Trade Deadline

I would think the Redwings if they wanted to get a goalie would try to get: Toskala, Roloson, or Raycroft ( if he's available). But, thats if the redwings need a goalie =P

Those names make you feel much more confident in Ozzy! :D Hell- I'd take Conklin over anyone there aside from Roloson (who was steller for the Oil in their run to the finals).

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Biron? He played amazingly well against the Pens last year and it looks like the Flyers are fully enamored with NittyBigMac.

Come on now. All three of those goalies are horrible. There are only two on the list I could get excited about.

1. Backstrom

2. Craig Anderson

I'll take Roloson's play in the playoffs a few seasons ago over Anderson's unknown playoff performance anyday.

Well , Since Conklin is have a Career year...maybe this is his year!

Honestly Im fine with the goalies we have now IF the Wings were to Trade for a goalie i keep hearing Mike Smith, But he's injured and due to make 2.2 mill next year ...... Not a good idea (CAP) unless you send Flip that way....

Like i said He's Injured and they are not gonna go after a guy with Post Con Syndrome.

No Moves for goaltenders...

(Id like to see Neil here too)

I know that Ozzy has been really off his game this year - from the first game, but there is no way they are gonna make any goalie changes. Conk has shown he can be a starter and Howard needs a few more games to see what he is capable of. Cap is too tight and they are working too hard on Hossa, Franzen, & Hudler. If any deals are to be made before deadline, it will be trading Ericsson from GR and getting a D man for the playoffs that can fit into the cap.

I don't believe there will be any move for a goalie. I think Conklin will continue to gain confidence and continue to play better. I don't believe Osgood's funk can last for ever, I think he will get into some sort of a positive groove and between Conks and Osgood we will be fine. Just to be safe I am hoping we see Howard or Larsson in a few more games, you never know. The whole team will pick it up come play off time and goalie's will respond as well.

If the wings go for a goalie...they will just be duct taping the issue... while duct tape fixes almost all it eventually drys up and starts to leak.

Every goalie on our team has been hung out to dry and on each of those occasions have given up a ton of goals... oh well, it happens you can't win/dominate them all.

we will be fine in the playoffs

No Matter What....No Matter What.. What ever happens, It will be Hollands fault, He's in a no win situation as far as the fans go...

Im glad my name is not Ken Holland right now........

He's got a lot of things to take care of and most fans will be Anti-Holland when the crap hits the fan. I hope it won't be that way but it will

I really doubt fans will be mad at Holland! I don't know how fans could be upset with a guy that doesn't do what the fans always want him to do. Rather he does what he feels is best for the team today as well as a year from today. You can't help but realize that this man has consistently built good if not great hockeys teams for the fans of this organization.

If and when s*** starts to hit the fan and the team turns to s***. I will be there clapping and saying "it was good while it lasted, thank you".

From Ken Holland's point of view...

You have the guy who won you the Stanley Cup LAST YEAR on your roster. He has 3 rings (one as a backup to Vernon) and (debatable) Hall of Fame stats. Veteran with lots of playoff experience. He is making under 2 million a year and your cap is stretched to the max. You have several free agents to sign. You also have another guy who is playing well but is not playoff-tested, and fits right where you need him to under that cap.

You are not going to get another goaltender. Figuring out WHY your goalie is not playing like last year is the key, and it sounds like this 10 days off is an attempt to do just that. Wait it out.

Agreed, no way we go after a goalie, too many chemistry problems and we would have to blow up major portions of the team either this season with the team or with guys that we couldn't sign in the off season. I sure don't see any way we go after a goalie that we will have to give a fair bit up to get, who has never played a game with this team or in this system (with only 22 games left in the season) and has only played 11 playoff games in his career. There is no way that Kenny says, "Hey we have the 3rd best record in the league, lets trade away talent or future for a goalie who will have almost no time to get to know our team or system, has never proven himself in the playoffs, has never had the pressure of coming into the defending Cup champions locker room and and playing the "savior" (which we don't really need) for a team and city that is notoriously hard on a goalie. What they heck its a huge gamble but maybe it will work out." There is no way that he does this - this is (in my opinion) something that you try on NHL 2009 but not in real life and not something that any GM in Holland's position would ever even consider doing. You're going to tell Conks thanks for all the wins and shutouts this year but were going to go with a different unproven guy who hasn't played with the team or Ozzy (yeah I know he hasn't been good this year) I know you have 3 Cups and tons of playoff experience but I just wanted to make a trade.

The only thing that I think we might get is a veteran 4th line grit guy (like has been discussed in numerous threads).

I think the team thing might be a decent point, but our system? A system for the goalie is "Stop the puck." It's not like he'll have to learn offensive zone positioning.

I guess the Red Wing's system for a goalie would be to get used to watching things in the offensive zone then be ready to get about 10 shots in a minute when our 4th line is on the ice.

It all depends on how Ozzie plays in his next two games or so. If he still stinks, then we'll be dealing.

No we wont. Holland has said that there will be no moves for a goalie at the deadline. There is no cap space to get anyone worth a darn. Its either Ozzie or Conkblock. Why do these threads keep coming up?

I am pretty sure that we will stand pat on the goalie situation we have and hope for the best, but if we do get someone, i am going with Cujo, no need to sign him next year so it won't affect our cap, plus the guy has proven playoff experience...although that was seasons ago and age has no doubt caught up with him, but i can pretty much guarantee he has the hunger to win a cup.

but like i said i do not believe we will get any golaie by the deadline

While he doesn't really need to learn the offensive zone positioning the different defensive schemes and who play them is very important to a goalie. For example, think of both Cujo and Hasek - both great goalies before they came to the Red Wings, both did not play near as well initially when they got here. Hasek adapted to playing for the Wings but Cujo never really did. It is very different facing 23-25 shots per game and facing 30-32 shots per game. The Wings are a puck possession team and thus control the puck the majority of the time during a game. Some goalies cannot play well or take a while to adjust to not seeing a shot for 4-5 minute stretches and don't play as well if they don't get in the groove (and stay in the groove) by making fairly continuous saves. Also, because the Wings are such a good team they don't need their goalie to regularly save them or carry the team some goalies (such as Cujo) seem to really struggle on a team where they aren't required, expected, or able to be brilliant night in and night out.

Im not sure about getting a goalie. The main issue is cap space. Which means we would have to get a rental player, and rental players just arent worth the cost. Look at what Pittsburgh gave up for Hossa and Nashville for Forsberg. We wouldnt be able to keep him. Some conditions draft picks would be the best option but we would more than likely lose those picks. Honestly, who could we get that is a sure thing for a nice price? For better or for worse I think we are sticking with our goaltenders. Kenny might work some magic for a goaltender but how much would that cost us in other areas? We still have depth in our lines which is nice, and hopefully Osgood will step it up. I think his break should have been longer to retool and have Howard get more NHL time. Come next season he is our future or he is gone.
