MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 What happened? I don't have TSN running right now. Duthie was pestering Burke about which players he was interested in acquiring, and Burke nearly let the expletives fly.
shadow47 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) Pierre just said Hasek faked all his groin pulls. That seems like a viable and reasonable assertion. I think Pierre can expect a ripped shirt and a choking with his own tie in 3...2...1...oh god. Edited March 4, 2009 by shadow47

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Wow, what a boring trade deadline. Last year was no different up until this point. Things went crazy after 12:00 ET and especially with 1 hour remaining.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Last year was no different up until this point. Things went crazy after 12:00 ET and especially with 1 hour remaining. Yeah, it got so hectic that they were breaking trades until 4:30 or so.
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Nice to see Buffalo re-sign Connolly after re-signing Miller earlier in the year. They've had a tough go of it recently with retaining players.
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Last year was no different up until this point. Things went crazy after 12:00 ET and especially with 1 hour remaining. Yeah that last hour was crazy. We didn't even know about a few deals until a little while after 3 IIRC.
Statiklullaby87 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Please forgive my ignorance but is there a possibility that holland trades some of our baggage players(sammy, flip, lils, lebda) to make room for the young'uns that show promise (ericcson, leino, helm abdelkader) for the playoffs? LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Tim Connolly for $4.5M per year? Goodbye Hudler AND Franzen! Connoly has only scored 15 goals ONCE in his career!!!! What does that make our guys worth?
RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 You know, I can't help but think that Mark Recchi could really help the Wings. I think that he's a guy who provides scoring depth if a guy like Hossa went down. I'd love to see Recchi, Laperriere, and a depth defenseman.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Yeah, it got so hectic that they were breaking trades until 4:30 or so. Exactly....with all the trades that came in last minute it took the league an hour or two to accept and report all of them.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Please forgive my ignorance but is there a possibility that holland trades some of our baggage players(sammy, flip, lils, lebda) to make room for the young'uns that show promise (ericcson, leino, helm abdelkader) for the playoffs? I don't think he'd trade away players for picks. I think Holland would like to have as many players on the roster as possible come playoffs, so we have options. And obviously trading for players isn't going to clear roster spots. At most expect one player to be traded. More likely is he'll sign somebody without trading if he can. I expect a 3rd or 4th liner. It hardly seems like we need a player anymore, for the past week or so, but we can't ignore the problem we were having and I'd rather we take a chance. If it doesn't work we have a plethora of players we know DO work.

No. This is a team that won the cup a year ago with those players and are sitting #2 in the West.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Tim Connolly for $4.5M per year? Goodbye Hudler AND Franzen! Connoly has only scored 15 goals ONCE in his career!!!! What does that make our guys worth? Keep in mind the Wings are able keep/obtain players for less than their market value on a consistent basis. I'm not saying Kenny will be able to keep both, but I would bet he'll find a way to keep one of the two.
Vladifan 680 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 You can tell Pierre Mcguire (or whatever) thinks he's better than everybody there... You can't tell P. McGuire anything. He has very strong opinions. Until of course, he sees the replay.
shadow47 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) Connolly is a playmaker. Spezza-style. Joe Thornton doesn't exactly score a bunch of goals either. 4.5 million isn't outrageous for a guy who's been in the organization awhile (though he IS injury prone) and should lead the offense. from wikipedia: Though Connolly missed only 3 regular season games total in his first 4 seasons in the league, he has since been plagued by injuries. He missed the entire 2003-2004 season with concussion issues, missed a significant portion of the 2005-06 season, 80 games of the 2006-07 season, 34 games in 2007-08, and has already sat out for a handful of games during the 2008-09 season, due to various ailments. StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Yeah thats true...thats easy to forget given the ongoing defensive woes... They have. But it's not a personel thing it's a get your head out of your butt kinda thing so there isn't much they can do imo, especially with the cap. I like the idea of getting Neil for the 3rd or 4th line though to help get a little more grit.
