Nearing July 1st..

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Since July 1st is coming shortly and players are being bought out of their contracts thus being made available to other teams, there's going to be plenty of threads discussing various players and which direction we think the Wings should follow.

My request to you all is to try to limit the amount of topics to the sensible ones. Would Marc Denis or Andrew Raycroft be a fit for the Wings? Brad Isbister, Ed Belfour(Well, maybe if he pays the Wings a billion dollars.) ... etc.

Those are examples of some of the topics that've been started recently. It seems as if some members just reach into a hat, pulls out a player's name and decide that he would be a good fit on the Wings.

Please keep the BS to a minimum.

I appreciate this thread as much as anyone else, however if people can't see threads that are on the front page and make a new one, some how I don't think this will live up to expectations.

Amen to that. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone else start another thread requesting that people stop with the ridiculous threads. Some people just have a complex when it comes to posting a story first (or think they posted it first). As if they receive special points for it...

My favorite ones are the ones that start out with "I didn't see this posted...". Use the "Search Forum" tool; it's very easy to use.

Preaching to the choir my man, the funny thing is when people s*** on me for bringing up a topic that is a month or so old and are like, what did you do that for, I thought this was a new post, well how about you check out the date there slappy!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about who may or may not be a good fit for the Wings... While the amount of posts has grown out of control, I do believe that calling some threads BS is a tad over the edge and unprofessional by a site moderator. While I have started one topic about a goaltender, I do agree that some of the players that are being posted (Tucker, Isbister, Ryder, etc..) should be somehow lumped into one general discussion about possible acquisitions for the offseason. It's all about consolidation, less about BS.

There are varying degrees of hockey knowledge amongst posters on this site, but that doesn't mean they aren't serious about what they are posting and trying to make VALID arguments for their case.

But again, yes, we need to keep the amount of threads to a minimum before we break the internets!

Why don't we just create a few threads to get rid of all the garbage out there now?

An official: "What defenseman should we pick up?" "What forward should we pick up?" "What goalie should we pick up" threads would suffice.

I like that idea. Because, after all, this is a forum where people are allowed to share their opinnion. That idea would keep the topics to a minimum.

remember folks; the internet is serios business.

be safe!

These people think it's serious business as well! :P

(DISCLAIMER: Language and goofy stuff...relax it's just the words that are "goofy stuff" :D)

Seriously though, I agree with the CopenhagenWing in that I don't like the flavor of the month/week/day threads where the Wings should get player A one day, then B the next day etc., and I want these threads to be at an absolute minimum as well and they can be a pain in the butt since it is probably a safe bet the Wings won't get those players or there is little/no interest for all parties.

What can you do though? As long as the discussions remain down to earth and there aren't any personal attacks/spamming or whatever, technically nobody is doing anything wrong I think.

I think another point trying to be made was, the Search feature is your thread in case a player/topic has already been discussed recently, or just skim the first few pages of general discussion as some players will probably be hotly debated since it'll be a busier time of hockey talk, even though it is off-season.

Along the lines of using the search before starting a topic, may I also suggest being specific in the title. Most people are good at this, but if a topic is entitled "the best thing about the Wings", or something of that nature, it is hard to scan the first several pages to see if anything has been written about the plethora of d-men. That may be the best thing about the Wings, or it may not. (This is just an example. I am well aware that much has been written about our d-men.)

So now the question at hand is how to find out if we are stupid before we post and have others inform us of that fact. The great challenge of the truely stupid is that they (we?) don't realize it.

Well, someone started a topic about Eddie Belfour. That fits in the BS category thus the term.

If you want to cut us mods a check and make us professionals, we'll promise to try and behave ourselves.

Somewhat.

Maybe.

Or not.

Whatever...

I'm being real honest here...

I'm not really sure what the big freakin' deal is. Some people here seem to take this whole thing a little too seriously. I know it must be such a pain to deal with people like me who don't live on these forums. I just come around once in a while and see what people are talking about and sometimes I even dare to make a comment... but it seems like inevitably I always see someone being made to feel like a total idiot if they posted something that has already been mentioned or doesn't live by the secret code of the "regulars"

It's just a forum... I really like seeing what Wings fans are thinking and talking about and this forum is top notch, cream of the crop, but some people need to lighten up.

This forum is "top notch" and "cream of the crop" in large part due to people like the OP who help keep it that way. Whatever was he thinking asking for people to just take a few minutes and do a search before posting a topic or keep the sarcastic threads to a minimum during a very busy period on this site? The forums slow down a little during peak interest times, and the less posting of superfluous threads, the faster the forum for everyone.

Thank you for your kind consideration and cooperation. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.
