Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 (edited) http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=261768&lid...s=topStory_main Eastern Conference - Malkin, Crosby, Kovalev, Komisarek, Markov, Price Western Conference - Kane, Toews, Getzlaf, Niedermayer, Campbell, Giguere Wow. I havent seen anything from Niedermayer or Giguere that qualifys them as allstars, oh other then their names, because that's the only reason they got in. Crosby and Malkin are deserving, and Kane to an extent, but I dont think Toews is, not this year. He didnt even start scoring goals until a month or two into the season. I think we can all agree the ASG is a pretty big joke, espicially after this, hopefully the skills competition is entertaining.. Tr!PoD#19 524 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 Pretty much retarded, as expected.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 good. as long as Wings players stay away from this joke I'm fine. I'd rather see them having more rest and fuel in the tank in April-June than waste their nrgy in this dumb marketing gimmick which is so easy to be spoiled

thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 Having only four teams represented by the ASG starters will do little to grow the product in the US. But hopefully, no WIngs will go and they can all get a nice break.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 Whats funny about this is, the NHL is proud that fans voted "Often". It's such a joke. Montreal is 5th in the east, Pittsburgh is 9th in the East, Chicago is 4th in West, Anaheim 6th. Really, the only people who deserve to be their are Kane, Toews, and Malkin. It's a popularity contest. This sounds like the worst All-Star starting line up in decades. No Ovechkin, no Thomas, no Datysuk? I don't really care that the Wings aren't their (even though Lidstrom and Datsyuk should be starters), but besides Malkin, no one else statistically deserves to be their. Yzermania 156 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 why does everyone say "good, they can get some rest" etc etc. The all star game is no hard labor. As much of a joke as everyone looks at it as, alot of the players think it's an honor to go and enjoy the experience. Personally, I like seeing our guys go to the game. As rigged as it may be and as much of a publicity stunt as it is, it's really not as bad of an event as you all make it seem to be. Sure it could be put together a little better, but it is still a traditional game played (almost) every year in the nhl.
lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 Mike Komisarek has played in 21 games, has 1 goal, 1 assist, and is +2 ... may as well give him the Norris now. Perhaps this is all part of a new NHL feel-good campaign ... see kids, in the new NHL, everyone gets to be an All Star!

I certainly like the concepts of All-Star games in any professional sport, I'm definitely not against having them. While I certainly don't mind seeing Wings guys play in them either, we all witnessed or read how fradulent the process was for selecting the All-Stars this year, with ridiculous multiple votes. Limit the "popularity contest" aspect of it to a good degree and I am 100% right there with you on your thoughts.

Took his family to the Caribbean. That's genuine good rest for a player mid-season. And you all are wrong when you say "I hope no Wings go", because unfortunately they will go. Lidstrom, Datsyuk and probably BOTH Zetterberg and Hossa will go, but not as starters, and that's an insult. I'd much rather they got some extra days off. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 (edited) This further justifies the NHL ASG is a complete joke. I had little interest to begin with and now there is no chance I will be watching. Edited January 3, 2009 by GoWings1905
BlackhawksFan 4 Report post Posted January 3, 2009 Oh boy, a popularity contest. It's just which fans want it more. Campbell as a starter? No way. Fans shouldn't be voting on the all star game.

19Hockeytown5 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2009 To add to what I said previously, there is also no one from Washington, Philly, New York, or Calgary. So basically the top 7 teams have no starters. This showcase of the games best has turned into an embarressment for the league. I won't be watching either.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 4, 2009 I haven't watched in years, since it became a joke of a PR stunt, badly handled from stem to stern. The *all star* game is just an event, albeit fun (maybe) for some of the guys. It's a goalie's nightmare, so I doubt they really enjoy it all that much. Anyway, our players are such good guys, they probably will show up if asked. Quite a few last year, including the actual starting and second voted-in goalies, declined to participate. I thought more of them, for that. They both had family issues and injuries to attend to. I wish all of our players would sit it out, personally. The All Star Sham is the antithesis to the Winter Classic, IMO. That was a show worth watching. I am glad I tuned in and recorded it. Even some of my non-hockey fan friends checked it out and declared it awesome. Should I tell the NHL?

So what exactly are the resting for, for the first shift? that essentially has nothing to do with what I intended to say. I want Wings players to have some rest during the break. like get a couple of free days to visit their European families for example or make a trip to some nice warm country in South America. just to get their minds clear before the second half of the season. the fact that no Wings was voted as starter does increase the chance of our guys missing this dumb event. sure some of them will travel to this game and not have a rest. but it's good to see at least 5 spots already taken
