Rice 42 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Disappointing....no Sundin or Rolston probable? Looks like it'll be a slow off-season for the Wings. Glad we re-signed Stuart anyway. There are still a ton of forwards out there: Hossa, Huselius, Jagr, Demitra, Naslund, Satan, Avery, Tucker, Ryder, Bertuzzi, Nagy, Stillman, Fedorov etc. Some are obviously more appealing than others, but we could still see a new forward. Are you kidding? No way we sign Hossa, Jagr, Demitra, Avery, Federov. And no one has had any rumors about the WIngs even mildly being interested in anyone else, though I would like to see Satan here. I could also settle for Naslund, only if Holland has a feeling Naslund won't be lazy and suck.
EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I am fully convinced that Karma will not allow Bertuzzi to win a Stanley Cup, therefore I don't want him on our team. That and when I was watching one of the games from the Ducks series last year, (the good one) I noticed HOW INCREDIBLY SLOW both he and Lang were. There is no way in HELL Bert could keep up with this team.

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I could see Holland being involved making a low-ball offer, but once again I don't think he'll give the term or amount that Bert will get elsewhere. And I'm totally fine with that. Let some team overpay him in hopes he'll finally play to his potential.
deker 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Call me crazy, but if he comes cheap, I could live with Bert as a replacement for Dallas Drake when he retires. Clearly not much would be asked of him this time around. Now, mind you, I'm not campaigning for it, but if Kenny does it, I won't jump off a bridge because of it. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Pass on Bertuzzi. He's not what the Wings need, or should even want.
Herr Hockey 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 What is it that people still don't understand when it comes to Hossa? HE WILL NOT BE A RED WING. Hossa is asking for 8 to 9 million dollars per year over a long term. It is absolutely impossible for Kenny to make this happen and to keep Zetterberg. And don't tell me he'd take a discount to come here, because he sure as hell didn't show any loyalty to Pittsburgh.
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I'm with you on that one. I think that could be a minor mistake to take him back. I mean he didn't want to be here last season. We tried to keep him and he decided to go west. When did he ever say he didn't want to be in Detroit? He got offered 4 million a year to go to a team (which at the time of signing) had just as good, if not better, chance to win a Cup than the Wings. Remember that had he accepted the Wings offer we would have had to fork over more draft picks to Florida. I mean if your offered twice as much from the current Cup winners, from a GM you have a good relationship with, than a team you have only been with a couple on months you wouldn't take that offer? If Kenny can swing a deal around 1.2-1.3 million for 1 or 2 years what is it going to hurt? Its a very low risk high reward move. Heck the Wings are going to need to dump a defenseman anyways due to roster space which opens up more cap room.
Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 1, 2008 Pleeeeease....no giant slug Bertuzzi. Did we learn nothing from last time? Learn what from last time? the guy puts up numbers, he can play mean if he needs too.. ask mr moore.. He's what we need, and thats more sandpaper, but not at the sake of skill and he still has both.. make it happen kenny.

KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 You people are hilarious. First, you want a big power forward...but you don't want Bertuzzi. I'll bet a lot of the people that don't want him now were people that welcomed him when he was here before. He's healthy, and effective again, and they don't get much bigger/power forward-ish than Bert. He didn't mean to break Moore's neck- how many times do you see sucker punches/dirty hits in a game every night? It was a freak accident, and I'd welcome him, and the 30+ goals that he'll score here with open arms.

If he were still the big power forward you claim he is, then why did Anaheim buy him out?

You are the funny one, 30 goals where in the hell did you get that number, you do realize it is 2008, correct. Did you just wake up from some coma or something, this is not the Todd Bertuzzi of 02-03, the last time he broke the 30 goal plateau. His body won't allow him to be the power forward he once was, his move to the net now involves going around the net, not through the opposition. BTW what is so funny that people would want a big power forward but not a former/once was big power forward.

Maybe he will be one day, but I haven't really seen it yet. In the playoffs he saw his icetime cut, and managed 2 assists and was -2. Granted, Anaheim had all sorts of offense problems, but you'd hope Bert would be one of the guys to help that. On paper he's got everything you'd want in a player. I just don't think it translates onto the ice anymore. He's okay, but will likely be overpaid. For the record I was not one of the people who pretended to like him as soon as he wore the winged wheel.
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 For the record I was not one of the people who pretended to like him as soon as he wore the winged wheel. I think some people confuse cheering for the logo on the front for cheering for the name on the back. I will not boo him or wish him harm or that he is a flop, because I am rooting for the winged wheel. However I would not be happy about him being on this team nor do I want him on this team. However I will cheer for the wings as he is skating on the ice!

Sounds like a good replacement for Drake if you ask me, especially with his offensive upside. And jeez, he bested Drake in a single playoff round?
