How on earth did I forget about this line I change my answer from Trio Grande to this, seriously.

I don't know about that... "Trio Grande" owned a whole decade of hockey.

The best ever lines in hockey:

1) "I can't believe I shook his freakin hand." Dino.

2) "I can't hear a thing Roenick is saying because of the two Stanley Cup rings stuck in my ears." Roy.

3) "The next thing I remembered was the smelling salts." Some rookie who called Gordie Howe an Old Man in Gordie's last season.

4) "I think it was a tire iron!" A Hanson Brother.

5) Oh, yeah. The Production Line wasn't bad either.

My candidates for the greatest line in hockey history:

1) "Here's to all that gorgeous ****** in F L A!" .... Morris in Slapshot

2) "Your son looks like a *** to me".... Reg Dunlop in Slapshot

3) "They're too dumb to play with themselves"....Reg Dunlop

4) "They brought their f***in toys!"... who else, Reg Dunlop

5) "Are you guys brothers?"....Ned Braden in Slapshot

I just thought I'd ask your guys' opinions on what you think the greatest line is in hockey history, or what the greatest line is that you've ever seen play.

I think the French Connection is probably the greatest line in hockey history, because each of those guys fit a certain role, and they worked together beautifully. I'd put the "Trio Grande" with Bossy-Trottier-Gillies as 2nd best. You had Bossy as the finisher, Gillies as the tough guy who played in front of the net and cleared space, and Trottier, who could do anything out there on the ice.

The best line I've ever seen personally was Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Hull. The way Pavel and Hank could set up Hull for one-timers was really something to watch. It was a prettier line to watch from a finesse standpoint before Homer took Hull's spot.

Also, I was always fearful of that Tanguay-Forsberg-Hejduk line. They were a dangerous line where all 3 guys were on the same page constantly. They seemed to score goals just about every night.

Anyway, feel free to post, and I'm hoping that many posters who have been around a lot longer than me will add more insight on the great lines of the past that they've witnessed.

Actually, wasn't most of Hull's time in D town spent with datsyuk and deveraux?

02/03 and 03/04 was with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. 01/02 and maybe some of 02/03 was spent with Dats and Boyd.

Guest LivingtheDream

Greatest line was in Montreal, 1956. An unknown player said to an attractive young lady at the game, "Hey baby, how about coming to my room later and help me take out the curve in my stick?"

Oh wait, you mean lines as in forwards... never mind.

I hate to make jokes in my own thread, but I couldn't resist.

No one has mentioned Ellis-Hussey-Langfeld as of yet.

That line had an amazing ability to keep the puck in the zone for the longest time, even though they couldn't get a whiff of a scoring chance out of it. However, due to their cycling game, they should be considered on this list

I think one of the best potential lines for this upcoming season could be at the end of Red Wings games when we might need to put out:

Datsyuk

Zetterberg

Hossa

Lidstrom

Rafalski

and if we have to pull the goalie and throw Franzen into the mix....look out! especially if he's still on fire!

I don't think you can put a better 5 man unit on the ice today.

3 of the NHL's top 15 forwards + 2 of the NHL's top 5 defensemen... Nope, no better unit.

Stevens - Lemieux - Jagr

Never a real line.

Stevens was only on Lemieux's line through the 93-94 season. Jagr first played regularly with Mario in 95-96.

You are likely thinking of what is actually the greatest line in Penguins history, and did feature Lemieux and Jagr. The only difference is that the center on the line was Ron Francis. They played together for almost the entire 1995-96 season with Lemieux on the left wing (his first-team center selection notwithstanding) and finished 1-2-3 in scoring. Francis was also second in Selke voting.

I stand corrected for a second time, it was Ronnie Francis!!!

That sounds completely insane. Talk about stacking a line...

Sidney Crosby - Sidney Crosby - Sidney Crosby

Chris Pronger - Chris Pronger

Patrick Roy

No chemistry whatsoever:

Sidney Crosby - Sidney Crosby - Sidney Crosby

this line would whine

Chris Pronger - Chris Pronger

would be pretty much disqualified for the full season

Patrick Roy

would require some anger management coach
