Redwings-40-5 11 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 After the way Leino played today I'd like to see him stay with us for a few games... and maybe get some power play time

I think Leino definitely needs to stay for a while, from all I hear there's a chance he goes back to Sweden next year if he doesn't have a spot on the Wings, and this would be a great time to see how he plays with the big boys so we can make and educated decision. Abdelkader and Downey were both solid, if there were no other factors I'd pick Downey, but we know what we get with him, so maybe Abdelkader gets the longer look. Helm I like, but I see no reason to bring him up now, we know what he brings.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 2 games? Are you sure it's not 3? I thought they could do LTIR retroactively. He got injured at PHX and then they had CBJ, DAL and today Warshington. I know it sounds nitpicky but the sooner they get him back the better.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 Holland should get rid of someone (Flipulla) just so these two guys can stay with the team the rest of the year.

Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) Whole team sucks, apart from very few exceptions, they should be punished for their lack of effort. It's pathetic. Not just this 5 game loosing streak, they have been playing like crap from the start. Something needs to be changed. And please don't say regular season doesn't matter and that they will "turn it on" come playoffs. Edited January 31, 2009 by Reds4Life
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 Aw man, I missed seeing Leino play finally? Damnit! Was he everything we hoped he'd be? he scored a fancy, goal-scorers goal, but behind it, read the play perfect (knew hossa couldnt get the pass across) and bang in back hand style. also played very positionally sound and brought great energy. Mike 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 Trade Filppula, keep Leino up. Can Kopecky be sent back to GR? If he can, send him down and bring Downey or Abdelkader up. If you can't send Kopecky down, ride him for the rest of the season and then do not resign him or trade him.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 Aw man, I missed seeing Leino play finally? Damnit! Was he everything we hoped he'd be? He skated well enough and battled pretty hard. He looked like he belonged on a scoring line. It makes you wonder what the playoff roster is going to look like. Helm will be there for sure. Leino fit well enough for you to say that it is likely he could be a regular.

stormboy 47 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 the whole cap situation is frustrating to me. it would be great to bring up some combination of helm, lieno, abdelkader, and downey and scratch guys like malts, drapes, and fil for a few games. a) we would get a better idea of how those guys fit in the lineup and b) it might inspire a bit more work ethic from the aforementioned veterans. Namingway 146 Report post Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) Leino has that touch for scoring that I don't think Helm really has as much of, but then again we'd have to see Leino play a couple more games. I heard that he has had his streaky moments in the AHL but I think from what I've seen I can already say that I would rather have him in the regular lineup instead of Kopecky. I'm just glad Leino got a chance to see some ice time this season. I think if it weren't for that, his chances of going to play in Sweden next season would be higher. He did not get a hat trick like Brunnstrom but I think he did more than enough to show that he's capable of being a regular on the roster. Leino was not able to make up for the absence of Z but he sure as hell kept me on the edge of my seat. I hope we re-sign him next season and have a regular spot for him Edited January 31, 2009 by Namingway
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 Leino looked to have that scoring swagger.. Handled the puck with alot of confidence, i liked what i saw, i was expecting a very tentative and not anything i wanted to see.. But i was pleasently surprised. Abdelkader didn't wow me all that much, He reminded me alot of Cleary out there.. Just a good 3rd line forward who can sub into the top lines if need be.. I think we should let Downey/Abdelkader play against STL. a- they are rough and physical players.. b- blues are a rough physical team.. Last thing we need is exposing Leino to the Blues Goons. I'd like to see Kindl at some point also.. I think he could open some eyes for detroit. Would ass some much needed size to our depleted defense.. Meech/Lebda/Chelios is just sad.. brett 1,029 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 lets just bring the whole 1st line of the GR and make it our 4th line!!
Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 They should bring up a goalie if they can. I'm not saying this because of the way our goalies are playing, it would just be nice to give them some time.
CMatt89 63 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 We've got 5 players ready to come up. Leino, Helm, Erricsson, Abdelkader, and Downey. We've got 5 players that should be ready to be on their way out. Chelios, Maltby, Draper, Kopecky, McCarty. Even though we all would like to see these players swap..It wont happen. I'm curious to see what happens at the deadline and/or in the offseason. I know Holland never wants to shake up the roster this late in the season..but we do need a spark. All the GR players have been seen by the coaches and they have all shown what they can bring to this team. Minus Erricsson. I wonder what will happen to Hudler in the comming months..Franzen and Hossa being the talk of the offseason...has anyone thought maybe Hudler could be playing his way into a trade? I like the guy, he's having a great season...but he will demand more money..who knows what will happen. Downey and Abdelkader brought something we are missing this year, energy..physical play. This year shows how big of a role Dallas Drake played last season. McCarty is done. Are team is in much need of a shake up, but doubtfully, this wont happen at such a late time in the season. We will go into the playoffs probably the same as we are currently.
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 (edited) Loved the energy, hustle, and confidence Abdelkader and Leino displayed. No reason Leino shouldn't have a roster spot, guy is great from what I saw in the preseason and this game. Downey is good for energy but lacks the core hockey skills to justify giving him a spot on the fisticuffs alone in front of other call ups. Really shows just what kind of drag players who are leaching roster spots really are when you realize they are keeping the Leinos and Helms of the system out of the games (that means you Draper, Maltby, and Kopecky). VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 Sounds like even if they don't develop as we hope, Abdelkader and Leino would be great NHL-level 3rd or 4th liners, which woul dgreatly help this team.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 You people make me laugh. That's all I'll say. (Leino is awesome, he needs to stay on the top 2 lines for the duration, everyone else is irrelevant)
