high_stick69 7 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 He is a FA.... if he'd take the home town discount, would you want him back?
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Drake was hungry and cheap and physical. Shannahan is a 3 time cup winner, not cheap (even at a discount) and soft.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Motivation -- or, more specifically, a lack thereof -- is Shanahan's biggest downfall at this stage in his career. Much of that has to do with the fact that he's already, you know, won the Cup.
wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Where do I start.... First, Shanny has one 3 cups. Second, Detroit is not a hometown of Shanny Third, Shanny left here because he felt he had worn his welcome out The list goes on and on.
IrishWing19 6 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) We can't afford him, we have roughly $4million left, the majority of which will be spent on Filippula (Probably 2.5 - 3.5m), after that there's still Chelios and McCarty/Downey which will be difficult to pull without moving someone. Legendary D In 03 50 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 People don't get that we have virtually NO roster space at all for ANYONE. Dats-Z-Homer Franz-Fil-Hossa Hudler-Clears-Samuelsson Maltby-Draper-Helm Kopecky, Mac/Downey So, whereabouts will you be fitting Shanny (anyone)? jawbreaker 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 We have already replaced Dallas Drake... with Marian Hossa.
zata40 3 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 The only way i would want him back is if he takes a BIG pay cut and we make sure to sign flip first. Otherwise if he wants to join us and we have cap room, why not.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 We have already replaced Dallas Drake... with Marian Hossa. hahaha But seriously, Shanahan is a defensive liability and refuses to buy into Babcock's philosophies. Also, we have about 4M to sign Flip, Chelios, Quincey, McCarty, and Downey. We're tight as it is.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 We have already replaced Dallas Drake... with Marian Hossa. Actually, that's a really good point.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 3, 2008 He is a FA.... if he'd take the home town discount, would you want him back? Hell no. How many times must this be said? Him and Yzerman retiring was a step forward. Anyway, how is Shanahan hungry for anything?
mpitts 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I thought one of the reasons for Shanny's departure was due to his not seeing eye to eye with Babcock and his coaching style / philosophy.
FLWINGSFAN4013 5 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 i dont think so he is going to want some money that we do not have to give, he is part of our past and it needs to stay at that, and plus he is going to sign somewhere where he can ride off into the sunset with a nice sum of cash. miller76 463 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 I love the guy, but this year is not the time. I wouldn't mind seeing him retire in Detroit when that time comes.
LeDs 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Shanny is soft..... If a team needs a player to stand around on the power play and wait for a one-timer then he is your guy. We need grit bad, especially after Dallas signing Avery. Too bad Helm isnt mean.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) hey everyone, Kenny said he was done. I'd take that at face value, besides he needs to save money for the trade deadline... I hear he is going to go after Ovechkin.... If anyone could do it... btw all you facebook users, search for the new group "Holland Worshippers" Holland is a god. Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Actually, that's a really good point. I was thinking the same thing. Everyone knows it's a one year deal. I'm already starting to think, "Win it for Hossa."
shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 would love him to come back but i won't hold my breath. He would lack the hunger that Drake had since he won 3 cups with the wings already.
glasgowcelticwing 18 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 i'm not sure wether he'd come back here or not but for me i'd pass . he'd want a good salary and the way i see it we have a good blend of youth and experience in our team as it is . we just won the Cup with that. we've just signed one of the greatest wingers out there in Marian Hossa so do we really need him? Shanny is a top two lines player and for me we have the two of the best top lines out there . we need to concentrate on the bottom two IMO . he was a great player for us who served us well and won 3 Cups with the Wings but we gotta start moving on sometimes and bring him back isn't really needed. bellarina 1 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 (edited) I was thinking the same thing. Everyone knows it's a one year deal. I'm already starting to think, "Win it for Hossa." I agree "win it for Hossa" Next year we will sign another player hungry for the cup and start it all over again Win it for "Sundin" Year after Win it for "Bert" Year after Win it for "Luongo" and so on, we may put together the longest stanley cup winning streak this way and take the lead in cup victories Edited July 4, 2008 by bellarina

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Short answer. No. Long answer. Nooooooooooooooooo. There's no cap space for him, there's no roster spot for him, and why exactly would Shanny even be needed in Detroit. I like the guy, but there's no reason to bring him back.
