Guest mindfly Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I can honestly say that I wasn't expecting this. I really didn't think we would see Jimmy Howard in Detroit unless there was an injury... From what I saw at the Griffins games I've been to this year while I've been shunned to the west side of the because of college, he's playing pretty well. It should be an interesting weekend to say the least.. He is here because we have players on the IR and can call him up and he fits under the cap
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) I guess we'll see how Howard plays.. but from what people have told me, I'm expecting next to nothing from him. Oh well. EDIT: I just read the article. Giving Ozzie the 10 days doesn't sound like a slap in the face to me.. just extra time to work with the coach. Best of luck to both Howard and Oz. We'll see how they both play after this break. Edited February 20, 2009 by Ms_Hockey

cnot19 191 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Damn would have like to see him play too bad I cant watch the game Keeping expectations low so I wont be dissapointed
bellarina 1 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 They need to get his mind straightened out, like they did with Cool Hand Luke. Hopefully, he'll come back feeling like he has something to prove. That's when he's always played his best for us. So far this season he's felt like he's on a high throne somewhere where no one can do anything to him. No more immunity for that Cup win. Couldn't agree more with this.
hallelujahlogic 1 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 How can they play Maltby instead of Leino.. that's 100% due to loyalty and wanting maltby to reach 1000games asap for whatever reason... classy but not the best for the team yep. i'm pretty freaking disappointed, but i guess what the heck else were they gonna do? sit malts for the rest of the season? it's a bummer, because leino is obviously the superior player but...he'll get his time, soon enough. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 With regards to Maltby/Leino: It's fine. Mike's stated intentions are to keep everyone fresh down the stretch, a worthwhile endeavor.
Mors 201 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Ugh, I thought we had a good thing going with Maltby sitting...loyalty is a ***** I guess.
WingsZR2 1 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I like it, as much as I love Ozzie it needs to happen. J-Ho show us what you got, Ozzie get your head our of your ass.
Guest micah Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Is this sarcasm? I really wish Maltby would continue to sit for the time being. I just don't find him to be effective anymore and Leino has been stellar. That being said, a rotation makes sense to keep everyone fresh. No. Dammit, I read it wrong. Now I'm sad. I wish Maltby would sit in the pressbox. Actually, I wish he would be released or sent down.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Good move. Osgood has been awful this season. I'm excited to see what Howard can do on Saturday.
tingnoel 4 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 He is here because we have players on the IR and can call him up and he fits under the cap I meant a goalie injury. I was hoping we would have the Osgood from the 2008 playoffs this season.
Kira 451 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 About time Ozzie got a rude awakening. Christ, even Dom didn't play this bad last season, and he got raked over the coals constantly. Howie can't do any worse, can he?
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Surprised this didn't happen earlier, what with the cap space and all. Gotta give the frontrunner for backup (possible future) goalie next season some NHL playing time if you've got the space.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I meant a goalie injury. I was hoping we would have the Osgood from the 2008 playoffs this season. wernt we all? unfortunately, he's been worse than Dan Cloutier

wmubronco420 25 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 as a big ozzy supporter, id say this is probably the best thing for him. I look forward to ihm coming back to his form from last year with a chip on his shoulder. Just the way ozzy plays his best
h2obury 6 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I like Osgood but I think this is the right move it will either light a fire in Ozzie and he will get it together or it solidifies Conklin as the starter It also gives Howard a shot as well which I am excited to see hopefully he will get a start or two
Carman 387 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Well, let's hope this is good for two reasons. 1. Howard can impress us and finally show us that he could reach his potential. 2. We can get Osgood on track for the playoffs.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Good move. I guess those 3 straight starts he had was the final test, and he failed miserably to say the least. Hopefully he'll be able to find his game again during his time off. I'd personally like to see Larsson, but I guess Howard is first in line so to say. Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I am for whatever gives Ozzie that edge that gets him pissed off and ready to go. If that's what this will do, then so be it.
Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted February 20, 2009 I'm in favor of both moves. Let's see if Osgood can get it together. Conks has been solid, his last game he only let two by him. This is what the wings need, the ability to win when only scoring 3 or 4 goals. Osgood has only been able to win when the wings score 4+ goals. I like Osgood, but we've got to do what's best for the team. As for Maltby, he's one of the best penalty killers in the league. He's a Red Wing to the core, but it's time for youth to step up. Lieno is MUCH better 5 on 5 and we need a better 4th line.
