jim3033 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) Who does Dallas have new now? Brunnstrom and Avery? They are going to be pretty good. Hossa though man. Hossa! Edited August 8, 2008 by jim3033
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 Who does Dallas have new now? Brunnstrom and Avery? They are going to be pretty good. Hossa though man. Hossa! They also lost Hagman, who is much better defensively than either or those guys and on par with Avery offensively. Possibly Brunnstrom too. lol, i dont think avery would have stopped detroit from beating dallas.... would it have been more interesting? sure. different outcome? doubt it. Considering Turco single-handedly won them one game, Avery was not going to push that collective skating squad from 1 lousy win to 4.

Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 Well, logic dictates that no, he wouldn't have made a difference in the end... Avery's team lost to the Penguins... The Stars lost to the Red Wings... The Penguins also lost to the Red Wings... So, it's like the whole "Do I cheer for the team that knocked my team off because if they win that means my team would have won had we not lost?" dilemma. And in all reality, in that series Dallas was VASTLY outworked in the first three games, battled back in the next two, and were outworked yet again in the deciding game 6. Avery would not have been able to provide the spark needed to beat the Wings. It would have been a fair bit more fun to watch, but I think the outcome would have been the same, Wings in 6. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 If the Stars had Avery in that series, the outcome would have been different in the sense that the Wings would have had more powerplay opportunities because of Avery, and probably end the series quicker. b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 I saw this video yesterday and debated making a Topic about it, glad someone did. I saw it as Avery being Avery, trying to stir the pot and work the media. He is like Burke and the "any news is good news" school of thought. Its funny because Hossa called the Wings "the team with the best chance to win the cup" this year, but Avery went straight for his previous team not being good. And I did enjoy the comment about the Stars-Wings series would have gone different. As others have said, Different? Yes. Changed the outcome? Hell no. In the end, I think its Avery being Avery and I think he has gotten to the point where he loves his own celebrity and plans to make everyone but the team he plays for hate him. rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 The genius thing about "Babcock Hockey" is that this Wings team plays like a group of emotional robots. Emotional as in: they have heart Robots as in: they have insane discipline Avery couldn't crack that egg with a maul.

Opie 308 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 While I agree he wouldn't have made a difference - I don't agree with your logic. By your logic the 'Hawks should be the Champs. Not really because in his logic he is using PLAYOFF teams and results, if you are going be using regular season who beat who it would be a conundrum or as we call it in the SQL world a Cartesian product, where some one beat the Hawks and some other team beat the team that beat the Hawks and some other team beat that team and so on and so on and so on. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 This just in, Avery is humble. Talk about an overinflated sense of self-worth. Why people like him is beyond me. There's a difference in being sarcastic and humorous. Avery is just an ass who somehow mindboggingly fits his enoromous head into an NHL arena.

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) Facts: 1. Avery was a Wing, so the Wings know all about him. 2. The Wings have two of the most annoying players in the game in Homer and Malts, so they know all about stirring s*** up. 3. The Wings face Jordin Tootoo on a consistent basis every season. Avery can't offer anything in the way of pestering that Tootoo can't -- except maybe running his mouth off in the media. 4. As someone already mentioned, the Wings steamrolled the Stars in all but two of those games this past series, and Turco stole at least one of those two games. Avery wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever. In short, Avery is a non-issue. However, the Stars are still arguably the biggest threat to the Wings' quest for a repeat.
