Will be nice for Pasha to get to see Las Vegas later this year. Just hope he doesn't gamble away his Selke, Lady Byng and Hart trophies.

I'll put 3 lady Byngs on red.

Do people in Kansas even like hockey? Vegas isn't as important, as people will pay to see anything, and seeing a hockey game in the middle of the desert seems like something they'd pay for.

Seattle seems like a great choice, due to it's close proximity to Calgary, Vancouver, Minnesota and Edmonton. That would make a much better NorthWest division. Colorado could move into the Central if Nashville goes under, or the Pacific is Phoenix goes under.

How so? Is it because all teams should simply be north of Canada only?

Because obviously there's nowhere in the States that gets cold weather too.

***** some more. Nobody cares about hockey in the South, nobody ever will.

No bitching here.

You just confirmed though through these posts in this issue that you are acting like a snob with the whole attitude of hockey should only exist north of Illinois.

I lived just south of Kansas City for close to a year for my job, and was there when the Penguins arena deal situation was up for grabs. This is no lie people, the only person on KMBC that knew of Sidney Crosby was an intern who was attending U of Kansas, so he got to deal with that story. The newspaper was so-so about the story, but it was 99% posting things from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, USA Today or other media sources. The Sprint Center is new, state of the art, beautiful arena, and they are dying to put a pro team in it. Not sure how the NHL would go over there. They just dont follow hockey.

Nothing wrong with gambling and legal hookers. Hell, prostitution should be legal anyway but that's another thread.

I just don't think Vegas is synonymous with hockey. Toronto is where the HOF is, there's a team there....it made sense. But what the hell is out in Vegas for a bunch of rich ath.......

Oh right. Gambling and legal hookers. Never mind.

The same seattle that just lost their NBA team because they wouldn't cough up the money to build a new arena, yeah really smart....

The #1 choice for a new hockey market, outside of south western ontario, is houston. Hockey is proven to be a popular sport in Texas, and Houston is a huge city from which to draw fans and corporate sponsors. The only problem is that Houston knows it, and they aren't going to be stupid enough to give these sweet heart arena deals that the likes of Phoenix, Nashville and Kansas are willing to do.

The fact of the matter is that the best markets have teams. You could work really hard and try to get some capital together to get a team in Houston. And maybe you could somehow get another team into toronto. Both would be difficult to do, and they would probably turn into strong franchises. But it wouldn't solve the leagues problems.

A team like Florida would probably be better off in a city like Winnipeg or Portland. And a move to Vegas could be a good idea or the biggest disaster in sports history, a gamble not worth taking (no pun intended). But they would still rely heavily on revenue sharing and owners with deep pockets. The League would be far better off just contracting to 28 teams or something, and concentrating on building the already existing markets.

Houston has been trying to get a NHL team for sometime, the owner of the Rockets has been trying to get a team. Supposedly Houston was in the mix when it was thought that the Preds might move.

Houston are the fourth largest city in the country, have a NHL ready arena, youth hockey is booming in Texas, they have a ready-made rival with Dallas, and their AHL team is 6th in the league in average attendance. Ahead of cities like Hartford, Albany, Hamilton, and Milwaukee. You know, teams in hockey states. And, they're only an hour and half from me. It would be much easier to catch the Wings when they come to down than driving up to Dallas ;)

Prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas.

No big deal anyway, I'm sure the players will have fun.

I heard somewhere that it wasn't.. but you're right, it is.

Though you'd never know it with all the escort advertising they have.
