Hate to say it...sick Marty Turco save

He wasn't even looking when the guy shot it, Turks knew he would probably be going high, lifted his leg, made the save. Goaltending is always mixed luck and skill, there's no point debating it--he stopped it. The real question I expected from posters of this board was, "Could he have made a perfect butterfly slide in perfect position to make this save rather than pointlessly being so overly flashy I wish he played for my team?"

That's not a save.

A save is a concious effort to keep the puck out of the net.

His left leg went up as he was going down and the puck hit his pad. That's what happened.

QFT.

You wanna see Turco make some saves... game 6 vs. San Jose last year.

If this is the case, then I think only about 30% of Hasek's career saves were actual "saves"

I'd say it was a save. His left leg came up off of the ice, he lifted it to attempt to make the save. Yeah, he obviously got lucky, but the idea for him was there, and it worked.

Turco is a very good goalie, at times. That was fun to watch, but I bet he would be the first to tell you that he was lucky and just as surprised as anyone else.

And anyone who thinks Hasek got where he did in his career because he was lucky is delusional. He knew exactly what he was doing. It just looked weird because no one else could do it, then or now.

Not true, because those saves were actually Hasek way of a conscious effort to keep the puck out of the net.

And don't tell me you didn't know that... come on.

So glad there are still some fans here (including you and Toby) who actually understand that, amongst other obvious things about our players.

Turco is no Hasek, except in his wildest dreams.

Hasek was great, no doubt, but to think he always knew exactly what he was doing and wasn't at all lucky is pretty far fetched. I'm not saying that he was anymore lucky than any other goalie, but there was certainly some luck in there (a la saves like we just saw Turco make).....the same luck that any other goalie gets now and then.
