Krystal 41 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Good game, Hossa and Hank lit it up and made it a gorgeous game until that 3rd period.. something (I don't even know what to call it). Now I'm gonna down some meds and call it a night. Have a good one!

BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 The Wings defensive problems can all be attributed to a lack of physicality. It's not enough to just play sound positional defense. When guys are in your crease, you gotta knock 'em on their ass. There wasn't one big Wings hit in this game. It's ridiculous. But a win is a win! The Wings do need to get this problem solved, though. The lack of intensity but ability to get by on talent alone reeks of the last Cup defense squad in 2002-3. Don't want this season to end like that one did. The only forward I've seen dish out a few decent hits is Franzen so far and there really isnt a Dman that has been able to bring it physically consistently. I really wish we had a crash and bang 4th line and 3rd pair unit.

But I'd die to have a Raffi Torres or Chris Neil on our team, and on defence a Mitchell or heck his teammates Bieksa. They'd all provide the physical play were looking for and can play too. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Just got back from work, heard the whole game. Sounded close at the end, but good to hear Hossa and Hank with the pair each and Ozzie with the win.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Hossa's first goal was freaking SICK! Amazing game by him as well as Hank. Oz was sharp tonight. Good win, even though a little nerve wrecking at the end!

Agreed - Neil and Torres have always been guys on the top of my list, but Torres has had some injury troubles lately. Neil on the other hand is a UFA at seasons end, so who knows what could happen during the season. If he becomes available...man.

Neil has been at the top of my list since he tried to beat the Ducks by himself in the finals a couple years ago. He could provide so much to this team, and is better than half of the bottom 2 lines. Torres was high on my list after his huge playoffs in 06, because he proved he can bring it when it counts, but his injury history is a concern. I'd still die to have either on the Wings. skacore 2 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Chris Neil is THE IDEAL forward for this team right now... with 1 single addition we have a great forechecking line, an enforcer, and an alternative scoring threat when the skill game just isn't working. He's the closest thing to a prime Darren McCarty in the league right now.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Physicality, as usual, has nothingt o do with it. Our defense men are being TERRIBLE in positioning, and giving up turnovers and opportunities. I get so damn tired of the whole physical argument, have you guys learned nothing?

adtthosa 5 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 THAT'S what we want to see from Hossa! What a game he had, he was creating offense all over the place. Datsyuk was excellent as well. Nice to see our big lines really clicking tonight. Overall I'm pretty happy with the win but I want to nitpick a bit. Lebda and Meech were awful tonight. Were they on the ice for all three goals against? At least two of them anyways. It just makes me wonder sometimes how good we could be if we were playing Helm instead of Kopecky and Ericsson instead of Lebda/Meech. I don't dislike any of our players, but when you have such great talent in the minors and you have guys out there that either don't really do much or play terribly....just makes me wonder. skacore 2 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 holland is not going to make a trade decision based on 7 games in october. when did I say he was? people were talking about Neil, Torres, Mitchell, Bieksa as guys the Wings could use... I put in my 2 cents about Neil, he's been a guy I've wanted on this team for a few years now
