I said it before and was chastised for it, but Osgood has played well when in the role of backup and needing to prove himself. It was no different in the 90s, no different this decade either. He simply is too smug as a starter and needs a kick in the ass to keep his game up. Not everyone needs this, but clearly Osgood does. At least they didn't throw him off the team and will give him some time to deal with his problems. You don't just throw a goalie that helped you in the cup last season out just because he's having an off year. Good for management for mixing a kick in the ass with loyalty.

Uh....one other thing I'd like to add here. I obviously missed it both times you said it. I think there was a long period when he was fine as the starter, and starter or no, I think it's a denial thing more than a smug thing. At any rate it's a good thing the Wings' staff has done.

let the hair pulling and mud wrestling begin. I always like when a whiny ***** calls another a whiny *****. good humor... keep it up.

Funny you should bring that up. I have yet to see any of the females on this board get into the hissy-like clawing and screeching tantrums some of the guys have gotten into.

Go frickin' figure, huh.

It is probably a very good thing all around, and well-handled by the Wings brass, as usual. it was pretty obvious (I think) that Ozzie wasn't going to show up next game and be OK again.

I don't know that smugness is involved with Ozzie, but perhaps there is a bit of buying into one's own press a little too much? It would be easy to do, I don't care who you are.

Interesting "chemistry experiment" we have going here.

No wayyyyy.

The Red Wings system has been one of loyalty for the longest time. There's no way they'd give away one of their veteran players. They might - but I just don't see that happened. It's not how the organization works.

Listen the loyalty system is a myth in Detroit,,one the greatest goaltenders in Detroit history, or hockey history was shipped out of this town after winning succesive Cups. His name Sawchuk dumped to last place Boston Bruins in those days. And Sawchuk would have given his left arm for this organization. Players were mere props they even had to pay their own moving exspenses. Todays stars compared to that era are treated like Queens in the buisness of hockey. With Salary caps free agency there is a modicum of loyaty that exists nowadays. So be it trade trade trade the assets that can, yield new possibilties for the Cup, resting on past laurels get you to crying in your beer. Hey Im happy Stevie Y will be a Wing forever and ever; like Lindstom to follow; but they are the exceptions not everyone can occupy that symbolic role in an organization. That's why they are held in esteem to inspire future talent. Look to the terrible times of the seveties in Detroit the team seeemed to be gutted every second month.Remember this was the organization that broke up the Howe Delvecchio Mahovlich the number 3 top scoring line in the league. History does have its uses for the future. Holmstrom, Franzen anybody?

I actually expect Jimmy to play pretty well tomorrow. Here are his NHL stats:

05-06: 4 GP 1 W-2 L-0 T 2.99 GA 0.904 SV%

Those games were during his first pro season.

07-08: 4 GP 0 W-2 L-0 T 2.13 GA 0.926 SV%

He played really well last year, but the D in front of him played poorly.

He's been hot lately in GR, so I think we'll see a good game from him tomorrow.

Obviously when discussing Detroit and loyalty people are referring to the Ilitch era. Jack Adams was one mean SOB but that was 50 years ago.

Is this sarcasm?

I really wish Maltby would continue to sit for the time being. I just don't find him to be effective anymore and Leino has been stellar. That being said, a rotation makes sense to keep everyone fresh.

As evidenced in this and in previous posts.... you have absoloutly horrible comprehension skills, but so does the person who you quoted..

How can they play Maltby instead of Leino.. that's 100% due to loyalty and wanting maltby to reach 1000games asap for whatever reason... classy but not the best for the team

maybe malts is thinking about hanging up after the season.

I see, so if we'd played Howard in Detroit this season he's be a playoff goaltender for an elite team and instead we wasted his season in Grand Rapids and now he's just a minor leaguer. I mean playing a kid in Grand Rapids to grow him into an NHL goalie and bringing him to the NHL slowly is such a waste of time and talent. I'll file this in the black can under my desk marked crapola and save it for all due future reference.

I always love the argument that when our kids come up they play well is PROOF they were always ready for the NHL and we were buffoons to have wasted all that time playing them in the minors. Silly me, I always thought it was solid proof we did a great job developing them in the minors and honing their skills to be ready to play in the NHL. It turns out they ALWAYS WERE and we're STUPID!!!! Wow, re-reading what I just wrote I realize what a moron I was for thinking that!!!!

Note from Kaz, I misunderstood this quote, addressed below.

There was more than a momentary lapse of reason going on with management and the goaltending situation. But I've held the view all along their were trying to do goaltending on the cheap so they could sign the big names which their still doing. But hey now doubt has really set in about Osgood; finally better late than never. A few posts back I said they should of brought up their goaltending prospects earlier. Now they are weeks before the deadline, if it doesn't pan out moves are in the works as they should be . Holland knows the writtings on the wall if we get bounced in the first round because he neglected our weakest link goaltending; come on its obvious!

Dude, you're completely missing the theme, you're supposed to hysterically overrreact! This is completely measured and reasonable, in short, you've LOST it! We were stupid for not playing Conklin and bringing up Howard and we didn't trade for another goaltender soon enough and we tied up our cap and Ozzie's done and he's been killing us all season and now we're completely and utterly SCREWED!!!!!

If you need any more tips on appropriate complete and utter lack of perspective let me know and I'll help you out again...

I'm growing weary of Osgood he is not the team never was=the team needs someone to steal a game from time to time,if you don't have that then by hook or croook go get it trade trade trade. Its simple once you get away from this myth of the loyalty concept.

The Red Wings have demonstrated their loyalty to their players for many years now, and players have returned the favor. We're not trading Ozzie. Or Maltby. Or Homer.

Is anyone else praying to God that JH gets a SO?

Right, so what happens if Howard plays out of his skull over the next while? Imagine the forum wars if that happens if you though it was bad now. The idea makes me giggle.

When I read that Ozzie had recently ascribed his piss poor play to focussing on his individual achievements, I thought "what a tool..." Most guys will go out of their way to say they don't do that. Sounds like a good thing this is happening.

Are you serious? Put the guy on Waivers & pick up Backstrom for the playoffs and review what happens next year at the end of season.

Just FYI, NO GOALIE has this done to them. It's something that the Habs just did the same thing to Kovalev. They are just doing this so they can say "well we tried" and throw him to the wolves. Which is where he should be thrown, but...
