As if we need another reason to want to crush San Jose

If it were any other team I'd ******* hate them.

However, knowing the Sharks style of play and mentality, the reason is very likely that it's a two way contract to call him up when they play goonish teams throughout the season like Analheim to send a message that they won't be run over just because they're winning on the scoreboard.

I wanted this to happen. He's hated by everyone, save for some players on Colorado. Let him play in some NHL games, he's probably so slow that Mac or Cheli could light him up like it was 97. This makes the next time we play San Jose very interesting.

Anaheim are a bunch of fraidy little ***** cats now. This is a move to call him up for this season's games against Detroit and the playoffs. They know they can't win on the scoreboard against the Wings, so they're calling up this perennial turtling-hitter-from-behind because Tootoo costs too much in a trade.

Seriously, are teams taking unhealthy runs at guys like Setoguchi and Marleau? I must be missing that in the highlights.

maybe he will cause problems and ruin team chemistry haha

It could happen. That's why a lot of people wont mess with a good thing.

I agree with others that have said he's a play off / wing / duck plan b. If you can't beat them BEAT them.

I don't see how this move is against Detroit. The Sharks know they can beat the Wings in a speed/skill/physical game. They don't need Lemieux to send any messages to this team. I'll gladly eat crow in a few weeks if I turn out wrong. Indeed the Sharks do take s*** from Anaheim (it's a pretty intense rivalry they have, and I'm sure you know of Anaheim's antics, which they haven't ceased this season), and not only during the season, but even the playoffs, have been tired of dealing with Nashhell's crap. I'm sure there are other teams who fit the bill as well I just think there's no more prominent than those two the Sharks have in mind. Not the Wings.

I highly doubt there is any connection whatsoever that this move is solely a ploy against the Detroit Red Wings. Lemieux wants to make a comeback, the San Jose organization is giving him a chance, nothing more or less.

Now, would I like to see a little nostalgia from the 90s regarding all the Lemieux drama in the remaining 2 games against the Wings? Absolutely. Definitely not holding my breath waiting for it to happen though.

The man is 43, the article there gave little/no indication that he's going to be playing with the Sharks anytime soon (the Sharks themselves, not minor league affiliates), and even after his Colorado years the few times the Wings saw him in New Jersey and Dallas (stint there was brief, did they even meet up when Lemieux was a Star?) not much happened in terms of big hits or drama. Wouldn't expect that to change now at least on the ice.

1. It IS a two way contract

2. Yes he's old and there probably will be minimal impact from this move

3. H has to clear waivers first (like anyone else would claim him)

4. Believe it or not wings fans, it's not always about you! :)

Just teasing with #4. The Sharks are fairly beat up at the moment. Pavelski isn't healthy. Michalek isn't healthy. JR isn't healthy. Mitchell hasn't played yet this season. Cheechoo isn't healthy. Every night we're playing McGinn, Cavanagh, Plihal....have you heard of them? Probably not. They need depth. An experienced voice in the locker room can't hurt either. Regardless, this move will barely make a blip on the hockey radar.
