Scotty 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Man, if Sammy had done it, LGWers would be throwing bricks through his house's windows and leaving bags of flaming s*** on his doorstep. Nice, Dabura. Anyway, Downey didn't do anything wrong, he's just trying to make the team and a freak accident occurred. No big deal. s*** happens.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Stop bitching guys. This is hockey not baseball. Believe me, if the hit was dirty enough, Lilja would have stepped in there and destroyed Downey. Since he didn't, I'm guessing it must have been a clean hit. It's not Downey's fault that Flip is softer than a beanie-baby and he got hurt from a simple hit.

Zion 93 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Yes, and if it were broken or Downey had bitten it off we'd have good cause to be concerned ... it's jammed. That's it. One step above a hangnail. No worries. Dude, have you ever HAD a hangnail? 2-3 weeks, easily.

I think Drapes bitching at him, and Downey *admitting* he saw numbers when he hit shows it was not a "freak" accident. It was a bad check. He didn't mean it, he aplogized, but as was said, if it was Sammy, 90% of you would have a different opinion OF A HIT YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE. Damn, we are a bunch of homers... Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Didn't see is, so can't comment on it. Sounds like it was non-intentional. I cant believe that Downey would go after one of his own players less than a week after vowing he's there to stick up for his team. He's trying to make the regular lineup, and just got a little ahead of himself. Drapes got to him, and he and Flip apparently hugged afterward. All is forgiven in my book. Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Its a scrim game your own team shouldnt be going around injurying eachother... Screw that. Wings need to send a message. All the other teams need to know that if a Wing hurts another Wing, well, someone's gonna have to pay. And it will probably be a Wing. Which means, you know, the other team's guys can just sit on the bench or whatever while we settle this once and for all. Grrr!
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 I am glad to hear that Downey worked things out with Drapes and Flip. We don't need any of this stuff coming into the season, but you can tell Aaron felt really bad and didn't mean it. Hopefully Flip is going to be okay, I'm sure he will be. uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 “He feels really bad about it,” Draper said. “It’s over and done with and you move on. But from where I was sitting on the bench it looked like it was from behind and I just didn’t think that it was necessary. It looked like it was pretty worse. I’m not sure how long he is going to miss.” Draper the hypocrite? Think that was a little needless form him basically having a jab at Aaron. Like he would intentionally injure a teammate...jeesh. therock48880 14 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Its a scrim game your own team shouldnt be going around injurying eachother... Yeah, I'm sure his intent was to injure a teammate. This is HOCKEY. Even during scrimmages and practices, it gets physical.
norrisnick 1 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Draper the hypocrite? Think that was a little needless form him basically having a jab at Aaron. Like he would intentionally injure a teammate...jeesh. Did he run a Wing and I missed it? What is Downey trying to accomplish running a guy into the boards during a scrimmage in the first place? Nevermind the fact that Fil was facing the boards so he could play the puck. In a scrimmage there is absolutely nothing positive that can come out of it. The only thing it shows is that Downey doesn't have the control he needs to have. If he can't avoid a dangerous play in what is essentially a practice what's he going to do when his adrenaline is really pumping in a game situation? That play is a 5min PK during the regular season. Downey doesn't bring enough to the table to be able to afford ANY mistakes let alone pretty big ones. Is it being blown out of proportion? Very likely, but Downey has no margin for error at this point.

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 I think this just goes to show that accidents DO happen with these hits from behind. We see it happen a lot and sometimes, it's not deliberate, it just...happens. If anyone thinks that Downey was deliberately trying to injure one of his own teammates, they're crazy. Guest Four Report post Posted September 22, 2008 I laughed when I read this on the front page. Downey wouldn't intentionally hurt a teammate, Flip has a jammed thumb, nothing big - we are all going to live. In Aaron we trust.

He really isnt what we need anymore with mac and KQ. That's probably the most opposite of statement of how Downey played last year that you can get. If anything, compared to other enforcers and how McCarty played in the playoffs, Downey was too careful.
