Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I love how the NHL puts crappy players in the ASG so that everyone has a representative, but then don't even bother to replace Datsyuk with Hossa or Zetterberg so that the Stanley Cup Champions have 0 players. Way to go NHL!
akustyk 84 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I love how the NHL puts crappy players in the ASG so that everyone has a representative, but then don't even bother to replace Datsyuk with Hossa or Zetterberg so that the Stanley Cup Champions have 0 players including no Conn Smythe Trophy winner corrected that for ya! again: who cares. Baby Crosby is there to orgasm about. enough to broadcast this s***ty contest
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I find it really bizarre that they need representation from every team but when two guys can't go then they replace them with guys from other teams! LOL Especially a crappy team like Dallas, which has had a horrendous season so far, and yet they have at least 2 guys in the ASG right now.
Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Especially a crappy team like Dallas, which has had a horrendous season so far, and yet they have at least 2 guys in the ASG right now. maltbymaniac 13 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 why does "one of the biggest fan bases in the nhl" only have 2 people going anyways? imust of overlooked somthing.
Guest DetroitBoy313 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I think the superskills competition is the best part of the ASG.I'm not a big fan of the game itself,if I'm home I'll watch it if I end up doing something else I won't be.
diehardredwing19 11 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 it would be awesome! if some redwings fans actually went to the ASG, and started chanting "We Want Redwings!" ... lol i wish i cudve did that if i was going
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted January 21, 2009 Now that there are no Red Wings, let's see how many Wings fans (aka one of the biggest fanbases in the NHL) actually watch. I'm a die-hard combination Wings fan/Hockey fan.... I'll watch the ASG and Skills competition, any regular season game, and all playoff games possible regardless of Red Wings content
Yzersyukstromberg 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 I didn't think you were able to skip the game due to injury unless you actually miss time before or after the game (i.e. Lidstrom did not and pressumably he won't after either). That rule isn't official. It's an unofficial 'rule'....Steve Mason of the Blue Jackets canceled his appearance in the Young Stars game, yet continued to start games for the Jackets after the announcement. DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 How is it that we have no representation? Who picks the replacements? While I don't mind seeing our team getting rest. How is it that Hossa did not get the bid for a replacement? Considering every team needs representation. The way the NHL works sometimes is so stupid. WingNut 25 5 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Well I was pissed when I first heard this and said to myself, "Every team must be represented huh?" but then it hit me. Since the Wings last game before the break was last night, I guarantee the league asked Hossa or Rafalski (the next likeliest Wings to go) but they turned down the invite because it was so last minute. I'm guessing no one wanted to give up their AS break plans so last minute. That really is the only thing that makes sense to me.

How is it that Hossa did not get the bid for a replacement? Considering every team needs representation. The way the NHL works sometimes is so stupid. There's speculation on KuklasKorner that Hossa and Rafalski were asked to fill in for Datsyuk and Lidstrom, but there isn't any proof to it, just speculation... Anywho. Good, says I. The All Star Game is a joke anyways. Glad to see that we're more in favor of resting up the important guys than a game that has zero meaning. Just gives me one more reason NOT to watch. Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 I wasn't watching anyway, and this basically solidified it for me. If the game was in Detroit, I might watch, but probably not for long. Maybe one day the ASG and SuperSkills contest will be interesting again and myself and others like me will watch it again. Until then, enjoy your vacations boys. alienanxiety 23 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 the "all-star game" should be shifted to after the season, say late-August. call it the NHL Summer Classic, and have it be the Stanley Cup Champs vs. NHL Stars or Stanley Cup Champs vs. the best European team or all-stars. i know i'm usually hockey starved by the end of august. and i'd still say the NHL should take a 5 day break at mid-season, just to let bodies recover. TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 22, 2009 I wish the game was purely stats based. I'm a big fan of stats, if I could, I would stare at game sheets hours a day. The stats don't lie, the stats are unbiased. Fans on the other hand, are biased, and most are pretty stupid. Just stick the players with the best stats as the all-stars. Maybe this wouldn't work, maybe it would. But I hate the fact that players having off years still make the all-star game purely on reputation alone. It actually kind of bothers me no Wing will be in the All-star game based on principle. I'll probably watch it because it's on at a convenient time, but other then that, I don't care who scores, who wins. It's mad meaningless. More then that, this year, half the players actually playing, kind of suck really. Why the hell does Anaheim have 4 players in the game? They suck, and are playing awful. I mean, sure the fans voted these guys in, but 4 players, 4? 4? 4? 4? 4? Come on, give me a break for once. I don't want to watch a bunch of washed up Anaheim players. I also don't want to watch Malkin, Crosby and their awful goalie play. How the hell does a team have two leading scorers and a team in 10th place. This is not an All-star game at all. San Jose versus Detroit last weekend was the real all-star game. Maybe it has something to do with me hating every team in the East. I just cheer for Florida because I want to see Crying Crosby and his team of losers miss the play-offs. Ovechkin at least is someone to cheer for. Other then that, how could anyone get excited about this game? They should at least make it mildly interesting by having NA versus the World. What's to cheer for? The fans, and the NHL have made a mockery of this once exciting event.
Cern 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) In other ASG news, Crosby - the all-time voting ballot record-holder - is not going to play due to injury. This is going to be a disasterous ASG. Edited January 23, 2009 by Cern

I agree. They do it in football. Who wants to risk injury to their star players during the season anyway. Granted they don't play as hard but the risk is still there. Move the ASG to sometime after the season is over. Rest up wings!!!
