I don't like the guy, but he has been playing well lately. He has been showing effort, finally, and he's valuable when he does so.

When Lilja plays hockey, he doesn't show effort - effort shows Lilja.

OK, I heard some chicks refering to Lilja as "hot (Swede)" so I get the point

but in my understanding the Yahoo thing was about sports not glamour... ;)

seriously though... I don't get it. they got these rankings based on statistical

things and I don't see Lilja doing anything very spectacular compared to all

players in all 30 NHL teams. so they must have some really strange formulas

for what is considered hot and what's not...

I think Lilja is a very strong fifth-defender. And he is a beast blocking shots. And after today's game (2 points), I would have to agree. He is definitely hot by his standards. Has he ever had a multi-point game?

Yeah in an Mlive article it says his last two point game was when he was with the LA Kings. Ever since this board has been calling him the Pain Train, Lilja has been awesome. I think after his turnover against Anaheim in the playoffs he realized he needs to step his game up and s***, he's done that nicely.

The playoffs up to that goal was the best that Lilly had ever played. He was our 2nd best defenseman behind Lids. He was leading the playoffs in hits through the conference finals. He was awesome.

Believe it or not- I remember reading somewhere that he had a hat-trick when he played for the Panthers! Tried to google it for evidence but all I could find was that Lilja was involved in a sex scandal back in Sweden!

Not Much of A Surprise to Me. I've been a Wings fan since 92, but really Kinda Lost touch with the team, Being in Windsor. When the only Games you can watch are on the Odd Night they play on CBC I went a good 5-6 years not really following the team very closely. (02-06)

But Last Year, Thanks to illegal internet Piracy, and A better Job that allowed me to go to a lot of games, I watched about every Game. And for the First Half of the season, I couldn't believe How Many Luilja Bashers there Were. I thought He was their Best defensive Player, Blocking shots, Breaking up plays, Saw Him Score a Couple of Goals. I Couldn't believe how many people Disliked Him.

Until Late in the season / Playoff Time. He'd Play A Pretty Solid game, but then Make One big mistake that caused a goal. And So Many Times when he's out Killing Penalties, he's caught just Standing around, and Not covering the open Man that's about to put one by Osgood.

Let's enjoy good Lilja Now, while he lasts....But I have a feeling Come Playoff time, we won't be praising him quite as much.

Lilja's always been a frustrating player to watch. He will make good hits, good plays and then do something incredibly stupid to erase his good play. He almost did it last night when he inexplicably threw the puck in front of the net on the pk to a guy who was covered and not expecting it. He got away with it but that would have been classic Lilja. But it's good to see him playing well for a change.

Lebda is now listed as hot also.

The "hot" or "cold" ratings are for the last 14 days. Lilja is a +4 with 4A; Lebda is a +4 with 2A/1G. That doesn't constitute "hot" (except for in a relative sense, when compared to their play previously in the season) in general, but they're doing well as our third pairing lately.

Every single Detroit defenseman makes that pass on the PK. It's the standard "out" for them if they win a puck battle in the corner because 99% of the time the PP players will hug the board to attempt to smother a clearing attempt. So the Wings just make a quick pass to the slot where a Red Wing forward should be.
