12Newf 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 (edited) the coyotes will finally be worth watching!!!!!!!!! Phoenix is going to be pretty good this year! im calling them to make the playoffs because of their leadership with Doan and Jovo and their youth. Kyle Turris has been on my radar big time the last few years because he reminds me so much of stevie y (and not because of #19). SIDENOTE: ive been depressed for days because last weekend stevie was in ottawa for the draft with the cup at a bar my buddy bounces at and i missed the call to go. jokinen, turris and mueller will be great but they seem to have a good balance of youth and experience and they also have some goaltending with bryzgalov. i dont know what they have planned for defense other than jovo and morris but i like that they signed mcgrattan today and they already have carcillo who is quickly going up in my books for his hard and honest play. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 Doan, Jovo, and Turris is the best you can come up with? What about Morris, Michalek (Zybnek that is...very underrated), Vrbata, Hanzal, and Mueller? Carcillo, Weller, and McGrattan?? Then of course jokinen and Bryzy? I'll admit though. They are pretty weak on defense. But they should be an offensive juggernaut, assuming Hanzal and Mueller dont have a sophomore slump.

They'll have almost the exact same roster as this season, only with a full year of Brad Richards. If a team is missing the playoffs that was in it this year, its easily the Wild. They'll lose Rolston, and it looks like Demitra too. Who on earth is going to score their goals? Chris Simon and Todd Fedoruk? Sucks for Gabby...
puckbags 863 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 If Breezy can stop about 40 shots a game between the pipes than they may have a shot at the playoffs. They are going to be fun to watch but they took a pretty big hit on defense when they traded away Ballard and Boynton. Maybe they have some interest in some free agent defensemen. Vincanni 1 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 If they were in any other division in the West I'd actually pick them to sneak into the 8th spot, but in the Pacific I just don't see it happening next year even though they're definitely on the rise.
digitaljohn88 4 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) If they were in any other division in the West I'd actually pick them to sneak into the 8th spot, but in the Pacific I just don't see it happening next year even though they're definitely on the rise. Phoenix had a divisional record of 19-11-2 vs the other Pacific teams last year. Their division is no excuse. The Coyotes missed the playoffs because they went 19-26-5 against teams NOT in the Pacific. My buddy is a big Coyotes fan and said the same thing about the Pacific, but it's the Central and Northwest teams that are beating them. If anything, they might be worse off in another division, since they seem to play so well against the Pacific. Edited June 26, 2008 by digitaljohn88
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 Phoenix has a lot of young talent, but you have to see how well they mesh together, before you can say how far they can go. However, Bryzgolov can steal some games for them, but as someone stated because of their division, they probably won't make the playoffs. It doesn't matter about divisonal records, it matters about overall records, and I can't see Phoenix doing better than Anaheim, Dallas, and San Jose

It doesn't matter about divisonal records, it matters about overall records, and I can't see Phoenix doing better than Anaheim, Dallas, and San Jose I see where you're coming from, but the fact is that the 'Yotes would have been fourth in any other division this year. Using Anaheim, Dallas, and San Jose is a crutch. The Coyotes got half their wins from the Pacific. Their division didn't affect (maybe helped) their overall record. If the Coyotes can maintain success against the Pacific, and learn to play against the rest of the league, I could see a situation where they make the playoffs even if the big three in the division also do. It would be similar to the Atlantic last year, having four playoff teams. Or, the Ducks can crash and burn, leaving Phoenix to take their spot. On a sidenote, I don't know if more than one Northwest team is a lock for the playoffs next year: Minnesota Colorado Calgary Edmonton Vancouver Could leave a spot open for Phoenix to sneak in

I believe the most likely team to make it to the playoffs will be Edmonton actually.
SnipeShow 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) yeah i made a post about this in the jokinen to phoenix* thread i think. i said like 2 days after the wings won the cup that im going to watch wings + coyotes games next year because i like the way they are going. then they trade for jokinen on draft day, what a beauty! *for Desert Wing Edited June 26, 2008 by SnipeShow

With the addition of Cammalleri, the Flames will still most likely make the playoffs.
Herr Hockey 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 The Coyotes likely would have made the playoffs last year if they would have had bryz all year. And that was without Olli Jokinen.
