I can't believe I just spent the last 3 hours listening to Pierre McGuirre performing fellatio on the entire Calgary Flames organization.

He's lucky Lilja didn't hear what he was saying the whole game, or he would have gone over there and beat McGuirre's ass.

Yes. I hope Babcock keeps those lines on Friday.

Cleary has been amazing lately.

I'm so glad he took the time off for his eye. Its done wonders.

And what about Datsyuk? Hes become somewhat of a gritty player. Hits, screens the net, etc.

For those of us who watched the game on TSN... did it surprise you that Pierre McGuire found time to commentate considering his lips were plastered to the ass of the Flames all night? Man that was annoying.

It was, but he's been worse. Also, did you know that David Moss played for the University of Michigan and often played at JLA?

lol, Pavel is turing into a grinder. Not really, but doing the dirty things more consistently just makes him a better player.

Conks played well in my opinion. Two of the three that were let in were bad breaks. The puck was going wide and deflected off Dats' stick. And the other goal that was going wide but deflected off his glove?

McGuirre says that about any team Detroit is playing, Not a bad game Wings seemed to pick it up in the third again, Hossa, Zetterberg and Cleary looked really good. Conklin played well tonight, would have been nice if he could have stopped the third goal but he looked solid.

Wow. Babs finally ******* sums it up! Anyone else catch that? Lets get some footage of that.

"Sometimes you get too caught up in how skilled you are and forget that you have to compete and win battles..."

Thats what Ive been saying all along. Bring back Drake! Hell change a few things...or Forsberg. Same type of player.

I can think back to Bert's lack of accuracy and Lids stick-in-the-way as to possibly keeping this game within reach of the Wings. As TSN mentioned Lids is logging a lot less ice time, likely due to age finally catching up to him, and while he may not win the Norris this year, plays like that are what makes him still an All-Star and a good example.

The Wings at the deadline though really need to pick up some sort of checking forward to raise some hell. I'm having flashbacks to playoff seasons against teams like Calgary where the Wings were physically beaten to a pulp and rendered ineffective by a lack of attitude that they had all last playoffs.

Wings are the only team in the league that can play for half a game and still win.

I will tell you what this feels like, falling behind and then winning. I remember last year when Mike Hart called MSU Michigan's "little brother", because Michigan fell behind in the game and then came back and won. He said that they were just playing with them like a little brother, letting them feel like they are beating you and then winning. Perhaps the Wings have big brother syndrome.

we're living in cap era.

Hossa wants it badly but the the rest are obviously relaxing. Even Hossa caliber player can't create something in lockeroom so...conclusion is obvious.

And they do not have a slot in team for new forward anyway.

But I'm fully aware that reasonable posts won't keep away usual trade deadline hysteria.

Please never again liken the Wings to Mike Hart. :puke: ;)

Conks played well enough to win. I didn't think he was great, but he played much better than the last few games, so hopefully our goaltending is on the upswing. :)

McElhinney played a good game, but I'm going to go ahead and discredit it because every rookie backup plays well against Detroit. Nothing new here.

Huh?

Have you ever seen EITHER of those players play hockey?

The sentence 'Same type of player.' can only accurately be applied to those two is that they finished their NHL careers playing primarily as a winger for the team they started their career as a center for, but they played all three forward positions in their career and did it over a career which spanned both conferences.

The differences? Drake was always primarily a defensively elite player who laid bone-crushing hits and was capable of scoring in his best years, and was very good on faceoffs. He played all three positions at various times on Winnipeg's first line during the 1995-96 season. But he was always a supporting player offensively, whose primary role was to open space or to serve as the defensive safety valve, a role he filled quite well.

Forsberg, on the other hand, was one of the more physically aggressive playmakers the league has seen in recent years, but he was never in Drake's class physically or defensively. The closest comparison to a prime Forsberg in today's NHL is Joe Thornton, a physically imposing center who is defensively aware but not elite, someone who is an elite playmaker and a decent goal-scorer. The primary differences between Thornton and Forsberg are Thornton is more durable and more physically capable, while Forsberg had a slightly higher level of peak talent, especially when it came to clutch performance.

Drake was a completely different type of player.

Two words describe Pierre McGuirre best, "Canadian Homer". Thank you to the man who decided to put a mute button on the tv remote. Pierre's a Tool!

that was awesome! 3 goals to win it... typical wings game lol why have goal tending as long as you can keep scoring

The goaltending was fine. It was the shoddy, lazy Defense which was the problem....
