Gnredwing 10 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 If Osgood continues to struggle do you think the Wings would have Conklin start the playoffs. Or do you think they will give Ozzy the benefit of the doubt and let him start, since he was so great last year and he has plenty of playoff experience? eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 If Osgood comes back from his hiatus as the Osgood of 2007-08, it's Osgood all the way and the Wings will probably win the Cup. The Wings have said they are going to rotate goalies for the rest of the year; I think the goalie who plays better from now until the playoffs starts the playoffs, with Osgood having the tiebreaker from experience and past history, meaning if Conklin doesn't SIGNIFICANTLY outplay Osgood from now to the playoffs then Osgood is the playoff goalie. Conklin will most likely start the playoffs wearing a ball cap and keeping track of face-off wins.

Icesurfer 75 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 I can't believe that people actually think Osgood is just going to "flip a switch on" and all of a sudden become a decent playoff goalie. You really must be kidding. He will play in ONLY 11 more games before the playoffs start. He hasn't even had ONE game this whole year that I would consider to be of a playoff quality performance. He has NO shutouts and I think only about 4 games where he allowed only one goal. Everyone knows that it is the hot goalie who is capable of stealing a win and shutting down opponents completely who eventually will win the cup. Osgood is NO WHERE near such a performance. All you Osgood supporters continue to hold on to your hope because that is all you will have. And if you are depending on HOPE you are in trouble!!!! If Osgood starts he will last 2 games into the playoffs and the Wings will exit in the first round.

The team is going to be rotating the goalies roughly 50/50 right now. Too early to tell...
Kevvie 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 Yep, too early. I think the Great Oz will have to pull out 6 or 7 wins in his remaining 11 games to get the nod for the first round. Crap, who am I trying to kid? Osgood will start, drop the first game and then pull some wins out of his ass.
Inultus 12 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 From the horse's mouth: "Neither Holland nor Babcock would label Osgood the starter for Detroit's playoff run. That will be determined by his performance when he gets back into the lineup."

So did you just become a wings fan after Lids lifted the cup cause it was the cool thing to do? Cause you missed something amazing last playoff run first round.... just sayin'
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted February 25, 2009 Given that Hasek struggled last season and still got the starters job in the playoffs, Ozzie will have to really suck, even more than he has to this point, to lose the #1 spot. I'd start Conklin though. I'd call Conklin our #1 right now. Being relegated to back-up seems to be the only thing that gets Osgood interested in playing well.
