up2here 41 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Anyone heard anything more about how Nick is doing after taking a puck in the face last night? Edited September 25, 2008 by UP2HERE
Opie 308 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 Not that it is new news, but: Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom was hit in the face with a shot and was helped off the ice 3:05 into the third period. He took stitches above his right eye and also went to the hospital for precautionary X-rays. AP story, go to any recap of the Wings games and you should see the same line. The fact that nobody is covering this beyond stitches makes me believe it is just that, stitches. If he had a broken bone it would be leaked some where by now! Yeah I read that story and I hope youre right that no news is good news. No news sometimes makes me worry but this doesnt appear to be too serious. I vote Nick doesnt play another pre-season game. 12Newf 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) i cant remember where i read this and ill try to find a link but i read last night that there is no real damage, just a few stitches and there are no problems with his eye. "It's above the eye, (it) touched a bit of his nose and above his head, so they're going to send him over for some tests," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "(The injury is) nothing to do with his eye, so that's obviously the positive news." http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=250596&...=headlines_main edit: found the link. I said " I know, cause all the Redwings are good players" lol

pinkprincess027 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 His nose is broken, and he will miss at least the next three games. Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom has a broken nose and will miss at least the next three preseason games, coach Mike Babcock said after practice Thursday. Lidstrom was hit with a deflected puck above his right eye early in the third period of Wednesday's exhibition opener against Montreal. He was taken to the hospital for stitches and X-rays. There was no damage to the eye. "He's got a broken nose, but everything (else) is fine,'' Babcock said. "He didn't come to the rink today. He'll be back here tomorrow (for practice).'' http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...nose_out_n.html

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 Wow, this is certainly good news. Get well soon Lids! On a side note, this really highlights a pet peeve of mine. I understand it was a freak play that resulted in Nick's injury, and it could have very well happened during any game, but the NHL pre-season is far too long. Nine games? It is absurd to think a team needs nine pre-season games. Five would be more than enough.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Nine is fine, especally with the rules demanding that players have limited games playing. I like to see the youngsters play, its one of my favourite things. Though I really don't get to see them much with no one airing the games.... Lids really gave me a scare there last night, I thought oh god don't end his career like that. Edited September 25, 2008 by Majsheppard

IMO 9 is way, way too long and you're right, 5 games sounds about right.
