Gretzky

Crying, sniveling ***** he is!!

How many times has Hossa gone to the box for LESS of a hold than he drew late in the game?

What about the 1st 3 penalties the Wings had? VERY marginal at best and were cheesy calls.

...I bet Gretzky wishes that Dan O'Halloren was reffing this game and that was Holmstrom that drug his foot into Bryz's stick on that winning goal! Look at it again, Cleary doesn't enter the crease, but interfere's with Bryz's stick on the winning goal...

...O'Halloren, NO GOAL!

His team is fighting for their playoff lives, of course he's gonna be pissed that he got rung up for a call in the last minute of a game, and sure as hell be fired when that call lost him the game.

Reverse the situations onto the Wings and I think you'll find it's easier to empathize.

He may be justified, but there is something about his face that makes me want to punch it.

It just wouldn't be a true Detroit/Phoenix game if it didn't involve Wayne bitching at the refs. It's hilarious.

Or kicking out some Wings fans behind his bench. Remember that s***? "Oohh look at me, I can point my finger!"

...he did the same thing his entire playing career! Cindy is well on his way as well! I don't think I've seen anyone cry as much as Gretzky until now with Kathy Lee Crosby...

...But yeah, someone should photoshop a couple of his looks tonight, I kept waiting to hear the Joe play a crying baby sound while showing Gretzky on the big screen. That would have been sweet, but we all know that the guy who picks the music at the Joe just isn't that clever or cool...

I've got to agree 100% with HoH here. That was a ticky-tack call that Mickey would've been enraged by if it were called on the Wings.

I'm happy that Nick scored so I can't say I dislike the call. But... I would be doing the same thing as Gretz if they called that on the Wings (see the BS call on Dats that was identical to this situation in the finals against the Pens).

Yeah, I never did hear what the story behind that was. As in what the Wings fans were doing to get narc-ed out by The Great One.

But it was admittedly a pretty a soft call. Those things tend to even out over a long season, so I'm just glad that we took advantage when we got it. No problem with Gretz being pissed though, I would be too.

...or how about the Datsyuk call against Anaheim the year prior that lead to the Neidermeyer goal that killed us?!?!?

Watch him when the Wild play the Coyotes. After the whole incident with Clutterbuck and Yandle, Gretzky HATES Clutterbuck (or at least he appears to from his expressions)...I don't think I really want to get close enough to ever ask him. Last game they played, Clutterbuck scored, you could read Gretzky's lips from the bench when they showed him, and yes, he was red faced and swearing. The Coyotes lost that game, 3-6.

I've only watched him at the bench on Wild games or Wings games, so I can't say what he's like for anything else.

Growing up as a child here in southern Cal, Gretzky was a main reason I started watching hockey. But he is just a frustrated angry person behind the bench. During all of that near the end of the game, I was thinking of this conversation he was having with his self:

(penalty called)

Gretzky: "Um what?

Gretzky: "Are you effen crazy? I am the effen great one!"

Gretzky: "Your a s***ty ref, and not even close to being great or a great one! I am the great one!"

He's a coach. Coaches get pissed off and jockey for their team to get calls from the smallest of things (line changes, faceoff locations) to big things (penalties, time on the clock) in dealing with refs/linesmen. It makes no difference whether or not it was Gretzky or Bowman, if I don't see a coach out there trying to pull some strings I doubt he'll be a coach very long.

You and me both. I could never stand him and now it's even worse. I swear to God, he needs a cheese factory to go with all his whines.

I love watching him blow a fuse on tv, but it's absolutely hilarious to watch it live. Suck it up, ya bum...you're a loser.

Trying to pull some strings? He was abusing the refs after the final horn. In what way is that productive? He had the right to be pissed off, but as a coach he needs to learn to control himself. When he throws tantrums, it sends a message to his players that they have an excuse to lose. They should be focused on one thing - winning, and the fit he threw completely distracted them. It was as good as giving up. They played with a chip on their shoulder and didn't even get the puck into the Detroit zone in turn giving the Wings the easiest finish to a one-goal game all season.

Coaches get pissed and argue all the time, but the good ones control themselves and keep their players focused on the game and not the refs. This is just another example of why Wayne is not a good coach.

I'd pay good money to see you say that to Gretzky's face and see your result.

While seeing Gretzky blow a gasket was obviously entertaining, if the team was reversed in this situation, plenty of people here would be wanting to give Babcock a bear hug for letting the referees have an earful on a call like that late in the 3rd period if it happened to Detroit.
