betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted June 11, 2009 I got my two-or-three-times-yearly dose of the Hawk yesterday. If Verlander wasn't pitching such a gem, there's no way I'd have sat through it, but a Verlander strikeout is a thing of absolute beauty.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2009 GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-ANDERSON!!! What a shot. I dont even care that it was against one of my closers in my fantasy baseball league. That was awesome!

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted June 14, 2009 The MLB draft usually goes more or less unnoticed, but I like that the Tigers picked up Austin Wood. He's the guy who went thirteen innings in the Texas-BC marathon earlier in the NCAA tournament.
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted June 14, 2009 I guess it's baseball season in earnest now. Porcello with the win and two RBIs yesterday. Today? not so good. Let's see which D-Train we get tomorrow.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 14, 2009 what are the tigers going to do with Galarraga? He has been sucking bigtime lately.
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted June 14, 2009 Galarraga was un-unhittable tonight. He'd have someone down 0-2 and looking awkward and they'd still get a hit. With his season last year he was supposed to be the guy who made us forget that Jair Jurrjens for Edgar Rentaria debacle. The Tigers need to give him a chance to get it back. But he's miles from the pitcher he was last year (that pitcher is now inhabiting Edwin Jackson's body). I don't know if last year was a fluke, or if him pitching in the WBC was detrimental, or what. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 Why is Nate Robertson still on this team?
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 17, 2009 Because he invented GUM TIME! If that isn't the reason, I am at a loss. When is the last time he even recorded an out? 4 batters, 2 hits, 2 walks, 4 runs. Not really big numbers... more like little league numbers. Hopefully Jackson can get us a win tonight, he has been money all season.
Hockeytown12 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2009 Why is Nate Robertson still on this team? Because of his giant ass salary. Same with Bonderman, Willis and Maggs.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Willis gets sent to the DL with an anxiety disorder, Maggs gets benched indefinitely to try and look for his missing bat. Alfredo Figaro gets Willis' spot on saturday. 5-2 with a 4.10 ERA and struck out 59 batters in 68 innings in AA Erie.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 I would have thought someone was nuts if they told me before the season that the Tigers would pitch, but not hit, and Magglio Ordonez would be on the bench in June. The Tigers are still an aging, overpaid team at too many positions. Most of the massive contracts on the team are the worst performing players now (Robertson, Willis, Bonderman, Ordonez, Guillen). The best news is the Central Division sucks and the Tigers have three very good starting pitchers and a pretty adequate bullpen on most nights. Big homestand against the Brewers and Cubs. The Twins are going to make a run.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 20, 2009 Great, just when our anemic offense finally gets going, the game is called in the bottom of the 7th lol. at least we pulled out a 10-4 win!

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Sweep! Great Series by the good guys! I especially liked the sunday finale. I have JV and Gallardo for my fantasy baseball team so i was just hoping for a pitchers duel. after Inge hit the homer, i shouted at the tv "ok, no more runs by either team"
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Wow, did the Tigers just do the Cards a favor--drop a series to them and then sweep the Brewers.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Wow, did the Tigers just do the Cards a favor--drop a series to them and then sweep the Brewers. The cards are way better than the brew crew. Cards are a playoff team. Try going thru Carp, Wainwright, Pujols, Ludwick come playoff time. Depending on if the Mets, Phillies, and Dodgers get their team back together....the cards will make it back to the world series.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 23, 2009 I dunno about that, the Dodgers are looking very strong, and they haven't had ManRam for 2 months now. The Mets amd Phillies have been a little slow, and that division is worse than ours. The Cardinals and Dodgers are definitely the class of the NL, and that will be a good CS if they meet. I dont think the dodgers have the pitching. I dont doubt they have the manager to take them there, i just think that they can be beat in a short series. Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted June 24, 2009 Raburn! Inge! That was definitely one of the more exciting wins this season. Glad to see the team bail Zumaya out.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 24, 2009 Inge is the man. He certainly has deserved this success he has had thus far this year. He is a franchise player with his glove, always has been, and this season his bat has shown what a terrific player he really is.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2009 nice win over the cubbies. What does everyone think the Tigers need to do about Ordonez?? Obviously he cannot reach his contractual bonus by getting 135 games or 500 at bats. I heard this on the radio and it makes sense. Leyland put magglio in the 7th hole today and pulled him for defensive reasons later in the game. If he continues with this and gives Magglio a day off every week til the end of the year.....Magglio will have 100-120 games played barring injury and around 450 at bats (figure 2 at bats a game...5 games a week played for 15 weeks) I dont think their will be any takers for Mags from other clubs and i am not sure if the tigers cut him, they wouldnt owe the remaining money. I think that if he fails to reach his incentives, their is a buyout for $3 million to end the contract. I think that would be the wisest course of action because there is no way Magglio can reach his incentives and trigger $18 million for next season alone. Hell that is more than Pujols makes. rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 24, 2009 I love maggs, especially after '06, but I could tell the last 2 seasons that he is really starting to tumble. I am all for getting rid of Maggs, Guillen, and Willis. They are all either injury-prone, or significantly under-performing. The team we have now, plus another OF bat at the trade deadline will do just fine. All we need to do is solidify that back end of our rotation and I really like our chances. Guillen is a liability wherever he plays in the field, Willis has had 1 good game in the 10+ that he has started here, and Magglio is just plain choking this year. Cut the cords and move on with some young studs. We can survive this season without Maggs and Guillen, and we have some good guys like Larish, Clete, Raburn, Omar, and Don Kelley who can and have all stepped up and showed that they can play here. that gives jimmy lee some good options for next season as well. I think they need to clear that up first in order to have money to hand out to free agents to come here. I doubt any of those mentioned names are demanded on the market now so cutting them seems to be a very strong option. Magglio bugs me the most. He never was a strong power threat, but he always seemed to bat for average and get on base. Not even doing that right now. Hell in my season with the tigers in MLB09:the show....magglio has only 11 hrs and 40 rbis at the halfway point of the season. But he is batting .325, Thats fine with me and havent even thought of trading him in that season because he is productive. Oh and I have him batting 6th in the lineup. rwfan007 18 Report post Posted June 24, 2009 Yeah, I didn't mention Bondo and Robertson. I am not sure what to think about Bondo.I think he could be good, but his injuries the past 2 years have really hampered his development and that may have been a blessing in disguise because we were able to get Jackson and Porcello into the rotation, while the tigers may not have made those moves had he been healthy.
