FSN-Detroit

Does anyone know if it's possible to get FSN-D - specifically the Red Wings games out of market? I live on the west coast and see that it's a possibility with Dish Network to add the RSN package to current channel lineup... but are all the pro sports blacked out? Is there any way around this, and if so - how are you doing it?

If not - does this mean Center Ice is my only option?

Well, I have DirecTV, but I'm sure it operates in a similar manner to Dish. Center Ice should get you every game but they randomly choose which local sports team is broadcast.

RSN sounds like the Regional Sports Network package I have which gives you every market's local cable sports channel. So you get all the FSNs and Comcasts but only American channels, no Canadian ones. Additionally I get the NFL and NHL network. Don't watch Football but the NHL Network is great.

Hope this helps some.

So from Virginia you get FSN-Detroit with that Regional Sports Network package then? No troubles with Red Wings broadcasts?

If you have the Center Ice package, along with the regional sports package (every FSN market) you'll be able to watch the games on FSND. If you don't have the Center Ice package, but do have the regional sports package, then you can still watch FSND, but not during Wings broadcasts, because of blackout rules.

Oof - it's not easy being a west coast Wings fan, I'll tell you that. Thanks for the info though - I'll have to figure something out to keep up with the games. Maybe Center Ice online *grumble*

Wow, that's lame. I did accidently turn to FSN during a Baseball game and it was blacked out, couldn't figure out why. Guess that's the answer.

My understanding was that if you have Center Ice for Direct TV you could choose which broadcast you want, I know with Center Ice online you didnt have that choice. I believe that Direct Tv started in the middle of last season letting you choose which broadcast you want.

I just moved out to the west coast and am wondering what to do. I get cable included with my apartment so I don't really want to pay for direct TV/center ice on top of it. Though, I have my TV hooked up to my computer. I was thinking I'd just get center ice online and watch it on there.

Has anyone used center ice online? Does it lag? And if so, how often? My fear is that the quality will be unwatchable and I'll have to follow around a ghost puck. Does the online center ice have a free trial or anything?

Just get Center Ice from directv (Send me my commission check directv), You get every Red Wings game on FSN-D home or away, unless its covered by Versus, NBC or if your local networks have a TV deal with your local team. Buying the regional sports package is a waste of money, and its still blacked out anyways for NBC, Versus or Local Networks, only bonus you get is Red Wings Live.

I think the blackout rules are absolutely rediculous and I absolutely HATE NBC and Versus, but I will TURN THE GAME OFF if its covered by the stupid local channel 45 here in Minnesota.

No. Center Ice tends to (but not always...) use the home telecast.

Don't buy the FSN package- any sports telecast that you *could* have bought with a package (ie- any professional sports games) will be blocked out.

albuquerque NM here.......dont get DISH.....they made me angry in so many ways 2 years ago.

got DIRECT TV center ice and regional broadcasts.

end of problem.

i usually get my choice of 2-3 different feeds. (columbus) (detroit) (center ice choice)..etc.

the only problem is telling my DVR which channel to record. (p.s. if you record and wait 1 hour in to the game you can fast forward all the commercials and catch up at the 4 min. left area)

but i should buy stock in it. not cheap

its worth it thou......

SoCal Wings fan here who lives the Wings through Directv with the Center Ice package. Pretty much everygame last year was broadcasted. The only ones blacked out last season not on FSN D were the few that were on the nhl network, which you receive as a channel anyway. The only s***ty thing about being in say the Ducks and Kings markets, is when the Wings are here or home, you have to listen to their broadcasters. Bob Miller of the Kings is typically respectful and cool. But the Ducks announcers are complete tools!

yeah, Brian Hayward is an utter tool...

the thing to remember is that on Centre Ice you don't get VS, so games covered by them arn't on. But most carriers run VS now don't they?

and not every cable carrier that carriers Centre Ice carries the NHL Network either i believe..

it's basically a clusterf***

(i live in another country so i'm guessing here - all my hockey coverage comes from torrents)

Just heard about another streaming option instead of Center Ice online - Hockeystreams.com will set you back just $50 for the entire year and they aren't nearly as many blackouts from what I hear since they're in Canada. Supposedly the quality is better than Center Ice online and I'm thinking I'm just going to have to try it out

Fortunately Directv carries vs, nhl network, fsn detroit, as well as me ordering the Centre ice package. Its just covers all the bases. Every game is covered.

Isn't it possible that if you use a Michigan adress for a Dish/Direct account then your be able to get all the Detroit stations (2,4,7) and FSN Detroit without the blackouts? I'm moving to Nashville next year, and don't want to lose not only Wings games but Tigers and Pistons too. Screw the Lions, I'll just become a Titans fan.

I used Center Ice Online last year and probably will again this year. Lagging will depend on connection I suppose, but I NEVER had a problem and I was working on my old laptop (MB of processing, MB of memory). I had my laptop connected to my TV via S-video, Y-audio cable and it looked fine, after a minute you don't realize you're not just watching it on cable. If you get CI Online the problem is never the games you can get, its the games you randomly can't get. Anything on VS. NBC or NHL Network is blacked out, which is extremely frustrating when you look forward to watching hockey after a long, s***ty day only to find out last minute you don't get it that particular night, and I'll never understand why I pay out the ass for a hockey package and they basically rob me whenever they want me to find a TV with the NHL network on it. There are streaming alternatives available for free which you will need to know when your game is missing, but at best they are unreliable, at worse unfunctional. The upside to CI Online is games on demand, the ability to watch any game already played whenever you want, of course sometimes it takes longer than others to get a game you want to rewatch up. Thats my piece on Center Ice Online, recommended but could be better (and cheaper).

EDIT: Just noticed the Hockeystreams.com link and looked into it, has anyone seen livestreams in action? Seems like something too good to be true or something that would surely be shut down and sued once the NHL was onto them. Thoughts?

I'm buying an HDTV in the next couple of weeks, looking at cable and satellite providers right now.

Basically, it's $65/mo. for the cable with the HD channels included (Time Warner Cable) or $50/mo. for the satellite and an extra $10/mo. for the HD channels (DirecTV). For the most part, both packages have my bases covered for what I'm looking for. Almost a wash.

Anyway, what's everyone's (someone's?) experience with games in HD on Center Ice from DirecTV? $600/year for satellite plus HD plus the $1,300 I'm going to unload on this TV, I better not get stiffed with 3 Wings games in HD (besides the Versus and NBC editions of the games).

Anybody have any advice on this subject?

I had Center Ice last year (not through DirecTV but I'm assuming it's pretty much the same across the board) and they showed quite a few Wings games in HD. Not every broadcast was in HD but it seemed like the Wings had the most out of any team by far and pretty much every home game was in HD.

Center Ice (usually) has an HD feed for at least every game their broadcasting, if that particular FSN, CSN, or whatever local sports station has an HD feed available (at least I've noticed that. I get Center Ice through DirecTV, but it could be different through other satellite or cable providers).
