Opie 308 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 So with all of the negative threads flying around here I figured lets start one about the pleasantly surprising of just good things going on for this team right now. I would like to keep this a positive thread, there are plenty to post negative thoughts in, can we try our best to be civil, can't we all just get along! I'll start: -Dats and Hossa seem to be meshing quicker than I thought - Pretty balanced offensive attack getting points from 15 different players, only 3 of them having less than 4 points - Hossa scoring on 1/8th of his shots, that is pretty impressive, almost as much as Homers .300 SH% ! The Secret 304 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 I think the best thing so far is the fact the we can come up with wins even while we are really not playing up to par yet. To be honest, even though we are not playing Red Wing hockey yet I feel no nervousness with this team! A lot of players that have been around the team for a long time and know what to expect. Adversity is part of the game and we are gliding through some early in the season.... says a lot about us as a team! Hossa has been a great addition, I love watching him play with Datsyuk and Holmer! Good thread!

Good thread! Not only are the Wings not playing up to snuff, but other teams are playing against them like they would in a playoff game... and the Wings are still finding a way to win. I've commented on this before, but from reading other teams' fan forums, they are positively giddy with how their team looked against the Red Wings, despite the losses. Shutemdown 23 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) Great thread! Way to keep it positive, Opie! Also on a positive note, Downey hasn't injured anybody else on our team! Wewt! In all seriosity(<---came up with that, myself), I agree with The Secret in that, although the Wings aren't playing up to their potential, there's no nervousness or hesitation. They're still finding a way to win games. I'm glad they're getting these bumps out of the way this early in the year, though. Also, it speaks praises to the team for being able to push through hard-fought games, come back from multiple-goal deficits, and come up big in shootouts, both the players (Datsyuk's dangle or Hossa's slapshot to upper shelf) and our goaltending (Conks continues to impress). The team's playing like s*** and still coming up with wins... that's huge. Can't wait to see them in December/January when team starts taking on it's mid-end season form. I'm excited that we have Hossa for the whole season. I'm excited he gets to play with the same team for a full season... he's going to do great things. I still have high hopes the Wings will try hard to retain him at the end of the season, and I'll bet he wants to stay as long as he can. He's really coming together with both Dats and Homer. He's already starting to get hot and we've just begun. Can you imagine him towards the end of the season/playoffs? Oh, jeez... my pants just shrank a bit. Shockwave180 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 I still like their Slurpees. Well-played. Seriously, though, if the Wings can go 7-1-1 without playing anywhere close to their best hockey...wow. That's scary. But in a good way.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 Z finding his rhythm on his new line has been great to see. If they can continue to build their chemistry that line will be a force to reckon with come playoff time. The best part about them being 7-1-1 is that all the players will even tell you they aren't yet playing up to their ability. If they're 7-1-1 when they're "struggling" imagine what they'll be able to do when they start firing on all cylinders.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 Hossa has been awesome so far, I am really surprised how good he is. Lilja is playing well too. Lebda is horrible though. Nick is not Mr. Norris yet, but I am not worried since he's gonna hit his stride by December. Defence as a whole is somewhat sloppy. PP is really, really good. Ozzie was average at best, Conklin looked pretty good.

Sorry, I just had to be the first smart-arse. I totally agree with you, though. We've seen flashes of brilliance on the ice for our boys, but overall, they just haven't looked great - at least for Red Wings hockey. And they're still 7-1-1. I can only imagine what they'll look like when they're rounding into midseason form and are actually playing sound defensive hockey. The rest of the league will still be gunning for us, but hopefully by then, we'll have some CONVINCING wins and not as much of this one-goal stuff.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 Kopecky is the reason we're 7-1-1. Without him, we wouldn't have won any of those games. Remember, his pussiness aside, he brought Hossa here.
redwings1973 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2008 Wouldn't it be great if 7-1-1 with a less than impressive defencive effort is the Wings version of the "Cup Hangover" I keep hearing about?
