eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=242048&...=topRelated_nhl Tampa is the talk of the town.... Until they fail to sign any of these players they have 'traded for' and turn out to have given up assets for nothing. And when will they be improving the defense? seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 So you trade a draft pick to talk with a guy 24 hours before you're allowed to talk to him? I don't get it.
rage 24 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Well Barry is really make a name for himself there. What's their cap space now that they have signed Malone?
rage 24 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Apparently his rights are not the only thing they got in this deal!! The 25-year-old Flint, Michigan native has 12 NHL seasons under his belt with stints in New Jersey, Colorado, Boston and Minnesota.
Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Apparently his rights are not the only thing they got in this deal!! Haha yea i saw that too. Funny how having your rights traded away and almost hitting free agency drops 10 years off your age....hope he doesnt sign with them, i really want him. If he does sign with them than Tampa has some good talent....on offense atleast. Could certainly use some defense.
weGotTheCup89 41 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 they just signed ryan malone, so its apparently not completely useless... 7 years $31.5M, man that's a lot. tampa bay's negotiating with them for just 24 hours in advance will go a long way if they're willing to overpay for rolston as well! Yeah something tells me that if they trade for the rights 24 hours before hand than they probably have a pretty sweet proposal for him that they want him to see before the big day....I hope Rolston wants to come to Detroit because im sure hes on Hollands radar as well, of course, we cant offer him what Tampa will...Come on Brian hold out for one more day and come to detroitttttttttttt
RedFX 48 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Dang. Melrose isn't playing around down there. If they somehow manage to get Rolston too, the Lightning will automatically become the Southeast's best team.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 So they've acquired the rights to Prospal, Roberts, Malone, and Rolston? Hmm. Tampa must be pretty satisfied with their defense. Their defense is actually incredibly cheap. 15M for 7 Dmen. Their goaltending only costs 2.5 as well. Thats less than 18M wrapped up in 7 Dmen and 2 goalies. Its no wonder they're wowing on offense. Even though there are some question marks there (what happens if any or Ramo, Smith, O'Brien, Ranger, or Lundin hit a wall?). Its nice to see them cutting lose a lot of the crap on that team. Darche, Karlsson, Macdonald, Gratton (I know I know hes really a clone of Todd Bertuzzi in his prime ) If they can sign Rolston, they're in a pretty similar situation to where Philly was post trade deadline. Tons of offense can get you pretty far in the East.
Glubki 17 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 The internal armchair GM within me is shaking his head at these moves but I can see where teams would do this; especially this year when even some of the bottom feeders are going to be forced to spend money to hit the 40 million dollar floor. Supply and demand definitely favors the players right now. Is Tampa making the right moves? Probably not - they are overspending a bit, trading draft picks away and focusing too much on offense by the looks of it.
rage 24 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 I guess they are thinking that since they hit the jackpot this year in the Draft, those picks that they are trading away aren't so important now.
SnipeShow 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Trying to keep up with Carolina's and Washington's loaded offenses (maybe they don't have the best offenses but they have a lot of fairly big names on each squad)

My first instinct was to interject with a "what the hell" comment, but then I looked at their cap space, and they really are in great shape. They need 6 more forwards (Roberts, Prospal, Rolston, Malone, Stamkos not included), then likely 1 more depth guy. If you figure roughly 14M for the 4 guys acquired, thats about 51-52M on a full roster with some big names up front, assuming they sign them all. Prospal - Lecavalier - St. Louis Malone - Stamkos - Rolston Jokinen - Halpern - Ouellet Roberts - Craig - Roy Thats a really nice, full forward unit, should they all sign. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted June 30, 2008 Apparently his rights are not the only thing they got in this deal!! Wow, so Rolston was the youngest player ever to enter the league at 13 years old. At any rate, this sucks. Hopefully Rolston will realize his home state is where he needs to be.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 There offence will be great next season, but the defence still needs another body. The top 4 is fine, but Ranger and O'Brien are still young, same with Lundin. Commodore to me seems like a perfect fit for Tampa.
Jericho613 74 Report post Posted June 30, 2008 The Penguins had a good offense too last season, look what happened to them in the finals, you need good defense and goaltending, Tampa lacks both.

Boyle-Kuba O'Brien-Commodore Ranger-Lundin Not too bad, espicially with Ranger, Lundin and O'Brien being so young.
