Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 So, trade me, or keep the one he got from the team? Why not just give the kid his stick back. If the kid wants to give you the one from the team, great. Otherwise, buzz off. You committed a misdemeanor (i think) in accepting stolen property. I don't think it's illegal unless he knew it was stolen at the time he purchased it. From the sound of it, he would have had no idea until just very recently. Then again, I'm no legal expert... In any case, very glad to see this whole situation come to a close in a good way. Just stinks that the ****** who stole it got a profit in the end. I hope he fails to report it on next years taxes, and the IRS audits him... I'm sure he didn't just shell out two cents for the stick (he did double his offer). He was also buying it from someone in a security guard outfit, it's not like it was some bum. I wonder if you'd be willing to give up your most prized sports item for potentially nothing. Not his most prized sports item. His WIFE'S. That's way worse. esteef 2,679 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 That's great he's going to get the stick back to the kid, but the fact that this ******* clown from Wrigley openly said he was going to sell the stick on eBay knowing he stole it only pisses me off more. I really feel like the owners of the stadium should be actively trying to find out who this guy was and have him fired. Haha! No s***! There's probably a security camera somewhere in Wrigley that caught that f***** walking around with it. Maybe they can get a good look at his face and try and figure it out. Get him! :judge: esteef

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 ^ Even better! What a great ending to a horrific story. It's nice knowing there are still people out there willing to do the right thing. Bobby Pappert is out money, Lori Pappert is without what she thought was "her" Winter Classic-used Zetterberg stick, and yet they didn't even think twice about doing the right thing. Booster313 138 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 (edited) Am I the only one who thinks it would be very nice of the kid to send the replacement to the man who paid 100.00 for his stolen stick and then gave it back for nothing? esteef 2,679 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 Am I the only one who thinks it would be very nice of the kid to send the replacement to the man who paid 100.00 for his stolen stick and then gave it back for nothing? True, but all the signatures on it are probably addressed to the little kid, so to Pappert it's somewhat tainted. But hell, it's part of a great story now so I'd still take it if the kid was offering. esteef

I really think it would be nice, and the right thing to do. But, I won't fault the kid if he doesn't send it to the guy. Hell, the guy should have known something was wrong to be able to buy a game used stick for $100 in the bathroom. I really hope they do catch the "security guard" and let the kid beat him with the stick.

Gizmo 21 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I think that if I were the kid's Dad, I would have "guided" him a little more to make the "right" decision. The guy didn't have to come forward with the fact that he had the stick. But he did the right thing by doing so. But if the Hawks hadn't come through, due to the kid the guy would now be out $100. I'd had told the kid "Look, you wouldn't have gotten the signed stick if you hadn't had the other one taken. Why don't you show some gratitude and give the nice gentleman the stick? Look, if you want a Z autograph that bad I'll buy a signed card off of eBay for $20. I think you're being a little greedy here. He did the right thing, how about you doing the same?" 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Since the replacement was autographed to the kid, I can see why he kept it. At that age, you probably wouldn't understand why someone would want a stick addressed to someone else. I'm not even sure why I would, unless it was antique (say, Sawchuck or something) and you would never get a chance to have your own autograph from that person. Still, if I had been the kid's dad, I would have reimbursed the guy for the stick, the postage, and gotten him some sort of gift for his trouble and honesty (like really good tickets to a game or something big). Plus, the guy did say that the kid could keep both sticks if he wanted. Can't go back once it's been said. Kudos to the Hawks for giving the guy the Kane stick. Very classy on their part.
