MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reports that Bryan McCabe has waived his no-trade clause to go to the Florida Panthers. Trade details not available yet, though rumours recently had the Leafs & Panthers working on a blockbuster package including McCabe & Jay Bouwmeester. Heaton 1 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Jay-Bo to Toronto? That could make some folks happy, especially since Toronto won't have to give up much since they're trading with Florida.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Bouwmeester to TO would do wonders for their blueline. But McCabe agreeing to wave the clause to go to Florida? That's the best he could do? Or is that the only team that would take him?
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted August 14, 2008 wow if boumeister is seriously going the other way...... Kenny we need to trade with Florida more often.
Wingnut in WA 86 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Even if the leafs get BO in this deal, he is still set to become a free agent after this year and gl keeping him terrible leafs organization.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 wow if boumeister is seriously going the other way...... Kenny we need to trade with Florida more often. Doesn't Florida have one of our top prospects right now for practically cleaning up their garbage?
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Perfect trade for McCabe. He goes from somewhere where he's under constant scrutiny and criticism from the media, to a place where no one can even spell hockey. He could shoot 10 goals this year into his own net on purpose, and no one in south Florida would even take notice.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Doesn't Florida have one of our top prospects right now for practically cleaning up their garbage? Matthias was ranked about 5th or 6th among Detroit center prospects at the time of the trade. Regardless of what people think of him now, he was not considered one of our top prospects at his position, let alone overall, at the time he left the organization. FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 (edited) Well, this makes sense if Bouwmeester doesn't want to re-sign with the Panthers and now Fletcher gets McCabe off the payroll. wow if boumeister is seriously going the other way...... Kenny we need to trade with Florida more often. I'm waiting for first "Sammy for Horton" post. Edited August 14, 2008 by FinRedWing

FirstSamuel1745 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 The talk seems to be that this is a straight-up deal; it can't possibly be. It just wouldn't make sense for Florida. There's got to be some high draft picks or some hotshot prospect going to Florida if this deal is going to get done.

marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Florida would get so much more for Bouwmeester if they waited until the trade deadline. I'd say the ONLY reason his name is being thrown around is because he is only on a one year deal and seems to show lack of interest in staying in Florida. No GM in the league could be stupid enough to make that trade straight up.... at least I'd hope so.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 I can't imagine a team would agree to a trade until he has received his signing bonus in Sept. If the Leafs trade him today, whoever they trade him to must pay him the $2m signing bonus. As if having him on your team for that cap hit wasn't enough. There is no way any GM would be stupid enough to fork out for the Leafs. Please correct me if I'm wrong in understanding it this way but I'm pretty sure that's how signing bonuses work. McCabe totally sucks anyway. He is literally the last player in the league I'd want on my team for his price (yes, including Finger). Even when he scored 20 goals or whatever it was, he still sucked arse like no-one else. I feel like some of these reports are a little premature. We'll see I guess. 96warrior 11 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Hockey/20...444766-sun.html McCabe Waiting For Bonus from Mike Zeisberger and Terr Koshan of the Toronto Sun, Whatever the case, a source close to McCabe said last night the veteran defenceman would not change addresses for at least another couple of weeks. “(Bryan) isn’t going anywhere until Sept. 1, at the earliest,” the source said. “That’s the date (he) gets his $2-million US signing bonus from Toronto. According to the source, the Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and New York Rangers are among the teams McCabe would consider, although the Rangers might be out “because they’ve already signed everybody.” Ian Pulver, McCabe’s agent, said nothing is confirmed as of yet. “We continue to work with the Leafs to resolve this situation,” Pulver said in an e-mail last night. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 To me, the fact that Bo doesn't want to re-sign with FLA is moot. The fact of the matter is now Florida is stuck with McCabe. Well played Toronto!
Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted August 14, 2008 The way McCabe has been presenting himself, would make me stay away from him at all costs.. He's a slouch..
Guest nutz2u Report post Posted August 14, 2008 Hard to believe the Panthers would be on anyone's list of places to go, also can't see Boumeister wanting to sign on with the Leafs as crappy as they are.

When the Leafs brass starts threatening to make you a healthy scratch every night until you waive your NTC, any of the other 29 teams starts to look good. Opie 308 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 So lets say Bo ends up in Toronto, does this make Toronto more appealing to Sundin, or would they need to make a major move at Forward to entice him back? Thoughts? I am really not sure he wants to go back, but his heart strings have got to get tugged on a little when the only team he has ever played for (NHL) is getting better, make no mistake about it, adding Bo will help their D a lot more than McCabe would.
