to come. Kelly Hrudy mentioned this on hockey night in canada and i totaly agree.

I could see Val having around 25+ goals and 50+ points next season.

Does anyone else see this?

Filppula is awesome! He played through injury, did not practise for weeks and yet he was integral part of Red Wing's success. He is really great player. I do hope Kenny re-signs him very soon :)

without question. I also see franzen scoring around 30-35 goals and 25 assits next year and Hudler being a 25-30 man

Can we finally now say that we didn't need Hossa and that it was a great move by Ken to not give up Flip for him?

Uhh, yes, it is safe to say that Hossa would have been unnecessary. Although to add to that from this point on.... Having everyone signed to contract for next season but Filppula (who will sign). We have a decent amount of money under the cap and could definately find some creative ways to make this already amazing team even better! Brian Rolston perhaps?

He is an RFA this year if I'm not mistaken. Do you thing that someone will try to poach him from us? How much is too much to match on an offer from another team?

He's an RFA in 2009, and the talk earlier in the year was that he was going to try and test the market.

Having said that, the Wings have the right to match whatever he is offered, and even if he jumps ship we still get compensated with draft picks on a sliding scale based upon his salary. I forget the exact details, but if he signs with someone else for say $3M, we get a 1st and a 3rd.

I think anything up to that we can match easily, above that, and will teams be prepared to give up those picks for a 2nd line player?

ps, yes he was terrific, and really elevated his play in the finals - that weeks rest did him the world of good IMO.

One of few finns i actually enjoy watching... he could become something special in a few years...Maybe not as good as datsyuk and Z but somewhere near if he continues to get better.

looks like the wings should score like 400 goals next year :P. There's only so many goals to go around.

i've always been a big val supporter. sure, there were times late in the season where he really needed to step up, but i think he's shown his merit. i'm really glad we didn't give him up for hossa...sure, hossa had better numbers in the playoffs, but we obviously didn't need those extra points to win. and we get to (hopefully) keep val around for a long time, rather than being left with nothing after this season. i think it'll be fun to watch this kid develop.
