LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) I disagree, the worst move ever was drafting Sam Bowie. re-signing Darren McCarty. ....fixed it for you.... Edited October 13, 2008 by LeftWinger
LIDDYGIBBY5 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 If we would have gotten rid of Chelios how would Detroit have gotten draft picks? If anything Chelios would have probably been waived as well. We wouldn't have been in position to have to move someone. Other GM's aren't stupid. They aren't going to give up a pick for Quincey if they can get him through waivers for free. Signing Cheli caused the logjam that forced a decision to be made. Detroit could have gone through the whole season carrying 8 D and traded one if they wanted to. Well considering Quincey doesn't seem to have a shot at cracking the top four I don't see Detroit having such a loss. With or without Cheli we'd still have a logjam and we might have lost Quincey next year anyways.

He's on a year to year so there wouldn't be a need to waive. I think the wings are gun shy due to inj on our D core. 2probert4 8 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 that's a very valid point. I've also been a big fan of Quincey in 2007 playoffs for the very same reasons. as for Chelli... I dunno, man... sure he's not as flashy anymore but he's also a lot of experience and huge educational value so to say. we can't measure this nor even observe but I'm pretty sure this has big importance on our team development. and with Red Wings having defense-first mindset this extra knowledge and experience may be super valuable. IMHO, the thing about keeping Chelli is that he's still OK on the ice and has plenty to give other than just his play in actual games. might be that Holland decided this is more important to the Wings now than keeping a fine prospect. and he had to axe someone Ive made similar posts about Quincey, and all I get are people who want links with examples of Lebda and Lilja stinking up the joint, and most of the people on here think Quincey is bad because theyve seen him play once where he turned over the puck or something in a game, but they turn the blind eye to the 07 playoffs or they weren't Wings fans yet and didnt watch...Just because he was waived doesnt mean he was the worst, he was just the odd man out with the Wings inability to tell Chelios that it's time to move on. Chelios has already hinted that if he is not playing very much he may ask to be moved......
2probert4 8 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 No, Quincey's cap hit will still remain the same because he's on a two- way contract. if he somehow passes waivers today, his money will not count vs the Wings cap. Thats the purpose of waiving him was to create cap space...He would be at GR

BigTex 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 So when will we know if he cleared? I read it was 48 hours if it happens during the weekend, that time should be about up. Sometime this afternoon? Anyone know exactly when we'll find out? If he clears this will be a MAJOR coup for the Wings. I say just let him play out the season in GR if he clears. He'll get regular playing time and continue to improve. Then he could come up at the end of the year for the playoffs when he wouldn't have to go through waivers. I'm still amazed no team would give anything for him with some of the piss poor defensive efforts on some teams right now. Maybe we're thinking he's worth alot more than he really is? DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Some guy at hfboards just said this: "rumors say the kings... NHL.com had him on their team a few minutes ago... But now back to the wings" Who knows if there is any validity to it thought, I don't see anything official anywhere.
LIDDYGIBBY5 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 It was supposedly noon, today, but there is no official word. Take it for what it's worth. Quincey's name isn't listed on the Red Wings official website in the team section. I don't know if he was previously listed but now he isn't. Ericsson's name was there if that means anything. pucker4fischer 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 How do teams get compensatory draft picks for players they lose? Is that for signing restricted free agents or what?
Guest mindfly Report post Posted October 13, 2008 He'll get tons of icetime in kings, and my mate oscar moller is also on that team, i'll watch kings game for sure this season. Too bad we couldn't work out a trade though but the GM's are greedy(or smart ) and knew about wings tight situation.
zata40 3 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 It's for the best, i guess LA will be a good home for him. He's now going to get a hell of a lot more playing time than what he would have gotten in Detroit. Best of luck!!

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 That's too bad to lose him that way. It's too early for me to tell, but Quincey seemed like he could develop into a good physical stay at home defenseman.
