I did an article on the renewal of Blackhawks - Red Wings rivalry, and based on the coach's and player comments they can feel it too. But if there was any doubt about the rvalry being on check out the back and forth in section 211A during the game Saturday night at:

Thanks,

Mike

That's too bad it's like that! I never understand why people have to jeer the other team...just cheer louder for your own!

I personally like the fact that we have a team that gives us a challenge. I think sometimes in the past the Wings have lost their sharpness/edge because they weren't challenged enough by the 50 bazzilion games against the Central Division. I'd like to see the Blues come back as a force too!! The Blues and Blackhawks games have always been my favorite to watch play the Wings.

Just copy/paste his blog article in the thread.

Here is the article so you don't have to click the link to read.

Welcome back Blackhawks, now Red Wings fans can loathe you again.

The Chicago Blackhawks are enjoying a resurgence on and off the ice and are once again relevant in the hockey world as evidenced by a cover story in The Hockey News on December 1st.

Led by super sophomores Patrick Kane (last season’s rookie of the year) and team captain Jonathan Toews, the Hawks are quickly becoming a pain in the posterior for the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings, and this is great for the fans.

Following Detroit’s 5-4 comeback shootout victory over Chicago on Saturday, December 6th at Joe Louis Arena, the Wings sit in second place in the Western Conference while the Hawks are seventh, meaning if the playoffs started today this would be a first round match up. This would be a treat for the fans as these two teams have played some very entertaining hockey over the past two seasons.

Oddly enough these two teams have only played each other 14 times in the playoffs, the last time being in the 1995 Conference Finals won by the Wings four games to one.

Since the arrival of Kane and Toews last season, the Wings record against the Hawks is five wins, four losses and one shootout loss. Two of the Wings victories have come via the shootout this season.

To put it in perspective, between their last playoff meeting and the arrival of Kane and Toews last season the Wings had a record of 38 wins, 14 losses, eight ties and six overtime or shootout losses against Chicago since 1995.

“They’re good, they’re talented. Kane and Toews, (Patrick) Sharp and this (Kris) Versteeg kid, and obviously (Brian) Campbell, and (Brent) Seabrook and (Duncan) Keith, those are front line players, and they have good goaltending,” said Wings coach Mike Babcock, assessing the budding rival. “I expect them to be good for a long time to come, I expect us to have some very entertaining hockey games with them.”

It’s something the players’ sense as well.

“They’ve just carried over from last year,” said Dan Cleary on the Hawks improvement. “They’ve really had our number, they played us well last year. I can remember they beat us numerous times last year, and this year they have played us well. It’s been a shootout kind of game, the last time we were in there it was another shootout win.”

And by the banter in the upper bowl at Joe Louis Arena the rivalry is something the fans have picked up and seem to enjoy as much and if not more than the players and teams. Here is an example of an exchange between some Hawks fans and Wings fans following a penalty call on Detroit:

Hawks fan: CHEATERS!

Wings fan: We won the Cup!

Hawks fan: CHEATERS!

Wings fan: 1961!!

The next meeting between the two teams is The Winter Classic at Wrigley Field on New Year’s Day. It will mark the 700th game between the two teams, the most between two teams in NHL history. The Wings lead the all-time series record against the Hawks with 354 wins, 261 losses and 84 games ending in a tie.

As of January 1, 2009, the second highest number of games against an opponent will be Boston and Montreal at 696 times and then Montreal and Toronto at 692.

From the Press Notes:

Nicklas Lidstrom’s three points on December 4 against Vancouver moved him ahead of Sergei Fedorov into fourth place on the Red Wings all-time scoring list with 956 points. He trails Gordie Howe, 1,809, Steve Yzerman, 1,755, and Alex Delvecchio, 1,281.

The Red Wings currently have the NHL’s best road record at 10-2-2. They were the second best road team in 2007-08 (25-12-4) and set an NHL record for road wins with 31 in 2005-06.

Andreas Lilja was named the Carhartt "Hardest Working Player" for the month of November. He leaddsthe Wings with 26 penalty minutes and 38 blocked shots. He is second on the Wings with 46 hits. He set a career best with points in four consecutive games from November 17 through November 24.

Yep, and this makes it even EASIER to hate the 'hawks.

Story of Blackhawks compassion

In the middle of a grueling six game road trip where a very young

hockey team is away from home, the third game of the trip ends late on a

cold Canadian Saturday night. This is the only break on the trip and the

three days between games allow them the only break to get back home in

their own beds for a couple of days before going back on the road. A scheduled

commercial flight waits for them at Toronto’s International Airport for the

short flight home; they could be home by midnight. This plane departs on schedule,

but without a single member of the hockey team.

Back in the locker room a vote is taken after the game was complete,

and a unanimous decision is made by this young team to skip this flight and stay one more day.

They make arrangements to check back in the hotel and on a frozen Sunday morning charter two buses that have no heat and begin a journey two hours straight north into a sparsely inhabited Canada, but where hockey is its passion. They arrive at their destination to the surprise of

the teams general manager who is there attending his fathers wake.

After a few emotional hours, this team boards the buses and head back for a two-hour trip back to Toronto. On the way they ask the drivers to stop in a tiny Canadian town because they are hungry.

To the shock of the patrons and workers at this small hockey town McDonald’s, a professional team

walks out of two rickety buses and into the restaurant, which just happens to have pictures of two members of this team on its wall. The patrons know every single one of these players by sight being fanatic fans of hockey in these parts. One can only imagine their amazement of the locals seeing and

entire professional hockey team sit down and have a meal in their tiny little town in the middle of a hockey season. After a while they board the buses and catch their same flight 24 hours later, giving one day to their general manager.

Have I made this up, is this an excerpt from some fictional book? No this a true story of the Blackhawks last Saturday night and they decided to attend Dale Tallon’s fathers funeral. Its amazing that such a good story can be found nowhere on the internet, and not even mentioned in the Chicago

papers.

Had one of the Blackhawks got into a fight and punched some drunken loser in a Toronto bar it would be plastered all over papers and the television.

This being said, its hard to imagine any professional football, basketball or baseball team doing this, but the members of the Blackhawks claim any “hockey” team would have done this. This is one reason I continue to be a big hockey fan, and another reason I am excited about this Chicago

team.

I thought I would share as this story appears to have gone unnoticed.

It is certainly good for the league to have good teams in Chicago and New York. A few years ago that was the problem in the league. You had bad the best teams in places like Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Anaheim, and New Jersey, etc. It is no wonder ratings were so low!! Hopefully this will help turn things around.

man, get over it, if it such a big deal, take one extra fraction of a second to look in the topic starter box and see "hey its that DRWexaminer guy, i dont like his posts", then refrain from reading it. coming in and posting not once, but twice, about how his post bothers you is making you look like an ass. your acting like its your website. im sure the owner has seen his posts, and until he tells DRW to stop, then you shouldn't be worrying about it.
