Esquire 324 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=264892&...s=topStory_main I guess when he said he was sitting out because his injury was "real" and others just needed "rest" it must have been a pretty serious injury eh? Guess a miracle happened in the 3 days since the ASG! Apologies if this is old and has been covered already.

Legendary D In 03 50 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 He attended the ASG festivities, which was all that was required of either him, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, or anyone else that didn't want to actually play in the game. Word, LDi03
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 OMG, who cares? I wonder, what if people stopped paying attention to him and his world? You think he'd spontaneously combust? I like to hope. He'd call Bettman.

Word, LDi03 Someone hasn't been paying attention This has cemented Bettman and Crosby as steaming piles of manure, in my mind... I take back everything even remotely positive I have ever said about them. Other than that, I am pretty much over it -- this affects teams fighting Columbus and Pittsburgh for the playoffs a lot more than it does the Red Wings. I'm not making a big deal about it because it's Crosby. Don't assume to know what I'm thinking. I'd be making the same comments regardless of the player. It just so happens to be Crosby in this position.
C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 I'm not even sure which one fits here: a. He showed up in Montreal and is therefore allowed to play, or b. His injury, much like Dats and Lids, won't keep him from playing in a game that counts but wasn't worth aggravating in the ASG. Can one of the more "enlightened" among us explain the big deal here? I'm officially done caring about this issue until we lose home ice to San Jose by a point or on a tiebreaker. Back to NHL Network, and that commercial where the guy builds boards around his TV to watch the Penguins beat us for the Cup last year...on second thought, maybe I'll read a book. The point of my post really, was to point out what he had said about his injury in comparison to Lids and Datsy's.

Crosby went and jumped through the media hoops even though he "couldn't" play in the game. if dats or lids would have jumped through the media hoops as well and spent the weekend in montreal, they wouldn't have been suspended. Legendary is right. there wasn't a "special exemption" made for crosby...he followed the rules.
Mike 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Crosby gets to play because he does whatever Bettman tells him to do. If Bettman told Crosby to get down on his knees in front of him, he would.

Legendary is right. there wasn't a "special exemption" made for crosby...he followed the rules. Alrighty then... http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/spo...1b8f2c6&p=1 Lidstrom said he knew he was risking a suspension, though the league refuses to call it that because the players won't be docked their pay. However, the Wings' captain said he was quite surprised to learn of what the Wings players were calling the 'Crosby Rule' of avoiding a ban for just showing up to mingle at the festivities. Team officials also said they were unaware that Pavel Datsyuk and Lidstrom had the option to avoid sitting out if they just showed up for the three days. "I heard it through (media reports of) Sidney Crosby going there and not playing," Lidstrom said. "I heard he wasn't going to be suspended, so that's how I heard. They never called me and told me that." Bettman made up an exception to the rule (that you must PLAY in the game) that just happened to favor a certain someone whose name rhymes with Bidney Gosby. He could have just as easily made an "exception" for anyone able to send over an autographd picture of themselves with the Cup. Granted, that would have been a lot of hoops for Crosby to jump through at the last second, but fair is fair.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Just one question: When, in the history of sports, has a player who was injured and had been replaced EVER been required to just show up for the event? Before Friday, I mean.

HockeytownRN 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) Crosby showed up for the media this weekend claiming he was injured, and IMPLYING that Dats and Lids were NOT injured. He definitely got an excemption from this rule, and further went on to make statements that he should have kept his mouth shut about, BECAUSE he is a captain and in my opinion should at least ACT like he has respect for other captains. I don't care if he was any other hockey player, could care less that it is Sidney Crosby, I think that b/c he is a captain he should have kept his mouth shut. Claiming he was injured and now playing tonight without a second thought is a bunch of crap. He should have been sitting out as PER THE RULE just like Dats and Lids did as he did not play in the ASG. I have no respect for him. Edited January 28, 2009 by HockeytownRN
