Worst Hockey Logos

Only one off the top of my head that I really don't like much is Buffalo's current logo. The swords and the animal on their former red/black/white jerseys were great works of art. I still like the coloring of their jerseys, not the new animal look though.

Haha.

Man that Vancouver Voodoo team makes no sense at all and the logo sucks. Then there's the Denver one:

deninv64.gif

Denver Invaders - WHL - 1963-64

When the pioneers of this great land first arrived they encountered many hostile injuns who carried tomahawks and rode on hockey sticks that were painted to look like horses.

Not only is it pretty offensive to Native Americans (may as well call another team the Lakota MountRushmores) it's just a stupidly named team.

One that's just simply funny, and the creators of this team's name must have been high or something:

macwho97.gif

Macon Whoopee - 1997

Macon Whoopee. Get it? Making Whoopee. There's nothing like playing for a team whose name is a bad pun. The way the M and the W mirror each other and throw the balance off on this bastardized Maple Leaf logo is truly painful. You know the Whoopee are out for a good time.

Damn that site is funny.

Ahhhh...the Victoria Salsa...oh the memories....From day one of getting the team the name and logo was the laughing stock and the topic of many jokes around this city. It would be like Illitch changing the name of the Wing's to the Detroit Pizza's !! The site says that it is still the present name but the for the love of god they changed the name of the team a couple of years ago to the Victoria Grizzlies which (a) makes for a better name and logo and (b) makes alot more sense for this area of the world !!

Great site...thanks for the laugh !!

Vancouver Canucks. What the heck is that "C whale" logo anyways? It's as far from a hockey logo as Avery is from a gentleman who doesn't kiss and tell.

It's in the style of the art made by NW Coast indians. It's a globally recognizable art style that the region is famous for and unlike the Voodoo (or the stick, flying V, or skate logos, for that matter) actually gives the team something resembling of a local/regional identity.

Funny you mention it actually, I'd say the whale logo is easily the best one Vancouver has ever had and would say their generic stick logo is one of the NHL's worst.

Honorable mention also goes to the Sabre's retro jersey, I have no idea why so many people have such an aesthetic boner for that thing. Someone elsewhere on the internet made a pic a few weeks ago of a Red Wings logo done in that style where a wheel was floating over a set of disembodied wings in a white red-ringed void, I wish I had saved it since it served as a perfect analogy for why that Sabres' logo looks so stupid.

Without a doubt, The Islanders Fisherman's logo they used from 1995 to 1997. Thank goodness they went back to the original logo!!

It took me YEARS to finally figure out that the orange toilet-bowl stripe in that logo was actually an outline of Long Island and not something created by Pollock.

I've gotta say, that logo is an overbusy mess IMO. You've got the location name, the team name, the Long Island map, the stick, the puck, all fighting for space in that little circle. The fisherman was hardly a masterpiece but I've never had the gag reflex-tickling reaction everyone seems to adamant to give it.

Without a doubt the Ducks current logo is the worst, simply because they have no logo.

At least the teams on that website get a passing grade for trying. The Ducks didn't even try to make a logo with these most recent jerseys.

That was a great website, BTW.

I always hated the rink-and-stick one more than the whale one. They oughta bring back the flying skate is what they should do.

Maybe they felt like they should quit while they were ahead:

You know what I find amusing about that logo is that the duck on the jersey is not wearing the jersey that the duck is on. :P

I always thought the Stars 3'rd jersey logo was absolute failure. What is that supposed to have to do with hockey? Some sort of bull that is seeing stars?? Like he got hit over the head maybe? Or perhaps a connect-the-dots kinda thing? Pure capitalism...

The jerseys they had before the current style were atrocious as well. The new style is actually very nice...

Doesn't have much to do with hockey, but I like it. It's local, in the vein of other Texas teams, and the stars are for the constellation.

Again, not hockey related, but it's a pretty cool logo, I always thought.

EDIT: And, to be brutally fair, what does a flying wheel have to do with hockey?

On a random side noet, I always thought it was stupid when teams were named after a weather condition, and their logos almost always will fall into the "worst logo ever" category.
