Michael Phelps might become the next Sidney Crosby or the New England Patriots as far as being disliked because he's so good.

I doubt it. Unlike Crosby or Brady, Phelps isn't routinely beating everyone's favorite team nor is he getting attention at their expense.

And what you think is more entertaining is purely a matter of opinion. Even without Phelpsomania, the swimming has generally always been prime time or near it. Personally I can't even see how weightlifting is even remotely entertaining.

I have no idea if China is consistently good in beach volleyball/volleyball or if they just had a great run in this year's olympic but last night beach volleyball's gold medal match b/w them and us was quite entertaining.

And even though this isn't Olympics related, to my surprise men's soccer was on for 2010 World Cup qualifying was on and the U.S. got a big 1-0 win at Guatemala. A lot of the countries from Central America probably won't make the World Cup outside of Mexico, but to win on the road in those places for a team/country like the U.S. who isn't cream of the crop in soccer is a tough ordeal. Was the first time they won a World Cup qualifier in Guatemala actually, if the reports reported correctly.

USA kicked butt yesterday! :patriot: :P

I watching the 105kg+ finals. It was friggin' awesome. Totally got me pumped up. Do you know what it takes to clean 258kg and follow it up with a jerk when your muscles are near failure? They're amazing.

The winner, Matthias Steiner from Germany, needed to lift 10kg more than he ever had before to win gold. His first lift he missed 242kg (I think) and just made the 247kg lift with his second so this looked completely out of reach. When he got it up there I was screamin' at the telly. It was awesome man. On the podium, he kissed a photo of his wife who died earlier this year I think it was. Great story.

But yeah, I didn't care who won, so I was just yelling at the TV for everyone. "Get that f***** up! Get it up! YEAH!!". Entertained the s*** outta me.

I thought the women's heavyweight - whatever they call it - the "clean and jerk" was pretty darn entertaining. Some women from South Korea won - can't remember the exact kgs, but it was a world record. I found it highly entertaining to watch these "big" girls trying to lift all that weight - and the crowd got into it!

I watched most of the women's basketball gold medal match b/w U.S. ad Austrailia. Like the Aussie men, I was impressed with how scrappy and physical the Aussie women's team played and that they never quit, even though it was all but apparent the U.S. would win as long as they didn't self-destruct.

Nice to see the US women get the gold in hoops. Add that to the gold in woman's soccer. Overall, the US women did well but just think of what could have been.

US women got the silver in softball, water polo, and volleyball. I think volleyball was the only one were they were clearly beaten by a better team.

My cable went out for a while late last night and I wasn't able to stay awake but thankfully USA showed a replay of the US-Spain hoops game and I was able to watch most of it this morning. Wow. That was one of the most entertaining games of basketball that I have seen in a while. Bryant was nuts in the end, and Gasol and one of Spain's guards, Fernandez I think, was pretty clutch as well. Good to see the gold go back to :patriot:

anyone watch boxing?

fiiiiiixed.

I feel bad for the fighters from other countries, because if you're in a bout for a medal against a Chinese fighter, you're all done.

There was a light heavyweight from Ireland who had so many punches land that weren't scored, the announcers kept commenting on it.

In China's defense, every Olympics had fixed boxing matches.

Woo hoo! USA wins volleyball gold! :patriot:

What an amazing victory after all the tragdy during these games for that team.

I am digging this closing ceremonies so far...i love how they just let the athletes enter the stadium anyway they want. One of the best things about the closing ceremonies>

What is everyone taking away from these games as their lasting memories?

Two athletes come to mind for me. Phelps and Bolt. Phelps owned the pool and showed me why he literally lives in the pool. Bolt showed me how fast lightning can travel.

I am gonna go thru some major withdrawals starting tomorrow. I can hardly believe that 16 days have come and gone already.

I feel sorry for other Olympic Games following these. It'll be hard to meet the pageantry of these games. All the other might as well just light the cauldron and start the Games.

Even the competition has been outstanding.
