Chelios lays into Lemiuex

"Obviously, he (ticked) someone off last week when he got pummeled (by Edmonton rookie Theo Peckham),'' Chelios said. "He still managed to keep his mask (visor) on, what a surprise. If it's still in him at his age to do that, that's why they got him.''

Chelios said Lemieux not only wears on the opposition, but also on teammates.

"Whether it was him cheating at cards or (ticking) someone off,'' Chelios said. "But he was young, he'll be the first to admit he got under people's skin on other teams as well as his own team, coaches and everybody. Not the most pleasant guy to be around, but he had a big heart. I talked to him over the past few years. I like him a lot more than I did back then.''

Of course, Chelios calling someone out over their fighting style - pot, meet kettle.

I bet if Cheli finds Lepuke in his bar he'll throw scalding hot chili in his eyes, break a beer bottle over his head, find a broom/stick/pool cue and slash him in the leg. That'll teach the bastard to fight with a visor.

Pretty sure Chelios has close to (if not more than) twice the fighting majors Lemieux has in his career.

And what a fight card it is - Luc Robitaille, Mark Recchi, Teemu Selanne.......

They were cheap shots when he played for Montreal and Chicago. With Detroit it's just old time hockey. :D

As for La Phew, that's old history. Mac took care of the hit on Draper. Untill he fugs up again he's got a clean slate. Now that doesn't mean I wouldn't keep an eye on him.

I dislike Claude as much as the next guy, but Chelios has no business calling anyone out for their fighting. He was one of the most weasely, despicable pricks in the league until he got old. Loved to run his mouth, take liberties with star players, then leave Ciccone or Steve Smith to cover his ass when the enforcers came calling. Maybe not as slimy or conniving as Lemieux was, but just as dishonorable when it comes to fighting.

i know it's fun to think everyone hates each other as much irl as they do on the ice when the adrenaline is pumpin' and emotions are riding high but...this article didn't really make it sound like cheli was "laying into him".

that being said, i hope that turtle gets pounded tonight. i don't even care who does it. huds can jump on his back from behind and wrestle him to the ground for all i care. haha somehow i will never get tired of watching that man bleed.

Yes he does. He wants to call someone out for fighting with a visor on, he has all the rights to.

baseball swing right to this fuc*ers teeth.

edit-swearing

I'm with you, cept that I would cross check the fuc*ers ribs or stick my stick blade in his skate and yank (tear him a new one).

I hate that MoFo

I would have loved to go against him in Pros Vs Joes.

Gotta say I find it pretty amusing to see all of the animosity towards a 42 year old has been. I hope that this might actually make for some good violence tonight.

I am generally ambivilant to the guy, as I don't see that he adds that much to my team, but if he can get under the Wings players skins as much as he has their fans, then he is worth every penny he is making tonight.

Go turtle!
