Nicklas Lidstrom, no charisma?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

CKAC Sports french play by play guy Martin McGuire said this morning that it doesn't matter if Lidstrom is not at the all star weekend because anyway, he has no charisma.

Nick Lidstrom no charisma?

WTH???

Certainly one of the most imbecile comment that I've heard in a long time...

Eh, I think Ken Campbell's article on The Hockey News is worse.

Basically, he's saying Lidstrom is disrespecting the game and bares no interest in whether Nick is actually injured. I just don't get it, there is no one who speaks of the experience of attending an All-Star Game with more reverence than Lidstrom, who always called it it a huge honor to play in.

The only reason this is happening is because of this new rule.

I called on the air and asked host Martin Lemay who has more charisma than Lidz then and his answer was Dion Phaneuf.

"Céline Dion" Phaneuf more charismatic than Captain Lidstrom?

Oh well...I must be missing something...

French Canadians need to shut their mouth, because they've cheapened the entire ASG by voting in undeserving players from their team.

WHo cares what this moron said? The whole league doesn't have charisma, other than Sean Avery, who the league suspended for making fun of some girl.

The rest of the hockey world is thanking Bettman for this wonderful opportunity to bash the Red Wings and Nik Lidstrom, because Lidstrom has really had this comeing all these years, and deserves all this bad-mouthing for disrespecting the game, the fans and his fellow hockey players. It's about time he stopped getting away with it.

I'm not sure if that's entirely true but Nick could care less if people say he has no charisma. He has the utmost respect from every single coach and defenseman in the league. The forwards respect him too, but in a different way because they hate playing against him. His value isn't in regards to cheap appeal and charisma.

Good points, all of you. Dr. Sapirstein, , I'm luvin' it. GMR, you're spot on. The ASG has been a sorry excuse for a showcase for a long time and the Wings have played along with the silly dog and pony show just to support the NHL, and now this? Lidstrom's been Mr Cool Norris Nick for all these years, he's 38 and after working at one of themost intense, emotionally and physically demanding jobs, he gets less timeoff than my Fiancee does from her job. He's fecking injured for pete's sake. The league can feck awph when the WIngs win the cup.

Then there's this crap: The anti-Lidstrom crowd cause its getting boring that he's so perfect and awesome. Pisses me off.

I don't think the league wants to piss off the sleeping giant. But I hope they continue to do just that.

The simple fact is that everyone who is bashing Pav and Lidstrom, including that french moron, need to lay off. They are both legitimately injured, but no one seems to care about that. They must automatically be faking injury to get out of the game. Lidstrom has had this problem for years and Pav got injured in the last game before the break. HE DIDN'T EVEN COME BACK OUT ON THE ICE. These people are all f***tards for criticizing injured players. They are all acting like some great injustice has occurred when the only injustice that has occurred continues to be commissioner of the NHL.

I don't know what is the problem with Québec sports medias folks, but all they seem to care about are the Pens, the Avs, the Ducks, the Sharks (oh yeah right, the eternal playoffs chokers...) and the Dallas Stars.

They seem to think that François Beauchemin and Stéphane Robidas are better defenceman only because of the fact that they are "Québécois francophones". Now, I'm a French Canadian myself and this crap really gets on my nerves. I'm known here as Mister Red Wings. I own a personal website on which I praise the Wings. I also call regularely the all sports station CKAC to put things in perspective :

Ducks = only one Cup

Same thing with the Stars

Avs domination era = OVER

Wings are the only power team of the 90's still at the top of the league

Lidstrom = 3rd after Doug Harvey and Bobby Orr for the most Norris Trophy won

...etc.

No need to tell you that I piss people off most of the time and honestly speaking, I LIKE IT!

All this to say that the Montréal fans are not as hockey "connaisseurs" as some people might think...

Nick and Pasha have more class and panache in the nail of their little toes than these media idiots have in their whole bodies, or could ever wish they had.

And this is another reason why I pay no more attention to sports media than necessary, part of their jobs is to create controversy to yank people's chains and piss fans off, and sometimes that makes them look ridiculous. They probably wouldn't even be doing this outside their jobs. Excess fluff like this is not worth my attention and not worth getting me all pissed off.

I've never been so bored in my life watching this skills competition. This is the best the NHL can do? Bad music, bad entrances by the players, boring fastest skating, boring breakaway challenge. Suicide is the only way out.

Who cares. What would you expect from ******* french canadians.

It's awesome what people from Quebec have done for themselves, even people in Europe know how they are. Not a fan of theirs, but everyone gets an all star game, and they made the most of theirs. Nothing wrong with that, except for the fact no one wants to watch Komisarek in an All Star game, he's more of a Game 7 kinda player.

I agree with you. By the way I watched the skills competitions and I must admit that it was very entertaining. What a show put on by Tim Thomas and the rest of the Boston Bruins! It was kinda weird though not seeing one single Wings player. Absurdity at it's best...

Lids has played in 9 straight All-Star games, right? He's barely missed any regular season games in his entire career.

This is not someone with a history of not playing a game because he's feeling a little tired or has better things to do.

That anyone is doubting the fact that he is actually injured and needs the break is ridiculous.

As for the charisma bit, I wouldn't say he's the most charismatic player in the league but there aren't a hell of a lot of players that actually have that much of it.

Looking at the Skills comp today I was struck by how few players there that actually have any of that "star-quality". Lids definitely has more of it than most who were there.

And I really missed guys like Dats, Z, Hossa and hell, even Crosby despite my hatred of him, in the shoot-out competitions.

Some very weird selections this year.. Tkachuk? What the hell.

No charisma in the ASG game? Absolutely. The ASG is end to end action with little to no defense. That’s not Lidstrom’s game.

When the game is on the line who is on the ice wither we are up a goal or down? Who is out there with the oppositions #1 line? 5on3? 3on5?

What ever the situation, when the chips are down, Lidstrom is on the ice. His play is his charisma.

Definition of charisma by dictionary.com:

1. Theology. a divinely conferred gift or power.

2. a spiritual power or personal quality that gives an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people.

3. the special virtue of an office, function, position, etc., that confers or is thought to confer on the person holding it an unusual ability for leadership, worthiness of veneration, or the like.

You show me a person who says Lidstrom has no charisma and I'll show you an idiot.
