seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Definitely not worth a suspension. He just kind of pushed Parise away with his elbow. It wasn't nice, but it wasn't vicious either.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) Yep. Pronger went with the arms a little bit but Parise there needed to use the basic theme of "keep your head up". Look I question a lot of Pronger's hits but this isn't one to be seriously blown out of proportion, at least from just the video evidence seen in here (which isn't much to start with). Pronger has done worse and little or nothing should result from this if it is reviewed by the league at all, unless better video evidence can be used. hillbillywingsfan 794 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 well the way the league has been doing he should get aleast 2 games for that. and if he called him sloppy seconds while he hit him he should get 10 games. there is no need for that kind of goonery. hahahahahahahh give me a break. i don't like pronger just as much as the next guy....NORMAL next guy. some go overboard. but it looked fine to me. its hockey. look how low the guy was to pronger. he was pushing a kid aside. nothing more. #19forPresident! 1 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) hey look another pronger is a goon thread who would of thought i know no one said the word yet but just give it time... Come on DuckGuy! You aren't exactly fresh meat around here so I think you get why there is not much Pronger tolerance, I mean you have to understand most of us have seen his BS first hand since he was a noobie, he only spent 2 years in Hartford and then his next 9 with a Blues team that at the time was a talented division rival. We have plenty of not so pleasant memories.....like the time he went for Yzerman's knee, which he fortunately missed..... I mean that's like going for Gretzky's knee.....Well in MY book it's worse, but you get the idea..... And trying to test the glass in Anaheim with Homer's face ..... It's not just limited to to Red Wings either.... There's the time he was suspended for cross checking Pat Peake in the throat in 95'..... Or slashing Jeremy Roenick in the helmet...... Or his elbow from behind on Selanne in 01' playoffs..... Or stomping on Ryan Kesler's leg with his skate..... Or headshotting Dean McAmmond in the 07' Finals..... Or Yada yada, the list of incidents where he has tried to "nullify" key players from accomplishing their key roles goes on indefinitely, fortunately for me there's not enough word space here to complete it lol...... Having said that, I know he's on your team, and I respect your support for them..... BUT.... If you were a guy who was blessed with his kind of size and physical prowess and you used it to try and pull "career enders" on other guys, much less legendary players, then there should be no surprise when you earn the title of goon.....And that's the polite term for him, I'm sure we all have our favorites we save for our living rooms...... Frankly it still disgusts me to know his name is on the Stanley Cup, I usually root for the team that beats us in the playoffs but he was the reason I didn't in 07' Edited January 12, 2009 by #19forPresident! He went to hit Yzerman, Stevie got mostly out of the way and Pronger ended up tearing his ACL. But over the years the story has somehow become that Pronger was going after Yzerman's knee. Zion 93 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 "QUOTE (mindfly @ December 26, 2008 - 07:33PM) * It will be fun to get dominated by the blackhawks in back-to-back games, especially in the winter classic game on national television." Wow, I was going to post something about the Pronger incident (yet another), but this totally derailed me. Amazing.

Opie 308 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Talk about Mountain out of a mole hill!! I thought the AO hit of a couple of weeks ago was a suspend able offense, but this is two guys skating into one another and the bigger one winning! Sure contact with the arm/elbow/shoulder or whatever may have occurred but unintentionally. Now usually I would be quick to point a finger at Pronger and call him a goon, but not this time!! Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Any hit Pronger gives out should be given second looks due to his his history. That hit however, didn't look all that bad.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 I'd take Pronger over any one of our defensemen in his prime. You know Lidstrom's still on the team, right? I'd take Pronger over everyone but Lidstrom in his prime. Lids isn't as scary to play against physically, but for my money I'll take the best defenseman in the league who plays 28 minutes a game 80+ games a year. Opie 308 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) I wouldn't take Pronger over a prime Chelios either... no way. As this thread developed I thought of the comparison thread and how it should be Pronger V Stevens. But I also agree with this statement. And to the argument that is coming about the Hart, I would argue that cheli (edit)should could have a Conn Smythe to his name!! chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Good call. I wouldn't take the goon period. The guy has been suspended 8 frickin' times. There is no place in the NHL for guys like that. I have no problem with hard clean hits or fighting but no thanks on the dirty hits 8 times!

Opie 308 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 It's hard to say.. his prime was so damn long ago. my memory is that he wasn't as different from Pronger as some people here like to think. A few differences: Cheli was Gordie Howe dirty, in the corners close s***. Pronger is Chris Simon dirty, stepping on people, elbows to the face with distance, not right under your chin, 'three feet away and skating' distance. Cheli played in a much more physical era of Hockey in his prime than Pronger's prime. Cheli would answer for any of his transgressions from any one, not just an enforcer on another shift, some one then and there would take care of what he did. Biggest difference: The definition of dirty has changed and the league has cracked down on a lot of the things cheli did, slashes, spears, butt ending, ... the stuff in the corners. Cheli then changed his game, coincidently just as he got a little older and less full of piss and vinegar. The league has cracked down on Pronger's type of actions, stomping, elbowing, head hunting, however they have cracked down harder on others than they have Pronger. Even if the other offense happened before his and set a precedence.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 This wasn't that bad at all. Zach and Pronger would have run into each because Parise was heading right into him with his head turned. It only looks dirty because Pronger pushes him with his elbow after he hit him. Not suspension worthy in the least bit, not really that dirty since they were going to run into each other. Pronger Physics just made it look worse than it was, if it was that bad Zach and the whole Devil's bench would have at least showed some emotion after that hit.
