Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted July 2, 2008 if it comes down to it chelli will not be resigned me thinks. Quincy has a bright future and chelios is done. Ericsson is better than quincy but can still spend one mor eyear in the minors
redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Can we sign these two AND Flipper, Cheli and Mac/Downey? Qunicey - more than likely gone. Ericsson will be in GR.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Ericsson isn't going anywhere, Quincey is still going to get a shot at the team. A longshot, but a shot never the less, unless Val gets a big offer we have to match.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Ericsson will play in GR.. but one of Chelios, Meech, Qunicy or Lebda are gone for sure

egroen 384 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) Ericsson will be playing the greater majority in GR - non factor. Quincey will probably be lost to waivers. Or he will have to finaggle a quick trade of Meech, Lebda or Lilja. One or both of Downey/Mac will be signed to league minimum and two-way contracts... small impact to cap. Filppula can still be signed to $2 million very easily... up to $3 million with some creativity. Edited July 2, 2008 by egroen

Mors 201 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I don't think Quincey or Ericsson are going anywhere...I could definitely see Lebda being history though, and I'm not holding my breathe on Filppula either if he's expecting more than $2 million or so...
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Ericsson is our #1 skater prospect. Howard is obviously the overall #1 prospect, but our 6'5", physical, cannon of a shot, defenseman will be going nowhere.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Mac and Downey will sign for the league minimum each. Quincey will get 650k or 750k, Ericsson will be in the minors. There's room, Filpula isnt worth 3+ mil so I dont know where that leaves him.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 For those saying they can see Lebda being moved, I completely disagree. Lebda has a ton of experience compared to Q (or Meech for that matter) and he's locked in through next year making $650,000 and $850,000 respectively. That's absolutely nothing for a player of his calibre to be making and thus, the Wings will want to hang on to him simply because of that. Q could demand about the same type of contract in Detroit but he comes without the experience. I'll take Lebda for his locked in contract for the next couple years and move Q. As others have said Ericsson will be in GR, so that's not even an issue. Meech or Cheli....that'll be intersting to see who the number 7 guy is.

There's room, Filpula isnt worth 3+ mil so I dont know where that leaves him. ...put it this way. You are right about Downey and McCarty. Right about Quincey and right about Filpulla, BUT lets just say he gets an offer from someone else for $3.5 million. Do you match? I say no. Take the draft picks, because more than likely it'll be a team that may have a pretty high draft pick in 09'. If, lets say, the like of Phoenix or Carolina signs him and we get their #1, could very well be a lottery which puts us in contention for the #1 which will be John Tavares and (I know we don't need him, could not afford all these stars) could you imagine the trade offers we'd get for that #1? Hey, it's a possibilty. So, either way, we win. Even if we didn't score the #1, a top 10 draft pick would be well worth the loss of Filpulla. So, first choice is to offer Filpulla somewhere around $2MM. Second choice, let him test the waters... ...Ericsson is going NOWHERE! He will spend time in GRR this year with some call ups, but next year after Chelios is done for sure, he will be up all season long... ...anyone know how Kindl is coming along? I he close to being a Wing or is he gonna end up traded? He should be close to coming up I would think. That is why I think they should've given Lilja just a one year deal. Heck maybe Lebda is out soon. Not sure, but gonna have to make room for these guys sooner or later. I think the first one to go will be Meech, unless he converts full time to wing, then Lebda or Quincey... Lids - Rafi Kron - Stuart Ericsson - Kindl Lebda/Quincey or Meech ...hows that for defensive paring in a couple of years? Whew!
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 I'm hardly an expert about the minor league contracts, but I've gotta assume Howard's more or less looking at a 2-way deal again and spending the year in Grand Rapids. As much as you want him to compete, you've gotta put the money in other areas when you've got a guy like Conklin around for 750k/yr. now. There's just no need to sign him against the cap at this point when he's still got another year he can spend in GR. So that'll help, no? It seems everyone's assumed that we have to throw money his way to be with the team this year but now, I'm not so sure.

The other thing I can see is Chelios not resigning and McCarty is an extra forward: Datsyuk – Zetterberg – Holmstrom Filppula – Franzen – Hossa Maltby – Draper – Cleary Hudler – Kopecky – Samuelsson Meech Lidstrom – Rafalski Kronwall – Stuart Lilja – Lebda Chelios Quincey Osgood Conklin Edited July 2, 2008 by CenterIce

If Howard and Ericsson are assigned to GR, then their contracts do not count against the cap. Quincey will not be allowed to go through waivers, because they would lose him. They will more than likely make a move before training camp.

Someone is getting traded or bought out. Even though this might irk some people, I think Maltby is the weakest link. I highly doubt that anything will happen to him as he is a cheap buy, but I think I would rather see Helm playing than Malts, based on Helm's playoff performance (which might mean s*** all). South Dakota wings fan 7 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 lol @ Ericsson possibly being gone I don't want to lose Meech or Quincey but it has seemed inevitable for a while now that both would stay. Is this a possibility? Chelios does not sign, but comes on in a "coaching" role. The D could look like this Lids - raffie kronner - stuart Lilja - Lebda Meech - Quincey Ericsson in GR Then, if there were to be an injury or two, could Cheli sign and come play? I realize this won't happen, but at some point he has to hang 'em up.
